PhD study can be simultaneously the most rewarding and stressful experience of your life. Many students embarking on the PhD journey have only an inkling of what lies ahead.

But the best PhDs are those that finish. Before submitting your dissertation, you can improve your final project significantly by having an external professional review your work. Assessors and examiners are famously critical of poor writing, typographical errors and weak or unclear expression. You’ve made it this far, before handing over those years of research, strengthen the final product by requesting a detailed, quality review of your writing.

Michelle's PhD Success Story

Writing a thesis is a complex and challenging undertaking, requiring years of commitment and passion.

Here’s an experience from Michelle, a student at the end of her PhD journey:

“My dissertation is almost finished. I really wanted to make sure that it is well-written and ready for submission After spending so many years working on my dissertation, I really wanted to make sure that it is strong and goes through without a problem. Talking to my adviser, we decided that getting an independent review would be helpful prior to submission. They found a lot of things I'd missed, even after reading it many times.”

What are your goals for university?

"My original goal was to achieve a PhD by writing a dissertation that contributes to my field. I really wanted to do something insightful and original. Getting a degree and working in academia was also something that was motivating me. However, I decided to use Professor Write to make sure that I would submit with the best chances possible of success."

How challenging has it been for you?

"It is a challenge that cannot be underestimated. While many people tell you what it’s like, you cannot really understand what doing a PhD is like until you do it yourself. Writing, researching, and managing life all at the same time can be a struggle. Any help and advice is valuable."

What would you tell other students about Professor Write?

"It is great that I can access a service that is basically run by people who know the system. Having someone review my dissertation who finished a disseration themselves is extremely reassuring.

I would recommend Professor Write to other students. While some students are worried about handing their PhD over to an online service. The great thing about Professor Write is that the staff are really friendly and helpful. Once I submitted my thesis chapter (another great thing is that you don't have to submit the whole thesis, you can just submit chapter by chapter), I received a friendly email in return. The process was super simple. I had my own set-up page where I could see the progress of my review. It really helped me feel reassured."

What tips would you give to other PhD students doing a thesis?

"I’d say keep persisting, stay determined, and you’ll reach your goal. Never miss an opportunity to keep learning. Also, I'd say that you should use and access all the help you can get - free or paid - it doesn't matter. Accessing all the services you can will help you make it through the journey. It's stressful enough to do it all on your own, why make your life a little easier? Stay positive and focussed. You will make it!"
