From the Principal … Welcome to Week 9 where the weather is becoming more pleasant and enjoyable, and the days are a little warmer. This week some of our students have started the Special Swimming Scheme program. This program allows students to learn to swim, refine and develop their swimming ability as well as learn a valuable life-saving skill. Thank you to the parents who took up this opportunity. I look forward to visiting our swimmers over the next two weeks. Last week I had the pleasure of attending my first whole school assembly. What a fantastic celebration of our school. It was wonderful to have all 600 students, the entire staff and our community being part of celebrating student achievement and sharing some of the things that make Governor the wonderful place it is. Congratulations to KCM and Miss Wallekers on a fantastic Lion King item. I was very impressed with kindergartens rhythm and moves!! Well done to our Stage 3 students on representing our school in such a wonderful manner whilst visiting Parliament House in Sydney. The students attended an excursion as part of their History unit ‘Australia as a Nation’. The students were able to see and experience first-hand some of the concepts they had been learning about in class. These experiences reinforce learning and provide valuable insight and real-life relevance. I was very proud of the students who attended – their behaviour, manners and interactions with the general public were outstanding, as always! Congratulations to Mrs Hoyle and Miss Wallekers on a fantastic job coordinating the K-2 Athletics Carnival last Wednesday. The day was thoroughly enjoyable and it was great to see our K-2 students enjoying the activities and races. These days take a lot of planning and preparation, not only by the organisers but my dedicated staff. To everyone involved last week - Thank You!! This week we have a P&C meeting on Friday morning commencing at 9am in the staffroom, I look forward to seeing many of our parents come along and hear what has been happening at Governor, as well as some exciting initiatives which will be taking place over the coming months. It was a nail biting finish to the football last Friday night, however, the Sharks are still alive in the finals!! Thank you to our Stage 3 students (Penrith supporters) who thought some of the staff (Cronulla supporters) needed tissues in preparation for the game. They came in very handy, and were of course used to wipe away the tears of joy!! Up, Up Cronulla!! Week 9 Term 3 18 September 2018

K- 2 Sports Carnival - Luckily we had a beautiful, sunny day for our carnival last Wednesday. Kindergarten, Year One and Year Two students had an enjoyable time. Congratulations to Supply for winning our 2018 Sports Carnival. The results were: Supply – 201 points, Scarborough – 173 points, Alexander — 145 points and Sirius – 142 points. Thank you to the parents that assisted with the sausage sizzle and to the families that came along to cheer on our students. Miss Wallekers and Mrs Hoyle Mufti Day: Fundraiser for Children’s Hospital - Thursday 20th September will be a 'come as you are' mufti day. This means that you can dress in an outfit that represents you. It could be your usual weekend attire, or maybe a uniform that you wear for one of your sporting activities. It may be your favourite jersey, your favourite colour, your favourite costume.

The Department of Social Justice students will come around to classes to collect your gold coin donations in the morning. All the funds raised will be donated to the Westmead Children's Hospital to help children your age who are sick and need life changing surgeries. Thank you. The Department of Social Justice.

Kindergarten Excursion to Calmsley Hill Farm – Tuesday 25 September 201 8 - Kindergarten are going on an excursion to Calmsley Hill Farm on Tuesday next week. The bus leaves at 9:00am from the school. Please arrive at school on time.

Remember your child needs to wear their Sport uniform on the day of the excursion. They will need to bring their recess, lunch and disposable drinks in a small backpack (NO PLASTIC BAGS). Please include a plastic rain poncho. Miss Wallekers Organising Teacher.

Safe, Respectful Learner Program - The focus rule for Weeks 9 and 10 is ‘Be Respectful, Cooperate – be a team player’. We can achieve more by working together with others. You can be part of a team for sport, work, school, community groups and so on. On your own, you can achieve a little but by cooperating with others you can achieve so much more. Discuss the importance of cooperation with your children. Values Education - The value for Weeks 9 and 10 is Citizenship/Democracy. When we are citizens of a country or members of a community we follow certain moral, legal and social ethics. Citizenship is the knowledge and skills of this role. A good citizen: • Understands and follows rules in the family, school and community • Treats others and the environment with respect and dignity • Is responsible, fair and courageous • Being patriotic, having civic pride

Deputy Principal’s Message

There were many exciting events that occurred last week. The remaining Stage Three classes (5KS, 5NS, 5/6HY and 6MA) attended their excursion to the NSW Parliament House and the Australian Museum. The students had an enjoyable day and were well behaved. Thank you to Mr Young who organised this valuable excursion for the Stage Three students and teachers.

On Tuesday 11th September, we held our third whole school Assembly. Mr Corcoran was able to attend this Assembly and was very impressed with our students’ behaviour. We were able to celebrate our new ‘Citizens of the Month’ and our Safe, Respectful students for Term Three. Congratulations to the students who received an award at the Assembly. Thank you to Miss Wallekers and KCW for their wonderful item and thank you to all the members of the community who were able to attend the Assembly. On Wednesday 12th September, the K-2 Athletics Carnival was held on the top oval. Despite the wind and warmer weather, all students had a fantastic day. They had the opportunity to compete in races, rotate to various physical activities, enjoy a delicious sausage sizzle, cheer on their team mates, play with their friends and spend some time with their family. Congratulations to all students who participated in the carnival and to Supply (green) who were the winning house. I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to Mrs Hoyle and Miss Wallekers who spend countless hours organising this event. The entire day ran smoothly because of their organisation and dedication to the event. I would also like to thank the members of the P and C who organised and ran the sausage sizzle for the K-2 Athletic Carnival. Many members of our community devoted their own time to support this fundraiser from counting money to cooking sausages on the day. All profits from the sausage sizzle support the innovative programs that our school provides.

Even though Term Three is coming to an end, there are plenty of events still happening this week and next week. Our school Parliament are holding a ‘Come As You Are’ mufti day on Thursday 20th September to raise money for the Children’s Hospital at Westmead, there will be a second hand uniform stall on Friday 21st September at 8:30am under the pavilion, the P and C will be holding a meeting on Friday 21st September at 9:00am in the staffroom (all members of the community are welcome to attend), Kindergarten are off to the Farm in Week 10, Special Swimming Scheme (Years 2-6) will continue this week and in Week 10, our School Parliament will be holding a Games Week (more information to come) and more!
