SFSC offers an array of photography courses online. Explore digital photography, secrets of better photography, and mastering

your digital camera. A new session of each course opens each month, allowing you to enroll whenever your busy schedule

permits! How does it work? Once a session starts, two lessons will be released each week, for the six-week duration of your

course. You will have access to all previously released lessons until the course ends. Keep in mind that the interactive discussion

area for each lesson automatically closes 2 weeks after each lesson is released, so you’re encouraged to complete each lesson

CRN 21256 is beginning acrylic painting and CRN 21257 is intermediate/advanced acrylic painting. Participants will learn the principles of acrylic painting at the beautiful Hotel Jacaranda in downtown Avon Park. This class is for beginning and intermediate students. Students will paint subjects of their choice or work on a project with the instructor. Usually, two paintings are completed during the session. To register, call 863-784-7405. The following supplies will be needed:

Most Used Paint Colors: Burnt Sienna (Winsor-Newton Artist Acrylic is preferred by instructor); Burnt Umber, Hookers Green, Cobalt Blue, Yellow Ochre, Hansa Yellow Light, Titanium White (Large Tube). Instructor encourages the use of Artist Grade Paint, such as Liquitex Professional, Golden or Winsor-Newton Artist Acrylic. Brushes: No. 4 Hog Hair Fan (also called Bristle). Need soft synthetic for all of the following brushes: No. 3 or 4 Liner, No. 2 Flat, No. 2 or Smaller Script Liner plus any others you like to use. Optional Paint Colors: Cadmium Red Dark, Cadmium Orange, Black, Dioxazine Purple, Cobalt Green, Green Gold, Yellow Orange Azo, Burnt Orange and any other colors you wish to use. Other supplies: white pastel pencil or chalk, No. 2 pencil, eraser, Q-tips, natural wool sponges, paper towels, palette knife, small spray bottle, palette and/or palette paper and two 16” x 20” canvases.

Chair Aerobics allows seniors and individuals with mobility issues to use chair aerobics to participate in exercise, but without the impact and risk of falling of regular aerobics classes. This four-hour course is required to carry a concealed firearm in Florida. Topics covered will include Florida Statutes, use of deadly force, carry restrictions, and a live-fire exercise. Everything for the course will be provided. YOU MUST REGISTER BEFORE THE START OF THE COURSE. To register, call 863-784-7405. This four-hour course is designed to provide training to anyone who already has a valid concealed weapons permit. Instruction will include basic weapons handling, marksmanship, live-fire exercises, care and cleaning of a handgun. Authorized weapons include revolvers or semi-automatic handguns in calibers .22, .25, 32, 380, 9mm, 38, 357, 40, 45 and 44. Handguns chambered in rifle calibers or fully automatic weapons will not be allowed. Anyone interested in taking this course must bring a handgun and 50 rounds of factory ammunition, all other materials will be supplied. YOU MUST REGISTER BEFORE THE START OF THE COURSE. This four-hour course is for drivers who have received a traffic citation, court order to attend, or were involved in a traffic accident and were issued a ticket. This course can also be taken for the possibility of a discount on car insurance. Students are responsible for checking with their own individual insurance companies to explore if discounts are extended. Pre-registration is required. The $55 fee may be paid by cash, check, or credit card. Participants may register at the Welcome Center (Building B) on the Highlands Campus or at any SFSC campus or center. The 12-hour advanced driver improvement course for drivers who have a suspended license, have too many points, or are court ordered to take this class. Call for price quote. Advanced Driver Improvement

Online Driver Education Courses

Visit SFSC’s online driver courses, anytime, at southflorida.edu/driverclass. The following classes are offered in English and Spanish: Four-Hour Florida Basic Driver Improvement, $20; DMV Permit Test, $29; and Four-Hour Florida First Time Driver Course, $29. In English only, SFSC offers the 12-Hour Florida Advanced Driver Improvement Course, $63; Eight-Hour Florida Basic Driver Improvement Course, $59; and Florida Six-Hour Mature Driver Course, $15.

The Alcohol Drug Accident Prevention Training (ADAPT) four-hour course is for first-time driver’s license applicants. Pre-registration is required. Lifetime Learners Institute

The Lifetime Learners Institute presents a series of educational programs and social activities centered around a variety of topics. Participants may register for individual classes or an entire season. Lectures, discussions, presentations, and optional field trips provide the structure of the programs. The Lifetime Learners season begins in October and ends in March allowing for both our year-round and much-welcomed snow friends an opportunity to attend. Sessions are held Thursdays with at least one field trip per month. Field trips provide a relaxed environment for adults to develop new interests and enjoy opportunities for personal growth and social interaction with like-minded people. Heartland Games for Active Adults

Each February, the annual Heartland Games for Active Adults promote physical fitness, good health, and a competitive spirit among adults ages 50 and older. The top five finalists in each age and gender category qualify to compete in the Florida Senior Games State Championships. SFSC offers a variety of games, including: bridge, golf, swimming, shuffleboard, euchre, pickleball, bowling, table tennis, mah-jongg, cycling, track and field, and tennis.
