The la zona Rosa site is an iconic Austin location, long es-tablished as a favorite entertainment venue. Origanally part of Austins warehouse district, new mid and highrise devel-opment have encircled the site. It is near the 4th and 6th street entertainment districts, adjacent to Shoal Creek, and will be very near the new public library. The old Seaholm power plant development and Trammell crow’s mixed use developments are scheduled to start in 2013 accross the creek.

The 4th street existing facade is punctuated by an uneven parapet, glazing of diferent types and and unsightly ADA accessable entry. there is no enclosure for the open space on the East end of the structure.

Resolution of these shortcommings consists of translucent screening for the parapet, new glazing, unifing color and awnings. A low feature wall is used to conceal the ADA entry as well as displaying the buildings address. The open space is enclosed and secured for use as an outdoor activi-ty area as well as providing a calming view from the build-ings interior.

The existing open space (old La Zona entry) is uninviting and utilitarian at best with no esthetic value. It is open to 4th street and has no sense of enclosure.

The space is improved by the addition of a central shade structure, privacy wall, fireplace and furniture. The wall is lowered on 4th street and a metal fence alows interaction with the street and neighboring buisnesses.
