    - These are lines,which run parallel

    express ideas ofcalmness andquiescence.

    - Is associated withthe body in upright

    standing position andgenerally expresses

    poise, alertness,equilibrium, firmness,

    strength, at the sametime that it connotes astatic position thoughnot without tension.

    - Lines poised for

    action. They suggestpoise, balance, force,aspiration, exaltation

    and dynamism.

    Diagonal Lines

    - Is associated withthe body forward

    and chargingpurposely towards

    an objective.- (or Oblique lines)they tend to

    portray action,movement,

    change, life. Theygive animation to

    any composition inwhich they appear.

    - Shows action,life, and energy.

    It suggests graceand beauty and is

    associated with thebody inmovements that

    create a rhythm ofcurved lines in

    space.

    Zigzag Lines

    - (crooked or jagged

    lines) express energy,violence, conflict

    and struggle.

    - Crooked lines hasno beauty. Although

    it does not suffer

    from monotony likestraight line, itschanges have no

    order ororganization. And itlacks the harmony

    and rhythm of acurve.

    - Jagged lines orbroken straight lines.

    - It is the range ofvisual light in the

    spectrum andproperties of the

    pigments used inmaking visual art.- It has the mostaesthetic appeal.Delight in color isa universal human

    characteristics.Color is a propertyof light.

    Primary colors: Red, Blue& yellow

    Secondary colors:Violet,Green & Orange

    Complementary colors:

    those are opposite in thescale (e.g., red & green)

    Intermediate colors:those adjacent in the wheel(e.g., red & violet)

    INTENSITY(Chroma)

    - is the amountof pigment or

    saturation. Thebrightness &dullness of a

    hue.

    Color Schemes Monochromatic: This scheme uses different values of a

    single hue. For example, dark green, medium green andlight green.

    Analogous: This color scheme uses colors that are side byside on the color wheel and share a hue.

    Warm or cool color scheme: Warm colors schemes withred, yellow and orange colors remind us of the sun and itswarmth. Artists use blue, green and violet - cool colorschemes to make us think of cool items such as ice orgrass.

    Ways of Using Color Representational Use the artist paints objects from the real world.

    Impressionist Use rejects the painting or colors in the local order.

    Decorative or ornamental Use (e.g., carpets, textiles, wallpaper)

    Personal Use (e.g., red face bears strong feelings)

    Scientific Use the use of a consistent format of a colored square of adifferent hue.

    Symbolic Use (e.g., color of the flag)

    Characteristics of Color Colors differ in intensity and vividness.

    A color is changed by the presence of other colors.

    Colors have definite psychological and emotionalconnotations. Black: death

    White: innocence, purity

    Blue: heaven, truth, virginity

    Red: blood, love, hate

    Yellow: divinity, sacredness, degradation, treason, deceit

    Brown: spiritual death, renunciation of the world

    Texture

    - is the way anobject feels

    when you touchit. It can be

    seen as well asfelt. Surface

    quality real or

    implied.(e.g. smooth,

    rough)

    Space

    - Is an element of artthat refers to the

    distance between,around, above, belowand within things. In

    both two and three-dimensional works ofart, the shapes or formsare called the positive

    area. The empty spacesbetween the shapes arecalled negative spaces.

    The relationshipbetween the positive

    and the negative spacewill affect how the

    artwork is interpreted.

    Form

    Like shapes, formshave length and

    width. Forms alsohave a third

    dimension, depth.Form is an elementof art that refers to

    an object with threedimensions. Withthe forms found in

    works of art, such as

    sculpture, you canactually experiencethe three dimensionsby walking around or

    into the works.

    Volume

    - Is that quality ofan object whichenables us to know

    that it hasthickness, lengthand breadth. Wesee volume in twoways in paintingsince paintings aretwo dimensional.

    The first is by

    outline contours orshapes of objects.

    Second is by lightsand shadows.
