Thank you to the many volunteers who helped make the day a huge success and the generosity of the donors of raffle prizes. Thanks again to our community who attended the family fiesta and helped raised funds for this worthwhile cause. I am pleased to advise that we were able to raise over $1400 on the day. Many of you will know John from his long term dedication to volunteering and fund-raising activities for charities outside my office at Northlakes. John was diagnosed with Melioidosis in early February, which meant a very lengthy stay in the Darwin Private Hospital. The medical and support staff at the Private Hospital did an outstanding job caring for John. It is believed he is the oldest person at 97 to have contracted and survived this soil-borne disease. Whilst in the hospital, he had many visitors from both old friends and new. I keep in regular contact with John and I was also lucky enough to catch up with him at my Good Neighbours Family Fiesta on 3 July 2016. John has asked me to let his friends know that he misses being able to spend time with you at his regular spot and is looking forward to being able to resume his ‘duties’ as soon as he can. I am sure you will all join me in wishing John a speedy recovery.
