The webinar entitled ‘PharmaSKILLuticals’: Drug Discovery and
Development-Career opportunities for Pharma graduates organized by SGT
College of Pharmacy - SGT University, Gurugram on 30 July 2021 under the

a) Introduction:
SGT College of Pharmacy organized yet another educational and inspirational
series of online expert talks entitled ‘# P𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐒𝐊𝐈𝐋𝐋𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐬 11a’: An online
skill-building experience with the theme of “Drug Discovery and Development-
Career opportunities for Pharma graduates” on 30 July 2021 at 11 am.
The event was attended by more than 200 students and faculty members,
nationwide. Prof. Dr. Arun Garg, Dean, School of medical & Allied Sciences, KR
Mangalam University, Gurugram inaugurated the webinar and Prof. Dr. Shyam S
Sharma, Professor, Dept. of Pharmacology & Toxicology, NIPER, Punjab was the
expert speaker and addressed the attendees about scope and opportunities in the
field of drug discovery.
The Webinar was convened by Prof. Sushma Chaturvedi, moderated by Dr.
Vaibhav Walia under the leadership of Prof. (Dr.) Vijay Bhalla, Dean, SGT COP.

b) Objective of the webinar:
The webinar was organized with the objective to impart knowledge about
scope and opportunities in the field of drug discovery. The webinar was
organized with the objective to impart knowledge on following
A) Phases of drug discovery & development
B) Computer Aided Drug Design
C) Pharmacovigilance
D) Pharmaceutical Industry and Artificial Intelligence
E) Regulatory aspects of drug discovery
F) Brief content of lecture-
Dr. Shyam S Sharma enlightened about the scope and opportunities in the
field of drug discovery. He stated in his talk Pharm D. students can be
involved in discovery of new molecules. He also talked about Computer
Aided Drug Design (CADD) and role of Artificial intelligence in drug
discovery. He also gave introduction and role of pharmacovigilance in the
field of drug discovery and told that even at graduation level, student can
work with MNC’s or government organizations involved in
pharmacovigilance. He also added that there are more than 100 educational
institutions working in the field of drug discovery namely, CDRI Lucknow,
NIPER and DRDO. He also threw light on some marketed drugs discovered
by international academic and research institutions. He also talked about
entrepreneurship and start up portals and procedures in the field of drug
discovery. He also said that around 106 startups are transforming health care
with Artificial intelligence. He briefly explained by a flowchart starting from
a graduate to Ph.D. having scope and career opportunities in the field of drug
discovery and depending on skills one can reach up to the higher positions
like Vice- presidents. He said that several NIPER students have joined US
FDA for motivation and said that SGT students can also opt for that and
work hard in that direction. He also told about the scope of Nanotechnology,
biotechnology derived products as well 3-D printing technology.
He said that drug discovery may cost approx. 1.2 billion dollar but in India it
might be cheaper. He concluded his talk with a statement that pharmacy is a
profession with wide opportunities starting from graduate level and with
more fascinating opportunities for Masters, Ph.Ds. and Postdocs.
