The Story Continues

The young maiden was daughter of a king. Her name: Andromeda. Her mother: arrogant

Gods:

*sent monster to ravage kingdom

*King was told by oracle to sacrifice Andromeda to the monster

Perseus offers to save her…for marriage

Andromeda’s mother’s arrogance caused her situation.

The Battle Begins

A fierce battle between Perseus and the sea monster begins…

*monster plunges towards him

*Perseus stabs him in shoulder

*Stabs until he is soaked

*Retreats to a rock

The Wedding

Perseus and Andromeda marry…

*Phineus is jealous*a fight ensuesFinally says:“All who are my friends

turn away your eyes”Perseus shows them

head of Medusa*turn to stone

• Phineus begged for mercy

• Perseus told him it would be good for wife to have lasting memorial of him

• Phineus is frozen forever

Meanwhile, back in Seriphos…

• The king pursues Danae (Persues’ mom)

• Perseus returns to rescue mother

• Approaches the king and his court at a round table…and asks him a question…

The King replies, “Yes.” That was a big mistake.

The King’s Court…turns to stone!

Upon showing the court the head of Medusa, they all turn to stone!

The brother (kind fisherman) Dictys is placed on the throne.

Perseus Returns to Argos

*Grandfather TAKES OFF because of oracle

*Perseus innocently follows

*He participates in game…father is in audience

*father killed by discuss

Perseus on his way to Athena’s temple.

Athena Immortalizes Them

Athena immortalizes Perseus, Andromeda, her parents, and sea monster…turns them into constellations. They are situated side by side.

Mythology is in our culture…and in our skies!
