Goudsmit Magnetic Supplies
Goudsmit Magnetic Supplies forms part of the Goudsmit Magnetics Group operating worldwide, a family business incorporated in 1959 with branches in The Netherlands, France, Germany, UK, Czech Republic and China. The company is specialized in delivering high quality permanent magnets and magnet systems to, among others, the automotive, electronics and medical industries.
Permanent Magnets
Permanent Magnets play an important role in the present technologically advanced living environment. They are indispensable in electrical engineering, with applications in, among others, generators, motors and relays. In the automotive industry the use of permanent magnets has also increased strongly in the last years, for example in air bags, ABS-systems and sensors. The number of applications keeps increasing on a daily basis. In addition the alternative energy sources
(wind, sun and water power) are an increasingly larger market for the application of magnets. Traditionally AlNiCo and Ferrite are the most commonly used, but the demand for smaller and more powerful magnets has resulted in the development of magnet types based on the so-called rare earth materials. Samarium Cobalt (SmCo) and Neodymium (NdFeB) permanent magnets; these develop enormous magnetic power at small dimensions and are available in a large diversity.
As one of the few European suppliers of magnets Goudsmit Magnetic Supplies is, in addition to being ISO 9001:2008 certified, also certified for ISO/TS 16949:2009 and makes optimal use of a worldwide operating distribution network. We can also offer you the support of our expert R&D and Quality engineers.

Neodymium (NdFeB)
Neodymium-Ferro-Boron (NdFeB) Magnets are delivered by Goudsmit under the brand name Neoflux®. It is the most powerful magnet, with a maximum energy product going up to even more than 50 MGOe. As protection against corrosion Neodymium magnets are provided with a coating that can consist of Nickel, Nickel-Copper-Nickel, Zinc, Tin, Aluminium, Teflon or Epoxy. These magnets are used, among others, in motors, megaphones, separators,
MRI scanners, windmills, electronics and vehicles, usually in combination with sensors.

Samarium-Cobalt permanent magnets
page 5 Goudsmit Magnetics - Driven by magnetism
Samarium-Cobalt (SmCo)
SmCo magnets pertain, just like Neodymium-Ferro-Boron (Neoflux®) magnets, to the rare earth magnets. SmCo magnets have excellent magnetic characteristics with a maximum energy product of 18 to 30 MGOe, a low temperature coefficient and a high stability. Moreover they are very resistant to oxidation and require no coating under normal circumstances. SmCo magnets are the best choice, especially for applications where durability is of great importance.
For example within advanced electronic products, medical equipment and the automotive industry. The maximum usage temperature is approx. 300˚C.

AlNiCo Permanent Magnet Specifications
page 6 Goudsmit Magnetics - Driven by magnetism
AlNiCo
AlNiCo magnets are made of Aluminium, Nickel and Cobalt. Most AlNiCo magnets are cast, whereby the alloy is cast in a sand form in liquid state at very high temperatures. This can take place in complex forms, such as for example the form of a horseshoe. To prevent demagnetisation the correct length/diameter proportion must be maintained.

Ferrite Permanent magnets
page 7 Goudsmit Magnetics - Driven by magnetism
Ferrite
Ferrite Magnets or ceramic magnets are the most used magnets with a maximum energy product from 1 to approx. 4.3 MGOe. Ferrite is the cheapest magnet material and has a high corrosion resistance, which means a coating is not necessary. Ferrite magnets can be produced both isotropic and anisotropic and the usage temperature is a maximum of 225˚C. The applications are very broad; think about products such as megaphones, microwaves,
measuring equipment, toys, motors, reed-contacts etc.

page 8 Goudsmit Magnetics - Driven by magnetism
Plastic bonded NdFeB Magnets can be manufactured by means of pressing or extruding from basic material consisting of Ferrite, NdFeB, or SmCo. It is mixed with thermoplastic material, such as polyamide. The advantage is that it can be pressed or extruded in complex forms. Plastic bonded NdFeB magnets have a great resistance against corrosion, but it is still advisable to provide them with a coating so that the durability is optimal.
Due to the isotropy, the plastic bonded magnets can be magnetized in different directions.
