September 5, 2005 Dear Friends of all the NPH offices, The following is a report of the events, activities and some other relevant things that have happened since my last report which was sent at the beginning of July. Two groups of visitors stayed with us recently. First, we had the visit of a group of four boy scouts from France who came to supervise the construction of 10 camarotes (bunk beds) for our children. They had collected the money in France specifically for the construction of the beds for the children. The group of boy scouts was with us for about fifteen days. They stayed with the boys at the house for that period of time and got to know the schedules and activities of the children. They were happy to live with the children of NPH. In fact, the boy scouts participated in some of the activities with the children. When they left, they gave each of our children small, individual gifts. This group left on July 31 st . At the same time, I got an email from Mariavittoria from Italy telling me about two medical dentists who were coming to visit and help us and hopefully get funds for NPH in the future. These two dentists stayed with us for a period of two weeks and during that time, they gave the personnel and the children talks in how to wash their mouths and the importance of taking care of their teeth. We provided them with meals and lodging. These two dentists left on August 7 th . NPH-Peru wants to thank these two dedicated groups who came to share their knowledge and time with our children. One of our oldest children, Jhon Carlos will represent his school in a math competition involving other schools in the province. We have encouraged him to be an example to the younger ones since I believe he has the potential and is also one of our best children.

September 5, 2005 Dear Friends of all the NPH offices, The following is a report of the events, activities and some other relevant things that have happened since my last report which was sent at the beginning of July. Two groups of visitors stayed with us recently. First, we had the visit of a group of four boy scouts from France who came to supervise the construction of 10 camarotes (bunk

beds) for our children. They had collected the money in France specifically for the construction of the beds for the children. The group of boy scouts was with us for about fifteen days. They stayed with the boys at the house for that period of time and got to know the schedules and activities of the children. They were happy to live with the children of NPH. In fact, the boy scouts participated in some of the activities

with the children. When they left, they gave each of our children small, individual gifts. This group left on July 31st. These two dentists left on August 7th.

While our family continues to be 25 children, our social worker is constantly looking for more children to join our family in the Fiscalias de familia, Juzgados de familia,

Demunas in Cajamarca and with many other organizations that work with children in Cajamarca and surrounding area. We are the only NPH home to get regular visits from the legal authorities, the Family Fiscals who are responsible for the children. During the first week of August, we had two unexpected visits from the 1st and 2nd fiscalias de familia. They were surprised to find everything in order, clean and organized; however, this is how we work in NPH-Peru. They made a couple of recommendations: to consult with a nutritionist regarding our menu for the children as they think our menu is inadequate, and to find a permanent psychologist. Currently, we take our children who need psychological assistance to a psychologist in private

practice. We have office space ready in our home for the use of a psychologist once we find the right individual. In addition, we are also working on our menu with a professional nutritionist. The emphasis for NPH-Peru is on quality as opposed to quantity; our goal is to have 50 children in our care by the end of the year.

Our children entered school on August 15th, after a long vacation of two weeks. During the vacation, the Boy Scouts and the Italian dentists accompanied the children and personnel on an excursion to a miniature zoo one hour from Cajamarca. The children enjoyed it so much that they ask constantly when they can return. We have told them it depends on their behavior at home, and their school grades.

Two of our children were bitten on separate occasions by dogs. We have taken the necessary precautions for rabies. In addition, one of our girls showed signs of hepatitis, but her test results were negative. Two of our children contracted varicela (chickenpox) from a schoolmate. Again, we have taken all the precautions and taken them to the hospital. These two children are recovering, but are still not attending school at this moment.

Friends of our lawyer coordinated a surprise party for the children. They brought gifts and snacks for all our children. Our children were very happy to have Barney with them for the whole afternoon. During this surprise party, I made a presentation to these people in order to explain to them the mission and vision of NPH. This was an excellent opportunity to get to know people outside of the legal institutions where we have direct contact. We have visited some properties and hopefully Fr. Phil will pass on to you some more information about those properties. There is one property closer to Lima which might suit our needs. As Lima is the capital of Peru, this is where most of the economic, cultural and political power is located. This is all for now. I want to thank all of the NPH offices for their time and dedication to our project here in Peru. I know that we are late in starting our sponsorship department. Many offices have shown a great interest in Peru and the children. Soon we will be putting pictures of our children on the Intranet so that we can start this month without any delay. Additional photos can be found on the Intranet Photo Gallery. Thanks and best regards, Alfredo Hernandez National Director NPH-Peru
