Dear fellows, here is Psychological Test conducted in 2006.
I wrote all this ,right coming back from the psychological test for one of my friend who had to appear from Other centre.(this was lying idle u know , in my mail box . so I thought lets put it on forum.
Ours was Quetta centre and it was first in row.
There is lot of Good Stuff available here already in the forum , regarding what to wear , how to behave oneself and how to keep nerves strong and so on .So here I m just posting actual content we had to face in those two days..
First day (very hectic day indeed)
First, test
you will be handed over a booklet with one hundred questions and allotted time for completion of it is just 50 minutes:
it is as following:
first, there will be synonyms some 10 or 12 next will be opposite words...those too some ten or twelve. then relationship between the words...something like analogies....there were series...containing Abs format .. and numbers... then there were questions of series of order... keeping the words in order....for example..." head ,toe, thigh , knee, abdomen n etc..." now u have to put them in order...like toe, knee , thigh ,abdomen, head... " for all these question u have to only answer by selecting one of the options given.. there...
further... questions were related to such as.... " two days before was Sunday, after nine days
preceding the day before yesterday...tell what will be the day" this is simple example... so just do practice on such .Further , there were questions regarding to some statements...which had some sort of similar relationship which was to be found out....
there were many other things.. too .. but this is what I can recall at the moment. but I would like to recommend here the book...of intelligence test by Ibrahim bhatti.."all the questions that came in the test were of similar nature as given in that book.. so u may refer the book..
The second test contained some of the statements from which conclusion had to be drawn... 8 minutes were given for that and we had to complete some 12 questions..
example: 1.mr.aslam is pilot2. aslam is smoker3. aslam and ahmed are friends..4.saleem is a pilot.now u will have following options from where u have to draw conclusions.. for example:1.Mrs. aslam is smoker2. saleem is friend of aslam3. mrs. aslam is pilot4. pilots are smokers.5. some pilots are smokers.now u have to write in for no 1, 2 , 3 , 4 ,5 in whether , true, false or uncertain.this is simple example but in the test there were some complicated, only ur practice and quick response will enable u to have full credit.in the instructions it was emphasized that candidate who answers all will be given full credit..... so practice of all this is a must.
third test contained writing of autobiography of ur own........ where u have to relate events of importance in ur view... time allotted for this is ten minutes.
fourth test contains on some twenty or so question regarding to ur personality assessment.following are some that I can recall......time allotted for this is 25 minutes...: your personality traits... : fondest memories of your childhood.: major events of 2006 and their importance ...you have to write the importance of it in given space of one line.:your favorite books and why do u like them .. some four books.: your favorite personalities ( living any two.): the decisions u took independently.: decisions which were most difficult for u to take and their effects in ur life.: do u think corruption has become inevitable .? if yes why?: only merits of your own.: merits and demerits of your parents ( mother and father under separate heading): how much those qualities of your parents have an effect over ur personality.: the things which make u proud of your self.: what frustrate you... in your family ,... amongst your friend.. and in your working conditions....: have u attended any academy for preparation of css....(this is optional if u have attended you can write if not leave it writing N.A): how much expenses had u to bear while attending academy: and how much that have been of any use to u.: have you read holy Quran with meaning.
: do u read holy Quran regularly: do u offer prayer daily:
there were some other questions too that i cant recall...
Fifth test:sentence completion... for this allotted time will be some 8 minutes and sentences to be completed will be some 32 .. 15 seconds for each..you have to be spontaneous and quick.. many half sentences were given which connoted negative meaning and our task was to convert it into positive . this requires quickness of mind and much practice.. .... i had to even leave some of the sentences...
Sixth test:pattern figures.. and non- verbal type... perhaps some 36 questions were given which were to be answered in forty minutes.seventh test:there were some 160 questions which were to be answered in yes or no or uncertain. questions are very easy .what you have to do is to concentrate on the questions moving ahead... as, many questions are repeated but with different tone and words . time for this was (i don’t remember exactly) but i can tell you that u will be definitely wasting time if you read a sentence twice to understand it.... there fore be careful and comprehending the question ,carefully answer it positively.... some example i can present here.:
For instance: do u wake up tired in the morning.: do u get tired in the evening after being in the office all the day..: do u have any major surgery in the life..Like wise .. they are much easier ... but question is how quick u are .. and do not have conflicting thoughts.
Eighth test: again there was sentence completion test...
Finally picture story writing: you will be given a booklet containing four pages.... with picture on each.( picture is blurred) so careful observation will only give you idea what to write... you have to be fully imaginative and creative , this is what is instructed on the instruction page.time allotted for each story is ( five minutes)
there were some other things too but my memory now fails to work to recall them....
The Day second: ( group discussion, command task and interview with the psychologist.)
there are three psychologists in all including two female.
we were six in group. seated on the chairs with the curved table( semi - circle)opposite to the psychologists.. and in between psychologists and us...in front of us was chair where we had to command the task with our back to the psychologists.
Topics for the groups discussion were following:" humari kamzor economy kee wajah kamzor policy hai..."in urdu." discrimination and racism are on the rise" in English..
time allotted for each discussion was almost i suppose fifteen minutes ... but it seemed that psychologist rang the bell only when they had full idea of the candidates involved in the discussion....... almost two times each candidate got turn to speak out.... even some time two three candidates spoke three times..... Topics of command task:you will be handed over a task spreading over full page which includes description of the problem in detail.. and in the end in italics your designation is allotted to you....
in the instruction page given before start of the task is clearly mentioned in bold words that assigning designation is not necessary.... however some candidate entitle the designations to other candidate...you will have fifteen minutes to comprehend the task....
and you will have 8 minutes for delivering the decision when u actually starts the meeting.....you on ur own will be observer of the time and no body will ring a bell for you.... so keep limit of the time .....however some candidates crossed the limit but were allowed to continue... while as one of candidate was speaking uselessly and crossing the time that he was reminded of time limit and was cut short of his conclusion. But if one continued with solid arguments they were not stopped..
now some of the topics...:...candidate one :
one was designated as DCO who had to deal with the protest of workers ...workers were demanding the bonus....
candidate two:
: one was made chief secretary of Fata.. region .. and task for him was to how to control drug trafficking....candidate 3 : one other was made perhaps .. Dco... too.. in his district a industry was to be established now locally people were not skilled labors so labor force was to be hired from other provinces... this resented the local masses.. what would u do in that situation...
candidate 04::one was made foreign minister .. or i don’t exactly remember.. but the task was that some terrorists in Afghanistan have made hostages to Pakistanis... now how to secure their release... hostages demand change in our policy regarding Kashmir.... govt. has been negotiating with them for a long time but has failed to secure the release of the hostage’s... now what was to be done in that situation...
candidate 05: one was given designation of Director general of export promotion Bureau.... Epb was to hold a single-country exhibition in Japan with in two weeks.. now Japan’s custom officials demandedcustom duties in advance (full payment) while as Pakistan insists on paying the custom duties according to the value of goods sold at the exhibition. while the negotiations were yet going on that consignments of goods were landed in Japan...but the Japan yet was to demand the full payment of custom duties in advance.. given the situation... what immediate solution was to be found out...
Finally interview.. with the psychologists:
this was so simple .. they asked you the things.. you wrote in your first day of the test.....
ur family background.. favorite books..... such and such and the likes of that...
wish you best of luck .. .
well guys , this is enough food for thought for u . work out on this ….
And I would be back with suggestion especially on 2nd day of Psychological test .
1. only written qualifiers.
2. there are a number of criteria: your confidence, truthfulness, patience, communication skills, attentiveness etc etc are all the qualities they observe.
One word of advice to those going through debates in the psychological tests. "Never try to bulldoze someone".
As it is common in the ISSB where candidates try to get attention of the psychologist try to undermine others. It was my experience in psychological test in CSS that never do that.
one of candidate in our group tried to influence all by interupting, making them feel that they are not that good, starting the debate and concluding the debate. She was failed in the interview, as i later came to know.
So be friendly to your fellows. and dont try to pose urself some extraordinary genius.

Often candidates are asked a simple question during interview,"why do you want to join army/navy/airforce?"
Guys always get confused and give silly replies like
"Sir: To serve my nation"or"I have a passion to join armed forces.."
Although these answers might be your true motives for joining the armed forces and are very noble, but these answers are not appropriate when it comes to ISSB. You have to give a bit more mature and logical answer. Because these questions can result in counter questions like you can serve the nation many other ways...... or you have good marks you can become an engineer and serve the nation...etc
The rule of all the answers should be "give clear and complete answers which would satisfy all his queries."
Here are some of the answers which would be more appropriate:
Sir, its a good career, with a lot of grace, it can give me great opportunities to rise in ranks based on my abilities, it is a respectable profession,
Sir, its a dynamic job with lots of field work, not a desk job where you spend rest of your life.in other words its an exciting job, which which would polish my abilities and help me learn alot.
My answer was
"Sir i read a book about Airforce "pak fizaya ke dastan e shujaat" which had the compete story of the Halwara Mission of Sarfarz Rafique Shaeed, he is my inspiration for whom i am joining air force."
