Perks of growing up, follows a boy called ‘Max’ going in to secondary school.

The movie is all about the sudden change in life; from being a child to a teenager.

It follows the ups and downs of being a teenager, and the sudden change of emotions for a young boy. For example in primary school, boys always thought that if you touched a girl, or was around one you would get ‘kuddies’. But in secondary school, if you don’t have a girlfriend then you are thought as uncool.

Perks of growing up (overview)

Page 3: Perks of growing up

Perks of growing up is ‘a coming of age’ movie with elements of comedy.

We decided that this film would be ‘a coming of age’ movie as it follows the transition of a boy, from a child to a teenager.

To make the movie less serious and more enjoyable for the audience, we decided to add elements of comedy; as it is more of a kids movie then an adults movie.

Genre

Page 4: Perks of growing up

The movie that inspired us to make ‘a coming of age’ film was Dairy of a wimpy kid.

As it also follows a boy moving on to middle school, and the changes in his life as he grows older.

The genre of the movie is also comedy, which also inspired us to put funny elements into our movie; but not as much, as we also wanted the audience to focus on the main aspect of the movie, which is changes in life.

Inspiration for the movie

Page 5: Perks of growing up

I would like to think that Perks of growing up has a broad audience, but if we had to target a specific age group then it would be 12-20.

Reason being that, from the age of 12 your body starts changing emotional and physically.

older audience can relate; look back at their young teen years and have a connection with the movie.

Target audience?

The movie will be released in the summer of 2014.

Reason being is that, there are going to be more children going to the cinema with their parents; as at this time of the year, children have their summer holidays.

And it is guaranteed that, by releasing the movie in the summer their will be more audience and more attraction around the movie, as most people have free time in the summer.

Thor Freudenthal, has directed Dairy of a wimpy kid and Hotels for dogs.

We thought that he would be the appropriate director for Perks of growing up, as he has alot of experience making kid movies.
