Introduction

In 2002 we developed a multivitamin of high quality at a low cost. This product wascalled “Phakamisa” meaning “To Pick Up” or “Uplift”. The name was suggested to us byMineworkers.

From February 2004 the Phakamisa product range has grown tremendously to avariety of products and variations. Phakamisa Healthy Living was registered on 7September 2007.

There is a high customer demand for quality nutritional products at affordable prices.Good nutritional products help to fight illnesses, fatigue and therefore assist the bodyto be more productive. Phakamisa Healthy Living (Pty) Ltd always ensures that supplymeets demand.

Over the last few months Phakamisa commissioned a packing plant in Zinniaville,Rustenburg. The factory is situated in a purpose built building that meet all the pre-requisites for ISO 22,000 certification. The pre-requisite management controls, HACAPand hygiene systems are being installed. The first ISO 22,000 certification audit isscheduled for 16th February 2015. The packaging process is currently fairly labourintensive to ensure maximum job creation. The nutritional powder is fed by an infeedauger into auger filler. The filler is dosing the required amount of nutritional powderinto the pouch. The twin pouch is then injected with the required amount of purifiedwater and then sealed. The pouches are then quality tested and packed in crate linersand crated. From here the crates are packed onto pallets and recorded in the finishedgoods store.


Phakamisa Twin Pouch Water Purification

Description: 500 LPH Reverse Osmosis System with Standard Pre-treatment Raw municipal water is fed to the system. Initially, the feed is pumped to a sand filter for removal of sediment and larger particles. Following this, it is fed through an activated carbon filter. The activated carbon filter removes chlorine and organic contaminants, which are responsible for taste, odour and colour problems in the source water. Carbon’s highly porous nature provides a large surface area for contaminants to collect. The feed subsequently passes through a softening system. The stream flows through the inlet in the control valve at the top of the resin. It then flows down through the resin media, where the hardness salts (calcium and magnesium) are removed through an ion exchange. The resin retains the hardness salts and in turn exchanges them for sodium, thus removing hardness from the feed. Following pre-treatment, the feed enters a 500LPH Reverse Osmosis System. The stream is pumped through a semi-permeable membrane to further filter out minerals, other impurities and reduce the total dissolved solids in the feed. The membrane allows water to pass through but due to its porous nature, prevents contaminants from passing through. Clean water (permeate) leaves the membrane through the water outlet while the concentrate leaves the system through a drain. Following the RO system, the feed will have conductivity less than 5μS/cm. This will be reflected on the conductivity meter of the Reverse Osmosis Unit. If the conductivity achieved is more than 5μS/cm, an alarm will sound, indicating a problem with the Reverse Osmosis System and the feed will automatically bypass the RO unit, open the drain valve and feeding water directly into the drain. The bypass will continue until the issue has been rectified and the conductivity has come back into range. The feed is then pumped to 2 X 10 000L storage tanks, where it is continuously circulated through a 3400LPH UV System, to ensure 100% kill rate of bacteria.

When considering a supplementary feed it is presumed that the workers do have atleast two meals per day, which provides the bulk of their nutritional needs. (A pre-shiftand a post-shift meal). This meal is therefore only supplementary and is not meant toprovide a full day’s nutritional needs. It should therefore comply with the followingrequirements:

• To supplement the food and nutritional intake of workers• To add to a healthy diet plan to maintain the health and well being of the

worker• To supply carbohydrates with a lower glycaemic index to provide constant

energy for at least four to five hours• To provide nutrients to maintain a constant blood sugar level• To be palatable and acceptable• To add extra liquid to the daily intake• To provide a food conforming to all health regulations

Vitamin C: It is required for normal body temperature regulation and assist with the body’s ability to adjust to underground environmental conditions

Vitamin A: It is required for normal dark adaption time. Vitamin D: The intake of this vitamin is affected, as the primary source of

Vitamin D is from the photochemical action of ultraviolet sunlight. Because of the limited exposure to sunlight, it is necessary to ensure adequate Vitamin D intake.

Our Phakamisa Multi Vitamins contains most of the essential vitamins and minerals that yourbody needs to function on a daily basis and it also assists the body to fight fatigue and illnesses.One tablet a day is sufficient. This product can also be used as a supplement to other products.It is a affordable multi vitamin that can be used by anyone. (children older than 12 years)

Phakamisa Twin Pouch

One The Phakamisa Twin Pouch is a 320gram meal that contains 70gram powder and 250ml purified water,separated by a membrane for storage. If stored correctly this product has a 1 year expiring date. Simply putpressure on the package for the water and powder to mix to deliver a fast and instant meal. Ideally suited inareas where fresh water is unavailable or not suitable for human consumption.
