Claim to Fame: After having visions of God asking me to “come be His light,” I established a religious organization called the “Missionaries of Charity”. Our hope was to provide service to the most destitute, the poorest of the poor. I spent my days, rosary in hand, in the poorest slums of Calcutta, India. We later spread our work around the world.

In 1979, I won a Nobel Peace Prize for my humanitarian work. What an honour that was!

Canonization: I was beatified on October 19, 2003 by Pope John Paul II.

Claim to Fame: Known as “The Sinner,” for the lifestyle I led, I wanted to show Jesus how deeply sorry I was for my sins. I washed His feet with my tears and dried them with my hair. Though others ridiculed me, Jesus forgave me. I will never forget His powerful words, “Your sins are forgiven. Your faith saved you. Go in peace.”

I followed Him everywhere. I was there for His crucifixion and burial. After His resurrection, He came to me first! Does He LOVE me or what?

Canonization: I was declared a saint before official canonization began in the 12th century.
