Performing self diagnosis Initiating basic setting  Special tools and workshop equipment required

◆ V.A.G 1869 Brake filling and bleeder unit

Warning for vehicles with ABS/EDL! Ensure that a filling pressure of 1 bar is not exceeded, when filling brake fluid using brake filling and bleeder unit V.A.G 1869.

Function 04 "Initiate basic settings" performs three functions with the ESP:

◆ -1- Display group number 001 is required to bleed the hydraulic unit.

◆ -2- In display group number 031 a functional check of the brake pressure solenoids and the brake recognition switch is performed.

◆ -3- Display group numbers 060, 063 and 066 are required to perform a zero compensation of the steering angle sender, the lateral acceleration sender and the brake pressure senders.

-1- Hydraulic unit is bled using display group 001 on vehicles with an ESP system =>Page 01-215.

Basic settings 04, display group number 001 is only required when at least one of

Page 1 of 23Running Gear Self-Diagnosis for ABS

11/28/2004file://C:\ElsaWin\html\RL\XML\V\2\614495.xml

the brake fluid reservoir chambers is completely empty.

Basic settings must also be carried out after a leaking brake system has been serviced.

Function 11 "Login procedure" is not required in this case.

-2- Using display group number 031 a functional check of the brake pressure solenoid valve and the brake recognition switch is performed =>Page 01-225.

This is required when:

◆ Brake servo is replaced. ◆ When a fault memory requires it to

be carried out.

Function 11 "Login procedure" is not required in this case.

-3- Using display group numbers 060, 063 and 066 a zero compensation is performed.

Zero compensation of steering angle sender is performed with display group number 060 =>Page 01-228.

Zero compensation of lateral acceleration sender is performed with display group number 063 =>Page 01-231.

Zero compensation of brake pressure sender is performed with display group number 066 =>Page 01-233.

Performing zero compensation using

Page 2 of 23Running Gear Self-Diagnosis for ABS

11/28/2004file://C:\ElsaWin\html\RL\XML\V\2\614495.xml

display group numbers 060, 063 and 066 requires that function 11 "Login procedure" is performed successfully with fault reader V.A.G 1551/5252 => Page 01-235.

This is required if:

◆ Control unit -J104, steering angle sender -G85- or steering column are replaced.

◆ Adjustments to running gear are made within the framework of vehicle alignment.

◆ If steering wheel has been removed, perform a zero compensation in display group number 060.

◆ Lateral acceleration sender -G200- has been replaced.

◆ Brake pressure sender -G201- and/or -G214- have been replaced.

◆ When there is a fault entry in control unit -J104- fault memory and the fault table requires zeroing to be performed.
