By Garry Robinson http://www.kaizenoutdoorfitness.com/personal-trainer-tips/ Being a fitness trainer is a challenge. A lot of folk outside the industry don’t realise the amount of effort you have to put into this business and sometimes we need a bit of motivation too. Unlike many other businesses, this is an immensely personal one. You’re working hand-in-hand with clients on a very regular basis. You take on their emotional struggles as yours. You listen to excuses and absorb their negative energy. I can’t think of many other professions that parallel the level of personal engagement as ours. You’re not just in the business of helping people lose weight. You’re in the business of helping people grow their confidence. You’re in the business of helping people feel good about themselves. You’re in the business of helping people achieve their goals by instilling them with a strong sense of drive. This is the bigger picture.

You’re not just in the business of helping people lose weight. You’re in the business of helping people grow their confidence. You’re in the business of helping people feel good about themselves. You’re in the busi-ness of helping people achieve their goals by instilling them with a strong sense of drive. This is the bigger picture.

The reason you joined this industry was to change people’s lives for the better.

“Setting an example is not the main means of influencing others; it is the only means.” – Albert Einstein

This is something I live by. I remind myself that I am in the business of making a positive impact on peo-ples’ lives. And to do this, I need to set positive examples for others to follow.

Personal Trainer Tips Being a fitness trainer is a challenge. I can’t think of many other profes-sions that parallel the level of personal engagement as ours.

Here are some of the things I use to motivate myself. I hope you can draw some inspiration from them too. 1. My company name is also my personal motto, so I get to see it every day. Kaizen means “change for the

better”. Every day I try to improve myself in at least one area. 2. Train with other PTs. Invite them along to your bootcamps to workout with you, or simply meet for a

coffee. It is amazing how much this will open your mind to new ideas. 3. Spend 10mins of each day listening to an inspiring talk at TED.com 4. Observe how dogs behave when they get to the dog park. Yes, dogs! Do you ever see a dog chase a ball at

“75% of its maximum heart rate to optimise its metabolic response?” No way! They go at it 100%. 5. Listen to music. Whenever I hear a song that motivates me or a lyric that inspires me I add it to my

workout playlist. 6. Look at the environment around the park or beach where you train. There are probably places in your

neighbourhood that you haven’t even been yet. Seek them out. You can turn features in your environ-ment into new workout ideas.

There is inspiration all around you, all the time. You just have to be open to it. Now before I head off and let you do your thing, I’ll leave you with another powerful message. “Keep away from people who try to belittle your ambitions. Small people always do that, but the really great make you feel that you, too, can become great.” – Mark Twain
