Welcome

Hymn

Majesty, worship his majesty,

unto Jesus be glory, honour and praise. Majesty, kingdom authority

flows from his throne unto his own, his anthem raise.

So exalt, lift up on high the name of Jesus;

magnify, come glorify Christ Jesus the King. Majesty, worship his majesty,

Jesus who died, now glorified, King of all kings.

Words & Music: Jack W Hayford (b 1934)

Collect

O God the King of glory, you have exalted your only Son Jesus Christ

with great triumph to your kingdom in heaven: we beseech you, leave us not comfortless,

but send your Holy Spirit to strengthen us and exalt us to the place where our Saviour Christ is gone before,

who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit,

one God, now and for ever. Amen.

First Reading – Acts 1.4-5,8-9

While staying with them, he ordered them not to leave Jerusalem, but to wait there for the promise of the Father. ‘This’, he said, ‘is what you have heard from me; for John baptized

with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.’ You will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you will be my witnesses in

Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.’ When he had said this, as they were watching, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him out of their sight.

Talk

Second Reading – Luke 24.45,47-53

Jesus opened the minds of the disciples to understand the scriptures, and He said to them, ‘Thus it is written, that repentance and forgiveness of sins is to be proclaimed in my Name

to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem. You are witnesses of these things. And see, I am sending upon you what My Father promised; so stay here in the city until you have been

clothed with power from on high.’ Then He led them out as far as Bethany, and, lifting up His hands, He blessed them. While He was blessing them, He withdrew from them and

was carried up into heaven. And they worshipped Him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy; and they were continually in the temple blessing God.

Hymn

1. Rejoice! The Lord is King,

your Lord and King adore; mortals give thanks and sing, and triumph evermore:

Lift up your heart, lift up your voice; rejoice, again I say, rejoice.

2. Jesus, the Saviour, reigns,

the God of truth and love; when he had purged our stains, he took his seat above:

3. He sits at God’s right hand till all his foes submit,

and bow to his command, and fall beneath His feet:

Word: Charles Wesley (1707-1788) Music: Gopsal, melody & bass by George Frederick Handel (1685-1759)

Final Hymn & Release of Balloons

You shall go out with joy and be led forth with peace;

and the mountains and the hills shall break forth before you. There'll be shouts of joy and all the trees of the field

shall clap, shall clap their hands, and the trees of the field shall clap their hands,

and the trees of the field shall clap their hands, and the trees of the field shall clap their hands,

and you’ll go out with joy.
