Perimeter
Learning Goals
0LG: Develop and apply a formula for determining the perimeter of polygons
0Kid Friendly: Be able to find the perimeter of a non curved shape
0What I think I know:
Definition
0Perimeter: the distance around a two-dimensional shape
0The perimeter of a shape means adding up the length of each side
For Example
Why is this an important concept?
Equations
0There are specific equations you can use to find certain perimeters
0 If your shape is a REGULAR polygon than you know that all of the sides are the same. That means you could take the length of each side and multiply by the number of sides on the shape
0 If your shape is an IRREGULAR polygon you will need to add the length of every side together
Specific Equations
0The equation to find the perimeter of a square is:0 4 x the length of one side
0The equation to find the perimeter of a rectangle is:0 2 x the length + 2 x the width
Practice
0Using a ruler, can you find the perimeter of the following things in our classroom in cm?0 A table0 A desk0 A ruler0 A piece of loose leaf0 A cubby0 Items of your choosing
