RIGO’ s software for measuring viscosity has been born from rich experience beyond 40 years. The

measurement system built based on MS – Excel is designed to minimize the effects of OS renewal, and the

“User-Friendly” system has also various options, such as Sample Feeder Addition and Weighting Data

Import Function.

In fine-tuning mode, Temperature Indicator registers

digitally the value of a thermometer reading, so a

consistency with the thermometer and a traceability of

the value are secured.

Additional installation of auto-changer, such as Sample

Feeder and Turntable is available to RIGO’ s Automatic

Viscometer as an option.

Interrupt measurement for urgent sample is possible

even in the course of a test, and processing program as

well as the number of continuous processing are able to

modify to user's needs.

A XYZ tri-axis robot in the unit pre-treats the sample

with batch operation. That is, the unit takes sample and

solvent to form a solution of a specified density, and

agitates the solution in dissolution bath.

Then the system processes in order the next steps of

measurement in conjunction with Automatic Viscometer

VMR or VMC.

A light guide made of glass fiber, which is adopted for

meniscus detection of viscometer, is little influenced by

any type of heat medium and temperature.

PID control method based on CPU Calculation, which

has been originally designed by RIGO, offers the stability

as within ±0.01˚C(under 100˚C) or ±0.03˚C(100~180˚C).

Full Automatic Viscometer System, 2 units (Desktop Type)

This, the original type of VMR Series, is a full-automatic viscometer system destined for determination of the Relative Viscosity, Viscosity Number, Intrinsic Viscosity, and Viscosity Mean Molecular Weight of polymer products. What is to do for the measurement is just to set sample container. Then, sampling, maintenance of the sample at a predetermined temperature and a measurement are done repeatedly at a designated number of times (1 to 4 at maximum). After completion of the process of measurement, the viscometer is cleaned by washing with a solvent, and dried with a purge of gas. By this cleaning procedure, the sample container(s) is also cleaned almost completely. Namely, this apparatus can be used to complete a series of operations of viscosity measurement in a generally full-automatic manner.

This, the Standard Type of VMS Series, is a full-automatic viscometer system destined for determination of Viscosity Number and Intrinsic Viscosity of polymer products which phenol series and sulfuric acid are used as a diluting solvent. The viscometers are cleaned, before starting measurement, by repeating twice suction and emission of a sample to be measured. We call the process “Rinse by Sample”, and it is much safer than washing with a solvent.

Up to 30 samples can be measured by using auto -changer for 6 consecutive tests. After measurement of the first solution, a dispensing pipette dilutes the density of solution, and then the system starts the next measurement after the process of Rinse by sample. Repeating the above process, a same solution is measured while diluting in order. Based on the graph on which the results of each densities are plotted, the value of [η] can be obtained by extrapolation method. After completion of the process of measurement, the viscometer is cleaned by washing with a solvent, and dried with a purge of gas.

An asphalt to be tested is coated thin on a plaque (Springy steel), the sample on the plaque is cooled under specified conditions, the plaque carrying the sample on is bent each time the test temperature falls by 1°C and the temperature at which the sample first becomes brittle is measured. A Microphone equipped detects the cracking sound which indicates the appearance of cracks in the sample. The operation is so easy that what to do is just to set a sample and to press start button.

The Photo-Electric Pressure Recorder adopted in this tester is inexpensive, fails scarcely, and has simple structure. It continuously reads the deflection of the Bourdon Tube Pressure Gage Pointer optically from outside without contact with gage pointer, and outputs analog data. When the pressure has come to equilibrium after sample was ejected from capillary, the read of pressure gauge can be imported by pushing import button of screen. This apparatus calculates Apparent Viscosity from the pressure obtained by using two tooth-gears, and displays graphs of Apparent Viscosity as well as Shear Rate Curve.
