Summary
This is a stunning 205 GTi. The log book shows just
two owners. The car was carefully stored for 20 years.
One key fits all locks, spares included. Original Dealer
handbooks & original Sales Checklist. It is perfect in
every respect. A number of areas of the car have
been zinc plated to keep corrosion at bay. They look
smashing.
History
The original sales checklist shows Mr James
purchased the car from Bellamys Garage Worthing
Limited on 26-08-1988. The original Dealer number
plates are still fitted on the car. We’re informed Mr
James took the car off the road in 1996 when
rocketing car insurance prices made the car
uninsurable. An MOT test in the file shows the
mileage at that time was recorded at 64617. We’re
further advised it came out of hibernation in 2015 in
remarkably good nick. The first owner sold the car at
Silverstone Auctions in the Spring of 2018. A wealthy
private collector battled strong opposition to win the
car for the sum of £19 688. The MOT history shows
the collector covered around 600miles. Based on the
history we estimate this lovely GTi has been on the
road for only about 12 years.
Interior
The interior is perfect. End of. The original, half
leather seats are in superb condition due to the lack of
use as are the carpets. The dash in unmarked. The
steering wheel has some slight wear, but strangely
only in one small area. It’s consistent with a right-
handed driver holding the steering at around 2.00
o’clock, presumably with the window down and his
elbow out. The electric windows operate flawlessly.
The original gear knob is present. All the switches are
as they should be.
ExteriorThe paintwork is brilliant. All the trim is bright and unmarked. The headlamps, indicators, rear lamps and bumpers all look to be original, confirming no signs whatsoever of any collision damage. Not surprising with a near one owner car stored for many years.Engine & transmissionThe heart beat of the car is that wonderful 130bhp 1.9 fuel injected non-cat engine. It drives amazing. It pulls cleanly in all cars and brings back magical memories of what this car was like back in the 80’s/90’s. It’s truly marvellous. An added bonus. There is an invoice on file from the Peugeot Specialist in Shropshire, French Connection for nearly £7,000. The invoice details an engine out, strip down, with parts being blasted and zinc coated. At the same time it had a new water pump, cam belt and clutch amongst other things.Wheels, tyres & brakesThe wheels have been refurbed recently and look like brand new. The tyres look like recent additions too with lots of tread and in great condition. The brake callipers have been zinc coated they look very good. Being a phase 1.5 it is without power steering which makes this a dream to drive.Additional informationIt is hard to say how good this 205 is. Many of these have been raced/rallied/crashed/ modified or all of the above! Its first owner kept is superb. The second was a very wealthy collector and hardly used it. There are MOT’s and a Dealer Service History on file confirming mileage. With everything done this is ready to enjoy with trouble free mileage, this really is a very rare and special car. If you have spent some time looking for an original very good condition car stop searching you’ve found the car.
