PMIEF'S 2015 YEAR IN REVIEW AND WHATYOU CAN LOOK FORWARD TO IN 2016Your contributions to PMIEF are doing good for people aroundthe world who might not otherwise have the opportunity toexperience the value of project management in their lives.Thank you!

In the last 12 months, support from individuals and businesseswithin our profession has helped PMIEF award grants totaling US$1.1 million to integrate project management into secondaryschools, increase nonprofits' capacities to deliver services andcreate solutions for disaster management challenges.

Here are some significant initiatives your support made possiblein 2015:

A grant to MBAResearch & Curriculum Center provided in-person project management training to 70 U.S. secondaryschool career and technical education (CTE) teachers. Nine project management modules were created in three of the 16career pathways (finance, marketing and business). The teachers reportedly loved their training and will continue to usethe modules even after the grant period is over.We launched our Disaster Management Grants Initiative (DMGI) to provide project management implementation supportand coaching to three nonprofit organizations supporting worldwide disaster relief. By the time this initiative is completein 2017, the American Red Cross, Cooperative for Assistance and Relief Everywhere (CARE) USA and Plan Internationalwill each have received 24 hours of project management training for 30 people in order to improve their disaster andhumanitarian relief efforts organization-wide.This year, more than 20,000 youths were impacted by project management training through grants, PMI chapters, participation by other educational entities and downloads from our online resource center. We expect the actual numberis much larger; this is based only on what we are able to measure.Since 2012, PMIEF has invested more than US $3 million in innovative grant-funding initiatives that, when completed, willhave reached more than 350,000 individuals in 28 countries on five continents.

None of this would have been possible if it weren't for donor contributions and an increasingly strategic focus by the PMIEFBoard.

"As PMIEF has grown and matured as an organization, we've become more strategic in identifying where we want to go. As aresult, 2015 was an outstanding year for reaching educators, youths and nonprofit organizations with project managementtools, resources and training. Looking ahead at 2016 and beyond, we have roadmaps in place that will help us get to the nextstep in our strategic plan to build upon our past successes and reach even more people with project management," says AllanMills, PMP, 2015 Chair, PMIEF Board of Directors.

Here is a taste of what's in store for 2016:

Given the programs currently in place or wrapping up in 2016, we estimate more than 50,000 youths will learn projectmanagement this year. The Foundation will continue to award grants that support teaching and learning worldwide, including new initiatives thatintegrate project management into science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) secondary school classes.PMIEF's first independent research project will include an evaluation of the MBAResearch & Curriculum Center grantmentioned above. The findings will inform revisions to the project modules, which will be presented later in the year.A significant investment has also been made for external evaluation of the DMGI grants this year. Results will beavailable in early 2017.Research findings mentioned above will inform future grant-making decisions related to our PM Knowledgeable Youth and

PM Capable nonprofits areas of focus and provide source material for white papers and conference presentations. We will expand our grants to support initiatives in alignment with our goal to create a PM Ready Workforce.PMIEF has assumed responsibility for the newly-designed 2016 Community Advancement Through Project ManagementAward to recognize the work being done to increase the capacities of nonprofit organizations. PMI chapters, individualproject managers and corporations/government agencies are eligible to apply. The deadline is 20 May 2016.

And this is just the beginning. "Every year we make giant leaps forward in the work we're doing, and the response to our offerof free resources, training and grants has been tremendous," says Jeannette Barr, Executive Director, PMIEF. That response hasyielded exponential growth in the numbers of people interested in learning project management each year. In youths alone, thethousands reached with project management training in 2015 is up from only hundreds as recently as 2012.

Our ability to grow and expand our reach is thanks to you. Through your gifts, we are witnessing the excitement in people —both youths and adults — as they discover new tools that transform how they approach everything they do. This is just one wayyou are extending your legacy as a professional well beyond the project management work you do every day. Thank you forsharing your valuable experience in meaningful ways that change people's lives.

Deji Ishmael, PMP®

DONOR SPOTLIGHT:

Deji Ishmael, PMP®, is the Managing Director of Afrissance, a Nigerian enterprise that helps othercompanies and nongovernmental organizations clarify their purposes and establish cultures ofexcellence.

He says he stumbled into project management as a profession many years ago when he transitionedfrom working as an IT professional to delivering projects. "I just loved the discipline of actually usingand engaging resources in a purposeful way to enable us to do much more with less," he says.

While living in the United Kingdom, he joined the UK PMI Chapter in 2005 and began volunteering withthe organization. He has volunteered with PMI and the PMI Educational Foundation ever since.

Deji first learned about PMIEF when he discovered the Foundation's work helping nonprofits andnongovernmental organizations effectively utilize project management in their operations and in reconstruction projectsfollowing natural disasters. "I thought, 'Wow! This is good stuff!'" he says.

That's when he made his first gift to PMIEF. He was inspired to give because he saw the Foundation stepping out to solve real-world problems that go beyond an individual project manager's day-to-day work. "I'm motivated by seeing that my profession iscontributing to society," he says.

Since then, Deji has become known for saying, "PMIEF is PMI's best kept secret." But it's a secret that he says needs to beshared more widely. Deji believes the good work of the Foundation needs more exposure, first to PMI chapters and members, but also to the rest of the world. "These are the things that give our profession good PR and make young people aspire to beproject managers."

As a current member of PMIEF's Engagement Committee, Deji is working to educate PMI communities about the Foundation andproviding guidance and connections to help members and chapters get involved. "PMIEF is helping to prepare the nextgeneration by teaching them about project management not as a technical discipline, not even as a career, but as a life skill. They find innovative ways to get people excited and competent at delivering projects, and that is something every PMI chapterin the world should be able to engage with," he says.

To anyone considering a first-time gift to PMIEF, Deji's advice is simple. "Which area of PMIEF's focus touches you? Find outmore, and support the program closest to your heart. So many chapters don't know they can actually give to the work of PMIEF.I think if they knew, you'd find more chapters and project managers willing to give, because the initiatives are far reaching."
