A fter 2005, it will be possible to inspect in-use twowheelers equipped with large capacity engines

3. Maintenance system (1)
- An o ld maintenance s y s tem under a s tateeconomy only inc luding automobile-transportenterprises .
- F rame regulation: “Rule and Norm formaintenance and repair of automobiles andtrailers” No. 22 T C N 99-79 has been applieds ince 1979.
- Main guideline: Mandatory-preventionmaintenance and repair according to a plan(annual plan, many-year plan)
- Main weaknes s : No economical
3.2. S ince 1990- E arly 1990s : The old s y s tem is had still been
applied for governmental transport enterprises
- Now, in fac t, the old s y s tem is not applied for allvehic les . Meanwhile, there is no a newmaintenance system to replace the old system.The maintenance is not mandatory now.

3.3. The future plan
Under Law on road traffic (dated June 29, 2001
of National A s s embly, proclaimed by Vietnam
P res ident on July 12, 2001, enforcement on
January 1, 2002), quality of vehicles will be
maintained during period between consecutive
inspection times . So V ietnam Register plans to
develop a research projec t to evaluate the
ability of periodical maintenance for vehicles
in V ietnam in 2004. If successful, the
maintenance will be possible starting from
2006 ./.
