So it was decided to study the efficiency and effectiveness of conversion of an additional PHC to an upgraded PHC.
Materials and methods
• The average data about the various services offered at the PHC were collected & analyzed for a period of five years after up gradation and was compared with the data for a period of five years before up gradation.
Results:
OP Strength : • 100 to 150
(Morning)• 1 to 5 (Evening) • 2 to 3 (Night)
OP Strength :• 250 to 300 (I Shift) • 70 to 100 (II Shift)• 10 to 15 (III Shift)

• Deliveries : 10-15 / Month
• In Patients : 10-15 / Month
• No Operation Theatre
• Deliveries : 45-55/Month
• In Patients : 230-250/Month
• Well Equipped Operation Theatre with average of 50 Tubectomies / Month

• NO LSCS
• No Minor Surgeries conducted
• Avg 5 LSCS/Months done in 2009 – 10
• Many Minor Surgeries like NSV, Lipoma , Sebaceous cyst , Ganglion, etc. on an average of 25 per month

• Minimal Basic Blood & urine Investigations
• With Semi Auto Analyzer, Investigations such as Blood Sugar, Serum Cholesterol, Serum Bilurubin, Hb, Serum Urea, creatinine, Gestational Diabetes Mellitus(GDM) for AN Mothers, Etc. in addition to basic investigations. On an average 50 people per day were tested by various investigations

Discussion: Previously, people were
largely dependent on the private practitioners for their health needs, particularly during evening and night hours.
But, after the improvement of the PHC, all their health needs were met without any cost.
All people around Morappur both rich and poor, are coming to the PHC for their health demands.
People go out only when referred by the PHC for tertiary care and major surgeries (like Kalaingar Insurance scheme).
Being 24x7 PHC, daily 70-100
people were treated in the evening OP and 10-15 people were treated during night hours for emergencies
œ Since, People are totally satisfied by the services of the PHC, the demand for private players have decreased.
œ During the last five years, two full
fledged nursing homes with OTs , two private labs, one X ray unit have closed their shutters. Many Quacks who were flourishing in near by villages took alternate jobs for their survival.
• Hence, Up gradation of Morappur PHC has greatly increased the availability of quality health care services .Also, Direct & Indirect costs towards medical and health care have been brought down to zero for the people of Morappur.
