University-led: Core Primary

• 24 weeks in different placement schools

• 3-7 Foundation Stage and KS1 • 5-11 KS1 and KS2 • Placements made by the University

3-7 years - PGCE Early Years (Core)• Ideal if you have some relevant

experience with young children and feel passionate about teaching.

• The course offers placements in a range of nursery settings and schools and we ensure that you develop your practice in a variety of contexts.

• You'll pay fees but you might be eligible for funding through tuition fee loans and bursaries.

School-based training: School DirectPrimary

• Training or Salaried routes• SD have 30 days in University throughout

the year for face to face teaching and rest of time in school

• SD placements are Home school/Host school/home school

• The host school is in a contrasting setting and usually where they do their KS1 placement

• The first 12 of the 30 days in University focuses on Core subjects because that is what they teach in school initially and foundation subjects are introduced later as their teaching TT builds

University-led Core: Secondary

• New to teaching – none or little previous experience

• Trainees will have two professional teaching placements across the year, of roughly equal duration

• The first will be called their Base School Placement (18 weeks), the second, their Complementary School Placement (15 weeks)

Secondary routes: School Direct – Training and Salaried• SD Trainee: some experience of working in school/s• SD Salaried: (2 to 3 yrs experience in school/s)• Selected and interviewed by school• Trainees will be based in the same Placement School for

the majority of their training experience, known as the Base School. (11-16 yrs)

• Trainees will be required to complete a Complementary School Placement during the second half of the spring term

• N.B. Salaried often have their own teaching timetable from the start of the year – can be left unsupervised.

PGCE entry requirements First degree (2:1 preferred)

English Language, Maths GCSE ‘C’ or above. (Primary: and science GCSE ‘C’ or above)

Successful interview (by school for School Direct)

Successful completion of the Department for Education’s QTS skills tests. See www.education.gov.uk for details. You will need to register as soon as you have applied and should aim to have passed the tests before interview. If you have not passed by May 1st, your offer could be withdrawn.
