Jordan Berman is Vice-President, Global Corporate Affairs, Business Transformation and Strategic Planning at Apotex. In this role, he is responsible for developing and

communicating the organization’s narrative to a wide variety of stakeholders. His broad focus is to protect and strengthen the Apotex reputation, drive employee engagement and build alignment with the company strategy. Jordan is also accountable for the short and long term strategic planning for Apotex, as well as enterprise strategic initiatives focused on transforming the company’s operations.

Prior to Apotex, Jordan held dual corporate communications and strategy roles for 10 years. This included a Global Communications Leadership role supporting the Executive Chairman for Johnson & Johnson’s medical devices business, a $25 billion organization with 55,000 employees worldwide, as well as many years at AstraZeneca Canada as head of Business Planning & Risk Management.

Jordan holds a joint Master of Business Administration from the Kellogg School of Management and the Schulich School of Business and is a frequent speaker on a range of topics. He is the author of the forthcoming book, The Trust Trifecta: A Leader’s Guide to Gaining Trust.

Ajay Bhatia is a Commercial Leader with over 17 years of experience in the Canadian Pharmaceutical Industry. Ajay started his career at Johnson & Johnson in 2003 as a sales

representative and quickly progressed into roles of increasing responsibility. In 2009 Ajay joined GSK in their Leadership Development Program where he held various positions in the Commercial Division including Market Access, Marketing and Sales Management where he led a team of 8 individuals in the GTA.

In 2018 Ajay joined Astellas where he has led the successful launch of a new Oncology Franchise at the company. Ajay has experience in various therapeutic areas including Primary Care, Vaccines, Dermatology, Biologics and Oncology. He has won a number of Canadian and Global Industry awards and enjoys speaking at major Industry conferences.

Ajay holds an Hon. BSc from the University of Toronto and an MBA in Strategic Marketing from McMaster University.

Dr. Rafael Chiuzi is an experienced Organizational Behaviour Consultant with a strong, demonstrated capacity to leverage human capital for the benefit of organizations and people

alike. In his ten plus years of innovative practice in North & South America, Europe and the Middle East, he has been able to overcome widespread organizational challenges, and successfully implement lasting and meaningful change.

Rafael is also a published author and Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream, at the University of Toronto Mississauga where he teaches organizational behaviour and related courses.

Dorothy Czylyski has been working in healthcare & pharmaceutical marketing for 20 years.

With a Master of Science (MSc) in Clinical Pharmacology, she started her marketing communications career as a Medical Writer, moving into Account Management and Operations at healthcare agencies Medicus LifeBrands, SCRIPT, Klick Health, and most recently Fresh Squeezed Ideas, an Insights & Strategy firm where she was President.

In January 2019 Dorothy opened NFA Health in collaboration with No Fixed Address Inc., a fully integrated marketing agency. Dorothy has built an impressive portfolio over the course of her career, working with pharma clients across almost every therapeutic area, from insight & strategy development, regulatory expertise, sales rep materials, and Advisory Board meetings, to digital communications and media. Dorothy sits on the Board of Directors for the Ontario Pharmaceutical Marketing Association (OPMA) and is on multiple Advisory Committees at the Pharmaceutical Advertising Advisory Board (PAAB).

Dr. Colin Hall holds a Ph.D. in Enzymology / Biotechnology from McGill University. His areas of academic interest involved the purification, stabilization and

characterization of enzymes.

He began his professional career as a Lead Scientist and R & D Manager, tasked with the development of immuno-chromatographic assays for infectious diseases and human hormones. He has obtained Lead Auditor accreditations in ISO 13485 (medical devices), ISO 17025 (testing and calibration labs) and ISO 9001 (quality management).

In his current role of Director of Quality Assurance and Regulatory Affairs at Prollenium Medical Technologies, he coordinates the audit program and performs licensing activities, working with various agencies including Health Canada, FDA, European Notified Bodies, ANVISA and the TGA.

Dr. Jason Field is President & CEO of Life Sciences Ontario (LSO), the industry voice for the life sciences sector in Ontario. LSO is a member-driven organization that represents and

promotes the province’s vibrant and diverse life sciences sector. Jason obtained his PhD in Chemistry from the University of Massachusetts and his undergraduate degree from the University of Waterloo. Following graduate school, Jason returned to Ontario and worked in the pharmaceutical industry as a research scientist developing scalable manufacturing processes of active pharmaceutical ingredients. In 2007, he joined the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade (MEDT) where he led a team of senior advisors dedicated to growing Ontario’s life sciences and information and communication technologies (ICT) sectors.

Jason sits on several boards and committees including UofT’s faculty of medicine’s Translational Research Program, ReMAP, Research Canada’s policy engagement committee and most recently, BioTalent Canada. Jason is also the 2017 recipient of the Distinguished Alumni Award from the University of Waterloo.

Patricia joined Moderna at the end of 2020 as General Manager to set up and lead Moderna’s Canadian organization. Her responsibilities included leading the delivery of

Moderna’s COVID-19 pandemic response and building a strong pipeline of mRNA therapeutics and vaccines to create a solid footprint for the innovative biotechnology company in Canada. Patricia’s strength in building teams from the ground up has helped her build a highly skilled team to drive Moderna’s expansion in Canada.

Before joining Moderna, Patricia spent 12 years at GSK holding senior roles including Head of Vaccines Business and Head of Government Affairs and Market Access. With a drive to produce results and turn challenges into opportunities, Patricia successfully managed the creation of a public/private partnership between NEOMED and GSK, managed P&L, and led a corporate transformation initiative to embed a good governance mindset and a drive for performance.

Patricia’s professional path has taken her around the world, having lived in the US, Singapore and France, as well as London while she was a lawyer at McCarthy Tetrault. She holds an MBA from Montreal HEC and certifications in Strategic Negotiation from Harvard Business School and Leadership in Context from IMD.

Duncan holds a Bachelor’s of Science (Chemistry and Biochemistry), a Master’s of Science (Biochemistry) and a Master’s of Business Administration all from the

University of Toronto. In addition, he is a Project Management Professional (PMP). For over 30 years, he has primarily worked with inventors in the Life Sciences, especially University professors assisting them in bringing their ideas to market. He has worked in a major pharmaceutical company, as a venture capitalist and with the technology transfer teams at each of Ontario’s Universities. He has lectured on and taught business and biotechnology at the high school, college and university levels. Duncan also manages Hexagon Innovating, a consulting firm focused on the fuzzy front end of new product development, sourcing and in-licensing technology, performing technology and intellectual property reviews, doing market research and competitive intelligence, developing business models and strategy, partnering, fundraising, as well as project and portfolio management.

Duncan bringing his commercial and industry experience to the classroom as well as his interest in pedagogy, especially as it relates to critical thinking and experiential learning. Over the last 2+ years, he has taught courses at UofT, including in the Master of Biotechology, and undergraduate courses for the IMI Business Minor and Human Biology (St George).

Dr. Rav Kumar is Managing Director of the Centre for Medicinal Chemistry, University of Toronto Mississauga (UTM). He is also a strategic advisor to several start-up companies in the

pharmaceutical and life sciences industries.

Rav recently served as Managing Director of Apotex operations in India leading over 2,000 professionals in Pharmaceutical R&D, Manufacturing, Quality, Regulatory Affairs & Commercial Services. Dr. Kumar spent 25 years with GlaxoSmithKline in the UK, France and Canada at vice-president level leading R&D, Business Development and Commercial functions. He has been involved with development of numerous medicines and vaccines plus many successful business change initiatives. Dr. Kumar is passionate about growing Canadian Life Sciences and has been involved with many industry-academic-government collaborations. He conceived the $150M spinout of GSK’s vaccines R&D to create the Neomed Vaccines and Biologics Centre of Excellence in Montreal. For these contributions and numerous leadership roles on boards, non-profits and industry association work, he was recognized with the 2014 Award for Leadership in in Canadian Pharmaceutical Sciences.

Rav has a Pharmacy Degree and completed a PhD in Novel Drug Delivery at University of Bath in the UK.

Dr. Timothy Lee has a Ph.D. in Biochemical Engineering. He then did a post-doctoral fellowship and eventually become a senior scientist at SANOFI where he was involved

in the optimization of biologics processes to improve product yield.

His area of expertise include bacterial and mammalian cell culture fermentation, primary protein recovery and column chromatography. Dr. Lee has also worked as a biopharmaceutical consultant for the NIH, DARPA and Department of Defense (DoD) on government funded projects.

He then moved to Allergan, California where he served as Director of Research and Development formulating Botox for different medical indications such as Osteoarthritis, reticular back pain and migraine.

He is currently the Director of R&D at Prollenium Medical Technologies working on new Hyaluronic Acid formulations and bead technologies to bring the dermal products to market. He has also published several patents & well established peer-reviewed journals and presented extensively globally over the last several years, outlining the work performed in the industry.

Ryan W. Lock is Director, Federal Affairs and Public Policy for GSK Canada. Leading a team within GSK’s Government Affairs and Market Access department, Ryan is

responsible for developing GSK policy positions on market access and implementing evidence-driven national advocacy campaigns. Ryan is also responsible for GSK’s publicly-tendered vaccines portfolio, which includes managing relationships with the Public Health Agency of Canada and provincial public health departments.

Ryan has extensive policy experience in both industry and government. Before joining GSK in February 2016, Ryan was a member of the Ontario Public Service for 16 years. His varied roles at the Ministry of Research and Innovation, the Ministry of Consumer and Business Services; and the Ministry of Economic Development. He helped shape and inform Ontario’s Bill 160 health transparency legislation. In addition to this, Ryan led the development of policies, programs, and marketing initiatives to help reinforce Ontario’s position as a Top Five life sciences cluster internationally.

Ryan has a Master’s in Public Administration from the University of Western Ontario, and a Bachelor of Arts (Hons.), Political Science and French (minor) from Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo, Ontario.

Dr. Leigh Revers has more than 15 years of experience working in the life sciences sector, both in academia and industry.

Trained as a chemist and molecular biologist in the Dyson Perrins Laboratory, he came to Canada in 1996 as the recipient of a Leverhulme Scholarship to work with Prof. Harry Schachter on developmental enzymes involved in human diseases at Toronto’s Hospital for Sick Children. His research interests in complex carbohydrates as mediators of events at the cell-surface led to his interest in cancer. He joined Dr Jean Gariépy’s research team in 1999 to work on novel toxins capable of exploiting cancer-related carbohydrate signals. A long-held interest in entrepreneurship led in 2000 to his becoming a co-founder of Molecular Templates Inc. (MTI), an private biotech company focussed on the development of novel toxin-based cancer therapeutics.

In May 2006, he was appointed Assistant Director with the MBiotech Programme at the University of Toronto. In 2007, Dr. Revers co-founded a consulting practice, AdamsRevers, which provides specialist scientific and financial services to SMEs in the life sciences. Dr. Revers holds Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctoral degrees in Physical Sciences from University of Oxford.

Dr. Amyn Sayani is currently the Director, Medical Evidence at AstraZeneca Canada, where he is accountable for all real-world evidence, outcomes research studies,

and externally sponsored research across multiple therapy areas.

Amyn joined AstraZeneca in March 2021 after 20 years at GlaxoSmithKline and the last two years at a medical cannabis company as Vice President, R&D. Amyn has served in various roles of increasing responsibility across the drug development and commercialization continuum, including product development, regulatory and medical affairs, health economics and outcomes research, and real-world evidence, and market access. In his most recent role at GSK, Amyn led the development and implementation of GSK’s RWE strategy through broad partnerships across public, private and academic stakeholders. He has authored numerous publications and patents and has led numerous projects to optimize patient access to innovative medicines. Amyn is a pharmacist by training, and has a PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences (Rutgers University), and a Masters of Science in Health Research Methodology (McMaster University, Ontario).

Dr. Bruce Seet is currently Director, Medical Affairs at Sanofi Pasteur where he’s worked since 2014. Bruce started his career in industry at GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) in 2006

where he worked in various functional areas including medical affairs, marketing, policy, and reimbursement and covered a diversity of therapeutic areas including vaccines, oncology, rare diseases and hematology. Dr. Seet is also an Adjunct Professor in the Dept. of Molecular Genetics at the University of Toronto.

Among his volunteer work, he serves on BIOTECanada’s Vaccine Industry Committee and is a member of the Research Management Committee as well as the HQP Development Committee for BioCanRx, a network that advances promising cancer immunotherapeutics in Canada. Bruce is also the founder and President/CEO of the Science to Business Network (S2BN). As a science communicator, Bruce is a frequent speaker, panelist and event moderator and serves as the host and executive producer of the S2BN Podcast.

Bruce earned a B.Sc (Honours Physiology) and a Ph.D. (Microbiology and Immunology) from Western University (London, Canada), followed by a postdoctoral research fellowship at Mt. Sinai Hospital (Toronto). While at GSK, he completed his MBA at the Rotman School of Management (Toronto).
