Welcome and Opening Prayer

Grace, mercy and peace from God our Father

and the Lord Jesus Christ be with you. And also with you.

This is the day that the Lord has made.

Let us rejoice and be glad in it.

Loving Lord, fill us with your life-giving,

joy-giving, peace-giving presence, that we may praise you now with our lips

and all day long with our lives through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Hymn

Father God, I wonder

how I managed to exist without the knowledge

of your parenthood and your loving care.

But now I am your child, I am adopted in your family

and I can never be alone ’cause, Father God,

you’re there beside me.

I will sing your praises,

I will sing your praises, I will sing your praises,

for evermore. I will sing your praises,

I will sing your praises, I will sing your praises,

for evermore.

We come to God to say sorry

Lord we have done wrong

in thought, word and deed, We are truly sorry and we ask you to forgive us Help us by your Holy Spirit to live a new life.

Amen.

May Almighty God have mercy upon us,

forgive us our sins and bring us to everlasting life. Amen.

Bible Reading – Luke 11.1-4

The Lord’s Prayer

He was praying in a certain place, and after he had finished, one of his disciples said to him, ‘Lord, teach us to pray, as John taught his disciples.’ He said to them, ‘When you

pray, say: Father, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come. Give us each day our daily bread. And forgive us our sins, for we ourselves forgive everyone indebted to us.

And do not bring us to the time of trial.’

Talk

Hymn

1. Fathers and mothers, sisters and brothers,

all those who love us, for whom we care:

help and befriend them, keep and defend them,

Jesus our Saviour, this is our prayer.

2. And for those others, fathers and mothers,

children who hunger, they must be fed:

we would be caring, readily sharing,

one with another our daily bread.

3. Sisters and brothers, fathers and mothers,

we who together offer our praise:

hear our thanksgiving, God ever living,

may we walk with you all of our days.

Words: Timothy Dudley-Smith (b 1926) Music: Bunessan, Gaelic folk melody, arr John Barnard (b 1948) (Ancient & Modern – 136))

The Lord’s Prayer

God’s love reaches out to us Our Father in heaven,

This place is sacred ground hallowed be Your name.

May our lives reflect God’s glory Your Kingdom come,

May our thoughts reflect God’s thoughts. Your will be done

We long for deep peace on earth as it is in heaven

Love blesses life, knowing earth will provide Give us this day our daily bread.

Where love falls short Forgive our sins, Let justice prevail

as we forgive those who sin against us. Prevent the chaos that leads to wrong doing

Save us from the time of trial For grace is strong where freedom is found.

and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power and the glory is yours now and forever.

Amen.

Come and Chat

Bereavement Support

Group

For the last 3 years we have been

running a Bereavement Support group in the Parish Hall. It has been for

people of all faiths or none, for those recently bereaved or those who are still aching after many years.

However, particularly since Hildred left, it has become clear that we are

not meeting people’s needs, so the meetings on the first Thursday of the

month in the Parish Hall will now stop. We are planning to re-launch

the service in the autumn, in a different format. To help provide

something useful, we have drawn up a short questionnaire to ask those who

are bereaved what would help. If you have lost a loved one – recently

or further back, please fill in one of the Questionnaires which will be at

the back of Oakham Church, or from the website. Sian Cheverton.

Mothers’ Union Wine

Tasting

Thanks must go to Ben and Emma of Bat & Bottle who provided the wine

and entertainment, those who attended on the evening and also

those who generously gave donations. A total of £460 will go to the Lunch

Project started by the MU in Kettering for those children who

need a good, nutritious meal during holiday times. Pamela Woods.
