How to sign this petition to support Democracy in Venezuela

Thank you for your interest in helping the people of Venezuela at this time of deep crisis, and your

support to request the Canadian government to rightfully advocate the defense of democratic and

human rights in our country.

PLEASE READ CAREFULLY BEFORE PRINTING, FILLING, AND SENDING THIS PETITION

3. Find 25 people living in your community, or that study or work with you, and ask them to handwrite

their signatures (not to print their full name) and the city they live, province and postal code. It is

in Venezuela

PETITION TO THE HOUSE OF COMMONS IN P RLI MENT SSEMBLEDWe, the undersigned residents of Canada draw the attention of the House of Commons to the following:

THAT since peaceful student demonstrations started across Venezuela on February 12th

, the government had

threatened to suspend fundamental rights; that at least five people were shot dead, hundreds were severely injured,

and others detained at the protests had been tortured; that arrest warrants have been issued for oppositionrepresentatives; that the signal of the only TV channel broadcasting the demonstrations inside the country was

blocked while other mass media have been coerced not to show the growing popular discontent; that the

government attempted to block Twitter and internet domains.

THAT the government of Nicolas Maduro and his followers and government-fueled paramilitary groups had been

violating with totalimpunitythe constitutionally and internationally protected fundamental human, civil and political

rights of millions of Venezuelans, and they aredefenselesswithout any impartial institution inside the country to

defend and/or guarantee their essential rights over the present tyranny.

THAT the international community have the duty to make sure that the essential necessary freedoms for a

democratic society, such as the rights of opinion, expression, peaceful demonstration and assembly, are not takenaway from defenceless people by oppressive regimes like it is currently happening in Venezuela.

THEREFORE, we petitioners request to the House of the Commons in Parliament Assembled to:

1. Call on the government of Canada to recognize the democratic crisis in Venezuela that is leaving defenceless

people inside the country at their own luck under the current human right violations.

2. Hold an emergency discussion on this crisis in Venezuela and release an official statement calling the

Venezuelan Government to stop the violation of democratic and human rights, and political persecution as well.

3. Ask the Canadian Government, as a historic leader in the defense of democracy and human rights in the world,

to take a leadership role in mobilizing the international community to stop the Government of Venezuela for in

its multiple and continuous violations of the human rights established as per its own constitution and the

international human rights legislation.

4. Request that Canadas Ambassador to the Organization of American states (OAS) take the lead in calling for an

emergency discussion at the OAS to activate the Inter-American Democratic Charter, and to consider sending a

delegation conformed by representatives from different nations of the Americas to monitor and report the

violations of human rights in Venezuela.

5. The creation of a group of Canadian parliamentary friends of Venezuelans to work with the Canadian-

Venezuelan community for the return of democracy in Venezuela.

6. Debate the implementation of an emergency Visa program to allow direct relatives of Venezuelan Canadians

inside Venezuela to leave the country to Canada at this moment of severe crisis.

7. Call both the House of Commons Foreign Affairs committee and subcommittee on International Human Rights

to update its report from June 2012 about the situation of human rights in Venezuela.

8. Facilitate a visit to Canada of Venezuelan opposition leaders and parliamentarians to testify on the current

situation in Venezuela.
