COMFORT

The manual driver’s seat height adjust-ment and recliner controls are locatedon the left side of the seat cushion.Raise the Seat• Ratchet the height adjustment lever

(A) upward until reaching the desiredheight.

Lower the Seat• Ratchet the lever downward until

reaching the preferred height.Recline the Seatback• Lift the recliner lever (B) and then

move the seatback to the desiredposition. Release the lever to lock the seatback in place.

The six-way power driver’s seat controlis located on the outboard side of theseat. The seat cushion can be raised,lowered, and moved forward or rearwardby moving this control in the desireddirection.See Section 1 of your Owner Manual.

Six-Way Power Driver’s Seat (if equipped)

The driver’s seat lumbar control is locatedon the front-right side of the seat cushion.Adjust Lumbar Support• When seated, turn the control knob

clockwise or counterclockwise toincrease or decrease lumbar support.

Driver’s Seat Lumbar Support(if equipped)

Heated Seats (if equipped)

This feature allows you to heat the driv-er and/or front-passenger seat. The controls are located below the climatecontrol system on the instrument panelcenter stack. The heated seat operationis cancelled each time the ignition isturned off. Turn On the Heated Seat(s)• Press the switch once to select the

high heat setting. Two indicator lightswill illuminate.

• Press the switch twice for the low set-ting. One indicator light will illuminate.

• Press the switch a third time to turnoff the heated seats.

Setting the Time1. Press the clock button, located on the

right side of the radio. The clock sym-bol will appear on the display and thehour number will flash.

2. Turn the ADJ knob to set the hour.3. Repeat the above steps to set the

minutes.

Radio Controls(Power): Press this button to turn

your audio system on and off.(Volume): Turn the power button’s

outer ring to increase or decrease volume.AUTO X (Automatic Volume): Use thiscontrol to automatically adjust audio system volume to make up for wind androad noise as you drive.DISP: When using the Radio DataSystem (RDS), press the DISP button to display various information, includingstation name, RDS station frequency,Program Type (PTY), and the name ofthe program, if available.

Climate Controls

(Air Conditioning): Press this but-ton to turn the air conditioning systemon or off. A light indicates that the airconditioning is activated.

(Recirculation): Press this buttonto recirculate cabin air through the vehi-cle. A light indicates that the air is beingrecirculated. This feature can be used toprevent outside air and odors fromentering your vehicle or to help heat orcool the air inside your vehicle morequickly.

(Defog): This mode directs air tothe windshield, side window outlets andfloor outlets.

(Defrost): This mode directs mostof the air to the windshield and some airto the side window outlets.When the defog or defrost mode isselected, the system automatically turnsoff the recirculation mode because out-side air is needed to remove interiormoisture from the vehicle.

(Rear Window Defogger): Pressthis button to activate the rear windowdefogger. It will shut off automatically.See Section 3 of your Owner Manual.

AM/FM: Press this button to switch toFM1, FM2 or AM.XM/AUX: Press this button to switch toXM1 or XM2 (if equipped).ADJ (Adjust): Turn this knob to selectradio stations.

: Press this button’s right orleft arrow to go to the next or previousstation and stay there. To scan radio sta-tions, press and hold either arrow for twoseconds until you hear a beep. Presseither arrow again to stop scanning.Presetting Radio StationsYou can preset up to 30 radio stations(six FM1, six FM2, six AM, six XM1 andsix XM2) by using the radio’s six num-bered buttons.Preset a radio station1. Tune in a desired station.2. Press and hold one of the six num-

bered buttons until you hear a beep.3. Repeat the steps for each button.

CD Player Controls(Reverse): Press and hold this

button to reverse quickly within a track.(Fast Forward): Press and hold

this button to advance quickly within atrack.

RPT (Repeat): Press this button to heara track over again. Press the buttonagain to turn off repeat play.RDM (Random): Press this button tohear the tracks in random order. Pressthe button again to turn off random play.

: Press this button’s left arrowto go to the start of the current track.Press the button again to continue moving backward through the CD.

: Press this button’s right arrowto go to the start of the next track. Pressit again to continue moving forwardthrough the CD.If either arrow is held for more than twoseconds, the player will enter the scanmode and will play the first 10 secondsof each track. Press either arrow to stopscanning.DISP (Display): Press this button to seehow long the current track has beenplaying.EQ (Equalization): Press this button toselect the desired equalization settingwhile playing a CD. The setting will beautomatically recalled whenever a CD isplayed.AM/FM: Press this button while a CD isplaying to listen to the radio.XM/AUX: Press this button while a CD isplaying to listen to XM (if equipped).CD: Press this button when listening tothe radio to play a CD.

If your AM/FM stereo with CD has MP3playing capability, a CD-R or CD-RWcontaining MP3 audio tracks will playautomatically when inserted into the CDplayer. An MP3 symbol will be displayed.Refer to your Owner Manual for com-plete MP3 Player features informationand operating instructions.See Section 3 of your Owner Manual.

MP3 Player (if equipped)

The six-disc CD changer can hold up tosix CDs. To load one CD or multipleCDs, follow the steps below.Load One CD1. Turn the ignition on.2. Press and release the LOAD button.3. After INSERT CD flashes on the

display, insert a CD partway into theslot, label side up. The player will pullin the CD. The CD will begin to playautomatically, whether your radio ison or off.

Load Multiple CDs1. Turn the ignition on.2. Press and hold the LOAD button for

two seconds.3. After INSERT CD and the number

appear on the display, insert a CDpartway into the slot, label side up.The player will pull in the CD.

4. Once INSERT CD and the numberappear again on the display, loadanother CD. When finished loading,press the LOAD button to cancelloading operation. The player willbegin to play the last CD loaded.

Multiple-Disc CD Changer (if equipped)

For Random mode operation options,please see Section 3 of your OwnerManual.

(Eject): Press this button to eject asingle CD. To eject multiple CDs, pressand hold this button until a beep soundsand EJECTING ALL CDs appears in thedisplay.

Note: CDs with any affixed labels mayjam in the CD player. Label a CD usinga permanent marker. If more than oneCD is inserted into the slot at one time,or if scratched or damaged CDs areplayed, the CD player could be dam-aged. When using the CD player, useonly CDs in good condition withoutlabels; load one CD at a time; and keepthe CD player and the loading slot freeof foreign materials, liquids and debris.

SEEK: When playing the radio, pressthis button’s up or down arrow to go tothe next or previous radio station andstay there. When playing a CD, pressthe up or down arrow to go to the nextor previous track.BAND: Press this button to switch toFM1, FM2; AM; or XM1 and XM2 (ifequipped).1–6 (Preset Pushbuttons): When play-ing the radio, press this button to go to apreset radio station. When playing a CDin the six-disc CD changer, press thisbutton to go to the next CD (if multipleCDs are loaded).

(Volume): Press this button’s upor down arrow to increase or decreasevolume.

(Mute): Press this button to silencethe audio system. Press it again (or anyother radio button) to turn the soundback on. The windshield wipers on your Equinoxare controlled by a single lever locatedon the right side of your steering col-umn. The lever operates both the frontwindshield wipers and washer and therear wiper and washer.The front wiper/washer system providesyou with the following settings:MIST (Mist): Pull the lever down andrelease it for a single wiping cycle. Foradditional cycles, hold the lever downbefore releasing it.OFF (Off): Move the lever to this posi-tion to turn off your wipers.INT (Intermittent): Place the lever inthis position to set a delay betweenwipes. The Intermittent position allowsyou to choose the amount of timebetween wipes by rotating the dialmarked with the large arrow (A) to oneof the following settings:1 – Long delays between wipes.2 – Medium delays between wipes.3 – Short delays between wipes.LO (Low Speed): Move the lever to thisposition for slow, steady wiping cycles.HI (High Speed): Move the lever to thisposition for rapid wiping cycles.

Windshield Wipers and Washer

This feature allows you to lock or unlockyour vehicle’s doors from approximately26 feet away.

(Lock): Press this button to lock thedoors.

(Unlock): Press this button once tounlock the driver’s door. Press the but-ton again within five seconds to unlockall doors.

(Panic Alarm): Press this button tosound the panic alarm when the ignitionis turned off. The horn will sound and theparking lamps and dome lamps will flashfor up to two minutes. Press the buttonagain to silence the panic alarm when itis sounding.See Section 2 of your Owner Manual.

(Washer Fluid): Pull the windshieldwiper lever toward you to spray washerfluid onto the windshield. The wipers willcycle several times to clear the wind-shield. For additional wash cycles, sim-ply pull the lever toward you and hold it.See Section 3 of your Owner Manual.

Your rear wiper and washer are con-trolled by the same lever used for thefront wiper system. You can choose fromthree wiper settings by turning the bandon the inner portion of the lever, closerto the steering column (A).

(Off): Turn the band to this positionto turn off the wiper.

(On): Place the band in this positionfor continuous operation with a delaybetween wipes.

(Wash): Rotate the band to thisposition to spray a stream of washerfluid onto the rear window. It will contin-ue to provide fluid until you release theband. When you select this position, thewipers will automatically start and stayon until you rotate the band to the Offposition.See Section 3 of your Owner Manual.

Rear Wiper and Washer

The cruise control buttons are locatedon the steering wheel.

(On/Off): Press this button to turnthe cruise control system on and off. + RES (Resume): Press this button toresume a set speed, or to increase theset speed if the system is engaged.If cruise control has been deactivated formore than 60 seconds, the set speedwill be erased.– SET (Set): Press this button to set aspeed, or to decrease the set speed ifthe system is engaged.When the cruise control is engaged, thecruise control symbol will illuminate inthe instrument cluster.See Section 3 of your Owner Manual.

An ashtray and lighter accessory kit isavailable from your dealership.

Ashtray and Lighter Kit (if equipped)

The dome lamps control, located on thefront passenger dome lamp housing,controls both the front and rear lamps.The following settings are available:

(Off): Place the switch in this posi-tion to turn off the dome lamps.

(Door): Place the switch in this posi-tion to have the dome lamps illuminateautomatically when a door is opened.

(On): Place the switch in this posi-tion to turn on the dome lamps.See Section 3 of your Owner Manual.

Dome Lamps

The center console between the frontseats features cupholders and a foldingarmrest/storage bin. To access the stor-age bin, pull up the lever on the front ofthe console. Lift up the entire foldingarmrest/storage bin for additional stor-age space for items such as CDs.

Cupholders

A pair of cupholders are located in thefront portion of the center console (A)and an additional pair of cupholders arelocated in the rear of the console (B).There is also one cupholder under thefolding armrest/storage bin.

The sunroof controls are located on the headliner above your rearview mirror. The ignition key must be in theRun or Accessory position to operatethis feature.Vent the Sunroof• With the sunroof closed, pull down on

the front of the switch. The sunroofwill open to the vent position. Push upon the front of the switch to close it.

Open the Sunroof• With the sunroof closed, pull the

switch rearward past the detent andrelease it. The sunroof will express-open automatically. Press the switchrearward again to stop the sunroof.

Close the Sunroof• Press and hold the switch forward.

The sunroof will close only when theswitch is being pressed.

Sunroof (if equipped)

Note: In the closed position, the sunroofmay not appear parallel with the vehicleheadliner.

The front passenger seatback can befolded flat, allowing you to carry extra-long cargo, such as skis, lumber, or aneight-foot ladder.The back of the seat has a durable plas-tic surface that can be used as a deskor table when the vehicle is stationary.Fold the Seatback Forward1. Lift the release bar located under the

front of the seat cushion.2. Slide the seat completely rearward;

then release the bar.3. Push and pull on the seat to ensure it

is locked in place.4. Lift the recliner lever located on the

right side of the seat cushion fullyupward and fold the seatback forwarduntil it locks in the folded position.

5. Pull up on the seat to ensure it islocked in place.

Your vehicle’s rear seatbacks can foldforward to provide additional cargospace. The seatbacks also include tworecline positions for greater passengercomfort. In addition, the seat can travelnearly eight inches — two inches for-ward and six inches backward.

Fold the Seatback(s) Down

1. Lift the lever located on top of theseatback.

2. Tilt the seatback forward and down.

MultiFlex™ Split-Folding andSliding Rear Seat

Recline the Seatback(s)1. Lift and hold the lever located on top

of the seatback.2. Tilt the seatback rearward; then

release the lever when the seatbackis in the desired position.

Slide the Seat Forward or Rearward

1. Lift the release bar located under thefront of the seat cushion to unlock theseat.

2. Slide the seat to the desired position;then release the bar.

3. Try to move the seat forward and back-ward to ensure it is locked in place.

Note: Before folding or reclining theseatback(s), ensure that all three rearsafety belts are unbuckled and that thefront seatbacks are not reclined.

Return the Seatback to an UprightPosition1. Lift the recliner lever upward; then

use your other hand to raise the seat-back to an upright position.

2. Push and pull on the seatback toensure it is locked in place.

Your vehicle is equipped with LATCHanchors, and may have top tethers foruse with a LATCH compatible childrestraint. If your child restraint is notcompatible with the LATCH system, youmay still use it by installing the childrestraint with the seat belt system.Choose a child seat that is appropriatefor the child’s age and size (weight and height).See Section 1 of your Owner Manual.

Child Restraints (LATCH)

This feature serves as an adjustablecargo panel or as a security cover whenplaced in the upper level position.The cargo panel is carpeted on one sideand has a recessed plastic surface onthe other — a convenient feature whencarrying wet or dirty cargo. The panelincludes four hooks for securing grocerybags and has a swing-down leg thatallows the panel to be used as a table.Four Cargo Panel PositionsThe cargo panel can be placed in one offour positions: Upper, Center, Lower anda Table position.

Multifunction Cargo Panel/Security Cover (if equipped)

Upper, Center and Lower Positions1. Insert the panel’s rubber knobs into

either the upper, center or lowerguides and slide the panel forward.

2. Press down on the back of the panelto lock it in place.

Setting Up the Table

1. Insert the panel’s rubber knobs intothe rear of the upper guides.

2. Tilt the panel upward.3. Unsnap the table leg from the panel;

then rotate the leg outward.4. While lowering the panel, guide the

leg onto the striker plate located onthe lower trim molding of the vehicle.

5. Be sure that the leg is secure.

Note: The table can only be used in theupper level position. The table can holda maximum of 100 pounds. Placing hotitems on the table surface could dam-age it. Be sure items placed on thetable are of moderate temperature.Always have the panel in the storedposition when you are driving; other-wise, vehicle damage may occur.

The roof rack cross-rails can be securedin four positions along the roof rack siderails. It’s best to have a person on eachside of the vehicle to move each cross-rail simultaneously.Reposition the Cross-Rails:1. Lift the end cap levers to release

the rail.

2. Move the cross-rail so it aligns withthe desired side rail hole.

3. Push down the end cap levers.

Roof Rack Cross-Rails (if equipped)

4. Slide the cross-rails slightly back andforth until the lock pins fully engagethe holes. An audible click will beheard. The end cap levers will notfully seat until the lock pins engagethe side rail holes completely.

5. Try sliding the cross-rails to verifythey’re secure and the end cap leversstay tight.

When not using the roof rack, move thecross-rails to the farthest rearward posi-tion to help reduce wind noise.See Section 2 of your Owner Manual.

Your vehicle may be equipped with an“on-demand” All-Wheel Drive (AWD)system. The system has no buttons orcontrols, as it is completely automatic.There may be a slight engagementsound or feel when the system engages,but this is normal.See Section 4 of your Owner Manual.

All-Wheel Drive System (if equipped)

This feature limits wheelspin on slipperysurfaces. The system activates automat-ically whenever you start your vehicleand should be left on at all times. Whenthe system is operating, a TractionControl light will illuminate in the instru-ment panel. You may also hear or feelthe system working. This is normal.If your vehicle becomes stuck and it isnecessary to “rock” the vehicle in orderto free it, you can temporarily turn off thesystem by pressing the traction controlbutton located above the audio systemon the instrument panel.

Traction Control (Front-wheeldrive models only)

Your vehicle’s electronically controlledautomatic transmission is equipped witha control system that reduces excessivetransmission shifting while traveling onhilly, winding roads.The transmission will not upshift to ahigher gear if that gear cannot maintainspeed on the grade. If you completely lift off the accelerator pedal and thetransmission does not upshift on a steep grade, it is normal — the comput-er is preventing unnecessary shifting.After reaching the top of the hill, the normal gearshift schedule will resumeoperation.See Section 2 of your Owner Manual.

Your vehicle has a battery saver featurethat will automatically turn off interiorlamps and the radio after a predeter-mined period of time with the ignition off.The battery rundown protection does notapply to the accessory power outlets(APO). Any device that is plugged intoan APO with the ignition off will dis-charge power from the battery. Alldevices should be disconnected from an APO when leaving the vehicle.See Section 3 of your Owner Manual.

Battery Rundown Protection

Your vehicle is equipped with an On-Board Diagnostics System (OBD II)that monitors the fuel, ignition and emis-sion systems. OBD II helps ensure thatyour vehicle’s emissions remain atacceptable levels. If a problem requiringservice occurs, a “Check Engine” light will illuminate in the instrument cluster.If the Malfunction Indicator Lamp isflashing:• When it is safe to do so, stop the

vehicle and turn the engine off.• Wait 10 seconds and restart the

engine.If the light remains on steadily, see thesteps below. If the light continues flash-ing, follow the previous steps and seeyour dealer for service as soon as possible.If the Malfunction Indicator Lampremains on:• And you have recently refueled your

vehicle, remove and then reinstall thefuel cap, making sure that it is tight (itwill make a ratcheting sound).

• A few driving trips with the cap prop-erly attached should turn the light offautomatically.

Malfunction Indicator Lamp(Check Engine Light)

In general, cleaning the entire seatpanel is recommended, starting from theseams and moving into the stain toavoid a ring effect after drying.For the sport cloth fabric seats, in mostinstances, mild soapy water and a cleanwhite cloth will remove spills and spots.For oil and grease spots, sprinkle bakingsoda on the spot, and then brush andwipe with a clean white cloth.
