As Mayor Stone’s consultant, students are asked to weigh evidence to analyze the strengths and weaknesses of two policy initiatives: Mayor Stone’s initiative to reduce crime by increasing the number of police officers, and Dr. Eager’s, his opponent, plan to implement the Strive drug treatment program. Explain your reasoning referring explicitly to the documents, and not your personal values, and evaluating in your analysis these particular claims: 1. Dr. Eager claims that more police will only lead to more crime. (document E). 2. Dr. Eager argues that money for police should go instead to the Strive drug treatment program. 3. Dr. Eager claims that reducing addicts will lower crime rates (C and F).
