The classics children’s tales of Alice in Wonderland and Peter Rabbit were respectively written by Louis Carroll and Beatrix Potter, who were both pet lovers in the Victorian Era. Under the reign of Queen Victoria, who was a super pet lover in her own right, the concerns for pets and other animals were wide spread during her era from 1831 to 1901. While despising the poor and cruel treatment to animals in her kingdom, the Queen diverted much of her attention to animal rights and welfare and often donated money to animal charities. Her infectious love for pets had a major impact on the cultural norms with how Victorians treated animals during the era. Because of the colder climates of England, Victorians would often fashionably dress up their pets to keep them warm. This common practice has developed through time and is the origin of dressing up pets for Halloween. Regardless of origin, there is a large divide between opinions on the subject

The main argument of opponents against pet wear is pets do not enjoy wearing clothes. They recognize that pets have feelings and comfort zones which might be infringed as the pets will feel uncomfortable and humiliated while wearing outfits. Furthermore, pets may bite and eat the costumes which cause harm to their health as well as their teeth. Opponents dismiss Halloween costumes for pets as a means of dressing up animals as dolls for reasons of entertainment and showing off while demeaning the animal.The main argument of supporters for pet wear is that pet clothing is a form of protection against the colder elements of weather. A good example of animals benefitting is that dogs and horses like to wear shoes in winter because it keeps them warm. Also, service dogs have to wear special uniforms such as collars and vests in public to signify when on the job. Proponents argue that pets look cute and pet wear brings joy to both pets and pet owners alike.Everyone has his/her own opinions towards pet wear and pet costumes. While there is no absolute answer to whether pet wear is a bad or good thing, the fact is that pet lovers should look beyond pet wear and look at the overall picture on pet mental and physical health. Understanding that the pets have needs is the first step. The next is seeking professional advice from the veterinarians if there is any concern.

支持者的理論是動物穿衣裝是作保暖用途去抵抗寒冷的天氣，一個很好的動物受惠例子是狗狗和馬都喜歡在冬天穿上鞋子，讓牠們感到溫暖無比。另一個論點是導盲犬有需要去穿上特別的領帶和制服讓人知道牠們在執行任務中。支持者認為寵物穿上服裝顯得更可愛，這令到主人和寵物都感到愉快，因為兩者顯得更相像。

總括來說，每個人對寵物穿服裝都有自己的看法，因此沒有最正確的答案說其好與壞。最重要的是寵物愛好者需看得更詳遠，保持一個整體的心態顧及到寵物們的生理和心理健康發展。明白寵物們的感受是為首要，其次是向獸醫尋求專業的意見去解決疑惑。

Last year, Pets Central North Point branch had a success-ful Halloween party for celebration. Thanks to the support of our clients and their pets, everyone did enjoy the party. Here is the recap of our last year’s Halloween event.

The participating pets were welcomed by our warm admis-sion gifts of pet grooming and washing service vouchers and gifts from our sponsors. For all participants, we had organized three games. First, we sought out the pet who could withstand the temptation of a snack in the first round. The passion of each pet was entertaining to see. The diffi-culty increased in round 2 when the lovely participants had to navigate a maze and return to their masters’ side. For the final round, the pets had to strut their stuff in an old fashioned “catwalk” competition.

We are going to have another Halloween party this year on Saturday 30 October at 7:30pm in Pets Central North Point. Come out and join us! It’s going to be a whole lot of fun!

第一回合遊戲「鬥耐力」測試那隻寵物忍耐力最強能抵受零食誘惑。美食當前，寵物們都顯得很興奮。第2回合「過關避路障」將難度升級，試看那隻寵物寶貝最快避開眼前障礙物最快回到主人身邊，考驗下寵物們的醒目程度！最後回合由主人領著寵物行進行一場「Catwalk比賽」。

今年Pets Central將再度在10月30日下午7時30分於北角分店舉辦萬聖節派對，歡迎大家和寵物一起參加，一起感受派對的樂趣！

The Pets Central Foundation (PCF) ’s mission is to create a better world for pets and other animals, and make known the real, wholesome and invaluable benefits pets bring to children and their parents.

Starting in late August, PCF launched a series of Saturday activities named as Pets Central Charity Quest (PCCQ) . Its aim is to raise the public awareness of the needs of the animals. We had organized outdoor activities such as’Escaping to a better world’, ‘Longest Bed Sheet Rope’, ‘Pillows & Water balloons’, ‘Hiking’, ‘As high as a kite’ and ‘Are you ready for some football?’respectively . These activities were carried out at different places in Hong Kong such as Mongkok, Happy Valley, Cyberport, Clear Water Bay. The turnout was great for each event, and we successfully brought the message of animal welfare.
