en by the battery charger manufac-turer,- Reconnect starting with the nega-

tive (-) terminal,- Check that the terminals and con-

nectors are clean. If they are cov-ered with sulphate (white or green-ish deposit), disconnect them andclean them.

    - Wait for 2 minutes afterswitching off the ignitionbefore disconnectingthe battery.

    - Never disconnect a ter-minal when the engineis running.

    - Never charge a battery withoutfirst disconnecting the terminals.

    - Close the windows and the roofbefore disconnecting the bat-tery.

    - After every reconnection of thebattery, switch on the ignitionand wait 1 minute before start-ing to allow the electronic sys-tems to be initialised. If slightdifficulties are experienced afterthis, please consult a PEUGEOT

    dealer.

It is advisable to disconnect thebattery if the vehicle is not to beused for a period of more thanone month.

    ECONOMY MODE FUNCTION

After the engine has stopped, certainfunctions (windscreen wiper, elec-tric windows, courtesy lights, audioequipment, etc.) can only be used fora combined duration of approximate-

ly thirty minutes, to prevent discharg-ing the battery.

Once the thirty minutes are over, aswitching to economy mode mes-sage appears on the multi-functiondisplay and the active functions areput on standby.

These functions are reactivated au-tomatically next time the vehicle isdriven.

In order to resume the use of thesefunctions immediately, the enginemust be started and left to run for afew minutes.

The time available to you will then bedouble the duration for which the en-gine is left running. However, this pe-riod will always be between five andthirty minutes.

To start the vehicle from anotherbattery:

    - Connect the red cable to the posi-tive (+) terminals of the two batter-ies,

    - Connect one end of the green orblack cable to the negative (-) ter-minal of the slave battery,

    Front towing eye

    TOWING YOUR VEHICLE

By lifting (two wheels only on theground)

It is preferable to lift the vehicle bythe wheels.

    Never use the radiatorcrossmember.

    Special features of the automaticgearbox

When towing with all four wheels onthe ground, the following rules mustbe adhered to:

    - gear lever in position N,- tow the vehicle at a speed less than

    30 mph (50 km/h) over a distanceof not more than 30 miles (50 km),

    - do not add oil to the gearbox.

    Rear towing eye

From the front or the rear

Attach the tow bar to the towing eye.

Without lifting (four wheels on theground)

You must always use a tow bar.

    Practical information -

    TOWING A TRAILER,CARAVAN, BOAT, etc.

We recommend the use of originalPEUGEOT towbars that have beentested and approved from the designstage of your vehicle and that the fit-

ting of the towbar is entrusted to aPEUGEOT dealer.

Your vehicle is primarily designedfor transporting people and luggagebut it may also be used for towing atrailer.

Driving with a trailer subjects the tow-ing vehicle to more significant stressand its driver must be particularlycareful.

Air density decreases with altitude, thus reducing engine performance.

Above 1 000 metres, the maximumtowing load must be reduced by 10 %and so on for every 1 000 metres ofaltitude.

    Driving advice

Distribution of loads: Distribute theload in the trailer so that the heaviestitems are as close as possible to theaxle and the nose weight approach-es the maximum permitted withoutexceeding it.

Cooling: Towing a trailer on a slopeincreases the temperature of thecoolant. As the fan is electrically controlled, its cooling capacity is not dependenton the engine speed.

On the contrary, use a high gear tolower the engine speed and reduceyour speed.

The maximum towing load on a longslope depends on the gradient andthe outside temperature.

In all cases, pay attention to the cool-ant temperature.

In certain cases of particularly ardu-ous use (towing the maximum loadon a steep gradient in high tempera-tures), switching off the air condition-ing permits the recovery of engine

power and therefore an increase inthe towing capacity.

If the warning light comes on, stopthe vehicle and switch off the engineas soon as possible.

    Tyres:

Check the tyre pressures of the tow-ing vehicle and of the trailer, observ-ing the recommended pressures.

    Braking:

    Towing increases the braking dis-tance.

    Lights:

Check the electrical signalling on thetrailer.

    Side wind:

Take into acount the increased sensi-

    tivity to side wind.

    Fitting/removing the mat

When removing the mat on the driv-ers side, push the seat as far backas possible and remove the fixings.

When refitting, position the mat cor-rectly on the pin and clip the fixings.

Check that the mat is secured cor-rectly.

To prevent the mat from becomingcaught under the pedals:

    - only use mats suited to the fixingsalready present in the vehicle.

It is imperative that these fixings are

used.- never fit one mat on top of another.

    - Clean off bird droppings, resinous deposits, tarstains and

grease marks as soon aspossible; (these all con-tain substances whichcan cause serious dama-ge to the paintwork).

    - Do not use a dry or abrasive clothor detergent or solvent productsto clean the double lens, complexsurface headlamps as they arefitted with polycarbonate glasscovered in a protective finish.

    - Do not use petrol, oil or cloth stainremovers to clean the bodyworkand plastic parts of your vehicle.

    - To prevent the development ofbodywork corrosion as a result of

accidental damage (stone chips, scratches, etc.) have them re-paired swiftly.

    BODYWORK MAINTENANCE

To preserve the paintwork and theplastic trim on your vehicle, we rec-ommend that you wash them regu-larly.

    - by hand: there are no specific pre-

cautions to take;- using an automatic car wash: re-

    peated use of poorly maintainedautomatic car washes can leadto the appearance of microscopicscratches which give the paintworka matt appearance (especially visi-ble on dark colours);

    - using a high pressure washer:always follow the recommenda-tions on the equipment (pressureand spraying distance).

If there are damaged areas on the

vehicle (painted bumpers or head-lamps), it is not recommended todirect the high pressure jet ontothem. Wash these areas by hand.

Also avoid the entry of water intothe locks.

For all questions relating to the main-tenance of your vehicle, contact anapproved dealer who can advise youon quality products selected by ourdepartments.

    Advice on operation andnotes

Place the air flow control at a levelsufficient to ensure an adequate re-newal of air in the passenger com-partment.

When the air flow control is in the

OFF position (system switched off),temperature-related comfort is nolonger guaranteed. However, a slightflow of air, due to the movement of the vehicle, can still be felt.

Select the air distribution which ismost suited to your requirements andthe weather conditions.

Change the temperature setting pro-gressively for greater comfort.

Place the air intake control in the"Exterior air" position, this facilitates

    demisting.

If the interior temperature remainsvery high following a long periodparked in the sun, do not hesitate toventilate the passenger compartmentfor a few minutes.

To obtain a perfectly uniform distribu-tion of air, do not cover the exteriorair intake grille, the vents, the air pas-sages and the air outlets in the foot-wells.

In certain cases of particularly ardu-ous use (towing the maximum loadon a steep gradient in a high temper-ature), cutting off the air conditioningpermits recovery of the engine powerand, therefore improvement of thetowing capacity.

Ensure that the passenger com-partment filter, located by the wind-screen, under the bonnet, is in goodcondition. Have the filter elementsreplaced regularly. If you drive in adusty environment, change themtwice as often.

The air conditioning system does notcontain chlorine and does not presentany danger to the ozone layer.

Operate the air conditioning systemfor 5 to 10 minutes, once or twice a

month to keep it in perfect workingorder.

The water formed by the condensa-tion of the air conditioning system isdischarged via an opening providedfor this purpose. Therefore, a pud-dle may form underneath the vehiclewhen stationary.

If the system does not produce coldair, do not use it and contact yourPEUGEOT dealer.

    "Rearwards-facing"

When a "rearwards-facing" child seatis installed on the front passenger

seat, it is essential that the passen-ger air bag** is disarmed. Otherwise, the child would risk being seri-ously injured or killed if the air bagwere to inflate.

    GENERAL POINTS RELATINGTO CHILD SEATS

Although one of PEUGEOTs maincriteria when designing your vehicle, the safety of your children also de-pends on you.

    For maximum safety, please follow

these precautions:- in accordance with Directive 2003/

20, all children under the age of12 or less than one metre fiftytall must travel in approved childseats suited to their weight,on seats fitted with a seat belt orISOFIX mountings*.

    - statistically, the safest seats inyour vehicle for the transpor-tation of children are the rearseats,

    - a child weighing less than 9 kgmust travel in the "rearwards-facing" position both in the frontand in the rear.

PEUGEOT recommends that chil-dren should travel in the rear seatsof your vehicle:

    - "rearwards-facing"up to the ageof 2,

    - "forwards-facing"over the age of 2.

    * The rules for transporting childrenare specific to each country. Con-sult the current legislation in yourcountry.

    ADVICE ON CHILDSEATS

The incorrect installation of a childseat in a vehicle compromises thechilds protection in the event of anaccident.

Remember to fasten the seat beltsor the child seat harnesses keepingthe slack in relation to the childsbody to a minimum, even for shortjourneys.

For optimum installation of the "for-ward facing" child seat, ensure thatthe back of the child seat is in contactwith the back of the vehicles seatand that the head restraint does notcause any discomfort.

If the head restraint has to be removed,

ensure that it is stored or attached se-curely to prevent it from being thrownaround the vehicle in the event ofsharp braking.

Children under the age of 10 must nottravel in the "forward facing" positionon the front passenger seat, unless

the rear seats are already occupiedby other children, cannot be used orare absent.

Disarm the passenger air bag* whena "rear facing" child seat is installedon the front seat.

Otherwise, the child would risk be-ing seriously injured or killed if the airbag were to inflate.

    Installing a booster seat

The chest part of the seat belt mustbe positioned on the childs shoulderwithout touching the neck.

Ensure that the lap part of the seatbelt passes correctly over the childsthighs.

    PEUGEOT recommends the use of

a booster seat which has a back, fit-ted with a seat belt guide at shoulderlevel.

As a safety precaution, do not leave:

    - one or more children alone and un-supervised in a vehicle,

    - a child or an animal in a vehiclewhich is exposed to the sun, withthe windows closed,

    - the keys within reach of children in-side the vehicle.

To prevent accidental opening of thedoors, use the "Child lock"*.

Take care not to open the rear win-dows by more than one third*.

To protect young children from therays of the sun, fit side blinds on therear windows.
