Boat Club News Perrysburg Boat Club May, 2017 Commodore’s Line - Dave Dicke DOCKS OPEN! CALL IT SUMMER! Ruth and I attended a couple more AYC Club Balls with several yet to come! Spring is here! Docks are in and open! What a great effort by several crews on several days prior to get the main sections in place along the bulkhead to be assembled Saturday 4-22. Without those efforts, we surely would have not have been able to accomplish so much and get the docks open the same day! I am sure this is the first time we actually opened the docks the same day we assembled them. P/C and Dock Master Jerry Abair, P/C Mike Bureau, Kurt Grosskopf, Chis Shuff, R/C Will Buttner, P/C Wayne Eilers, P/C Dick Wagoner, and so many more have put in countless hours to get the docks ready for Saturday’s assembly. We are so fortunate to have such a great membership body willing to “get‘r done.” For anyone that has never seen this process before the best way to describe it is “a bee hive of activity” that looks like a “Chinese fire drill” at first then quickly morphs into organized assembly with great efforts by many to reach the goal. Lady Phyllis Hyder and her crew provided a fantastic lunch. I cannot thank enough all the membership for your dedication to the Club in this endeavor! We only had one incident that may deserve the coveted Anchor Award. P/C Jerry Abair is still working hard to get us the needed variances, design changes and other administrative items needed to secure our building permits. We cannot thank him enough for his tenacity and drive to get our Club the documents and designs needed to move ahead with our new home. We are optimistic that we may be able to break ground in the early fall. Thanks to P/C Richard and Sheri Luedtke for hosting the Winter Pot Luck. Ruth and I were sorry we could not attend. I heard that it was great and those who attended enjoyed the evening tremendously. The Board met with no notable changes or policy issues made for your consideration. The General Membership Meeting was held with no notable issues other than the building progress covered. We did decide that as summer begins larger, more comfortable Port-a-Jon will be secured for our use as needed. Thanks to our youth and adult members who participated in the Walleye Weekend parade and open house for the Club. Your attendance let the community know we are here and will be here for a long time. We may get new members as well!

Commodore’s Line - Dave Dicke

DOCKS OPEN!

Rear Commodore - Willard Buttner

We’ve had very nice weather so far this spring. If the weather cooperates we will be in good shape for an early start to the boating season.

Thank you to Jerry Abair and all the PBC members who helped. As special thank you to Phil Barone for feeding the pre-Docks-In crew. Rosie’s Pizza, it’s the best!

Jo and I had a great time at the Potluck at Luedtke’s. Thank you for having us. It was nice to see our PBC members just before the start of the season. (continued below)

SAILBOAT RACING I am encouraging the youth and adult members to attend and race any sail boats at the Wednesday and holiday Pot Lucks this year. The adults running the races will help you with the rules and encourage you to have fun competing against each other and other Club members. We hope that the weather finds our season conducive to the joy of sailing and the fun of racing again this year.

PBC Youth, get out and have fun with those boats. That is what they were made for and why they were donated for you to use, race and enjoy!

NOTE DATE CHANGE OF WELCOME ABOARD

NOW 5-12-17 CHANGED FROM 5-6-17 Location: Toledo Sailing Club is unchanged (2710 Broadway St.

(across from Toledo Zoo) 6:00 pm a light meal will be served.

It was great seeing everyone at Docks-In. Special thanks to Jerry Abair on the docks and Phyllis Hyder for organizing the lunch. Thanks to all that helped with the food, docks and getting the Club ready for the year!

Our website has a new look! Recent changes to Club Runner required that we “get with the times” on our website. The new format allows for the content to be viewed better on mobile devices (like cell phones and tablet computers). Using your phone, it will be easier to look at the calendar and what’s going on at the Club.

Functionally the website is still the same. I have added a new link to the Maumee River water level in Waterville. This can be a useful gauge to forecast near term river levels. It is not 100% accurate due to its location and unanticipated variables that can occur such as wind directions. I have also added links to Sailflow for wind forecasts as well as links to the AYC and IYLA websites so you can stay up to date on their events.

We are still updating some content on the website, but let me know if you notice anything that needs corrected. A big thanks to John Elden, Club Webmaster, for keeping the site going. It is a great tool for prospective members to get information about the Club.

Rob Brunner, Vice-Commodore
