Peterhof is the most amazing in the world Palace and Park ensemble! Many people compare it with

Versailles.

Peterhof is famous for its fountains, palaces and statues.

The idea of creation of Park belongs to Peter 1. Solemn opening of Peterhof took place 1723. Translated from the Dutch Peterhof

means Petrov yard.

In the years of the war the Park of Peterhof was captured by German troops. Art treasures were plundered or destroyed, all the parks cut down trees, the Grand Palace was blown up and burned. Statue of Samson, the Magus, the

Neva and many others were removed.

After the war the Park was restored. The most prominent building of the Peterhof ensemble is the

Great Peterhof Palace.

Park zone of Peterhof is divided into Upper and Lower parks.

Today all the palaces of Peterhof and all its parks are part of the state Museum-reserve

"Peterhof".
