Author Profile

The brother-and-sister duo of Charles and Mary Lamb belonged to a literary circle of early-19th-century London that included Wordsworth and Coleridge. Their chief fame resides in their collaborative effort, Tales from Shakespeare, in addition to Charles’ renown as an essayist. Both suffered from periodic bouts of mental illness, and each devotedly nursed the other through difficult times.
