Perfect Embroidery Pro TrainingHow to Select a Hoop

1. Click on the Hoop icon .

2. In the Find Window, type in your machine manufacturer to show the hoops for your machine.

3. Click OK.

4. To deselect a hoop, click back on the hoop icon again and the hoop will no longer appear. A hoop is not necessary to design, however, it is always best to digitize in the size that you plan on embroidering the design. The Perfect Embroidery Pro will resize, but you will make different stitch selections in a large design than for a small design.

Importing a design

1. Click on the Library Tab at the bottom right corner of the screen.

2. Designs that are built into the software and the free designs of the month will be in this area. If you want your other embroidery designs in this folder, move them into the Dime folder in the Designs subfolder on the C drive.

3. To insert a design, left mouse click on the design and drag the design into the window. Release the mouse when the design is in the design page. NOTE: designs from the library come in grouped.

4. For this exercise, locate the Perfect Embroidery Pro Free Designs folder and left click on it.


5. Click on the Coffee mug and drag it into the design window.

Changing the colors in a design.

1. Click on the Sequence Tab at the bottom right of the window.

2. Right mouse click on the design and choose Ungroup.

3. In the Sequence window, left click on the segment that you would like to change. For this exercise, click on the first yellow segment.

4. Right mouse click on the green color tile at the bottom of the window.


5. Change any colors that you desire in the same manner.

6. If you want to convert the color palette to a different thread manufacturers thread palette, click on the

Change Palette icon at the bottom right of the window.

7. Choose a thread palette to convert the design colors from the Reset Brand to pull down menu and then Click OK.

8. The colors will be converted in the Sequence window.

9. To set a default color palette, click on the Tools pull down menu.

10. Choose General Options.

11. Click one Environment and then select the default color from the pull down menu and then click OK.

Setting up system defaults

1. Click on the Tools pull down menu.

2. Choose General Options.


3. On the Environment tab , you can choose between Metric and Inches. Note: You may right mouse click on the page ruler to switch between Metric and Inches.

4. Beneath that is the Default Style menu, this is your fabric type selector. Select a default fabric style if you do a lot of embroidery on a particular type garment or leave it set to Normal. It will change the style for you when you choose Click to Stitch.

5. Beneath that is the Thread Palette selector that we covered in the previous section.

6. Auto Match colors on loading will change the colors of a design that is opened into your default thread palette colors.

7. Click on the Machine tab .

8. This is where settings for your machine may be changed. The only one that is critical is the Auto split new satins. You don’t want to have a satin stitch longer than 7mm, so you will want to make sure you do not increase that number as the stitches tend to pull out.


9. Click on the Grid icon . This is where you customize your grid settings to meet your needs. Change these to meet your needs.

10. Click on the Digitizing icon . This is where you customize your drawing tools and set the default angles. When you are more advanced with your digitizing and want to control angles and entry/exit points, you can apply the advanced settings. For now I would leave all these options at the defaults.

11. Click on the View icon . These items personalize the way you view your software.


12. By default, Highlight selection is checked. If you don’t want a highlight over your embroidery when it is selected, remove that checkmark. You will still have selection handles around the selected area

13. You may also wish to enable onscreen typing.

14. Click on the Auto Baste icon . This allows you to set the distance from the design for your basting stitch, the length of the stitch and whether you want crosshairs on the basting.

15. Once you have the software customized, click OK and the settings will apply.

Opening a Design and Merging a design

1. Click on the File Open icon at the top left of the screen.

2. Navigate to the folder where your design is located.

3. Double click on the folder (or click on it and then click Open) and then double click on the design (or click on it and then click Open).

4. To add a design to the current one on the screen, click on the File pull down menu and then choose Merge.

5. Navigate to the folder where the design is located and double click on it.

6. Double click on the design. It will be on the page on top of the other design.

Note: If you are making changes to a design, it is best to Select a New Page and Merge the design(s)This keeps you from accidentally saving over the original file.


Saving a design

1. When you are ready to embroider your design, click on the File pull down menu and choose Save As:

2. Save the design as a C2S file to begin with, this will allow you to return to the file and edit it at a later date in the native format.

3. Click on the File pull down menu and choose Click2Stitch.

4. Choose the type of fabric from the pull down menu.

5. Choose whether you plan on hooping the fabric or not. (The selections available are based on the fabric selected.)

6. Click NEXT.

7. Click NEXT again to apply the settings.


8. Print or take note of the Stabilizer settings in the next window.

9. Click Finish.

10. Leave C2S as the file format and click Save.

11. From the file pull down menu, choose Save as and then chose your machine format.

12. Choose your machine format, type in a name for the design, choose the location to save the design and then click Save.


13. When you look on the screen, where the properties window is normally located, the stabilizer information will be in the window.

Entering basic text

1. Click on the New Page icon.

2. Click on the Text tool .

3. Click on the design page to activate the tool.

4. If you have enabled onscreen typing, a blinking cursor will appear and you may type directly on the screen and then left click away from the text.

5. If you did not enable an A will appear on the screen. In the Properties window, you will need to highlight the A and type in your new text and then click Apply.


6. To change the style of font, with the text still active, click on the font pull down menu in the Properties window.

7. The up and down arrow keys on your keyboard will let you scroll through the fonts and see a preview of them in the Preview window. Once you find a font, press Enter on the keyboard and then click Apply in the Properties window. Note, you may change the style of text after you type and before you click Apply if you prefer.

8. You can also click on the font preview to see all the fonts at one time. Once you find the font that you like, click OK and the font will change.

9. To change the text to a circular path, in the Properties window, click on the type pull down menu and choose Circle and then click Apply.


Using TT Fonts

1. Click on the Text tool.

2. Click on the Design page to activate the tool.

3. In the Properties window, Place a checkmark in front of TT.

4. Type your text into the text window, choose the font style and then click Apply.

5. Click on the Select tool .

6. There is another method of Using TTfonts.

7. From the File pull down menu, choose Import TT Text.

8. Type your text in the text box.

9. Click on the Browse button next to the Font.


10. Choose the Font and the Style in the Window. You may also select the size.

11. Click OK.

12. Click OK again.

13. Your text will be on the design page. At this point it is artwork.

14. Right mouse click on it and choose Convert To.

15. For this exercise, choose Complex Fill. (You may choose any of the options)

16. In the Properties window, click on the Transform tab .

17. Change the Height of the letter to 4 in (100mm) and then click Apply.

18. Click on the Fill Tab .


19. Change the Fill type to Motif and then Click Apply.

20. Select a Motif from the pull down menu and then click Apply.

21. You may choose any of the stitch types.

Micro Fonts

Fonts with in front of them are micro fonts. These are digitized for 3-6mm (.12-.24 in) lettering. They work the same as other letters, but you don’t change any of the stitch properties. Use 60wt thread and a small needle to embroider for perfection.

Text Designs

1. Click on the Text Designs icon . Do not click on the down arrow.


2. Scroll through and double click on a design. For this exercise, select the ladybug.

3. It will appear on the design page.

4. In the Properties window, click on the Transform tab .

5. Change the Height of the design to 2 in and click Apply.

6. Click on the Circle Template tool . Do not click on the down arrow next to it at this time, there

are other options under the tool.

7. This will arrange the design around a circle and can create fun frames for text.

8. Change the Width of the circle to 150mm, change the angle of the Individual Path Settings to 270 (degree of rotation), place a checkmark in front of Auto resequence by color (this color sorts) and then click Apply.

9. Click OK.

10. Click on the Hoop icon and choose the Brother 200 x200 mm hoop or a 200 mm and wider hoop for your brand of machine and then click OK. Notice that the design is a little too large for the hoop.


11. Select the arrow under the hoop icon and choose Auto Fit. The design will now fit into the hoop.

Monograms

1. Click on the New page icon .

2. Turn off the hoop by clicking on the hoop icon .

3. Click on the Monogram tool .

4. Click on the Design page to activate the tool. If you have onscreen typing active, you may type directly on the screen and then left click away from the text, if not, type in your three letter monogram in the Properties window, in the Text box and then click Apply.

5. The last font style that you used will be applied to the monogram. If you are following the lessons in order, that will be a micro font.

6. In the Properties window, click on the Font pull down menu and locate a font for your monogram. Fonts with a green M in front of them are fonts made for monogramming and have decorations that may be added to them. For this exercise, choose .

7. The Décor box beneath the fonts will become active when a font is selected.

8. Click on the down arrow next to it to see the available decors for that font. Different fonts will have different decors.


9. Left mouse click on a décor to select the décor and then click Apply.

10. The other fonts without the may be used for Monograms as well. The décor will not be available. However, there are Monogram designs we can add instead. From the Font pull down menu, choose another font this time without the . For this exercise, select Monogram and then click apply.

11. Click on the Monogram designs icon . and then choose Monogram Designs.

12. Scroll through the monogram designs and then double click on one to insert it onto the design page.


13. Select All by holding down the Control key on the keyboard with the A key and then click the

Center Align icon .

14. The monogram is a little large for the design and needs to be resized. Click off the design and then back on the lettering. In the properties window, change the height of the lettering to 1.0 and then click Apply.

15. Select all again and then click the Center Align icon .

16. There are also fonts with decorations built around them. These are perfect for single initials.

Click on the New page icon .

17. Click on the Monogram tool and then click on the design page to activate the tool.

18. Type in a single letter monogram in the Properties window.

19. From the Font pull down menu, choose a font with the word Mono and a number behind it and left mouse click.

Creating Appliques


2. Click on the Text designs down arrow . and then choose Applique shapes.

3. Double click on a shape (or click on it and then click OK). It will appear on the design page as an applique ready to embroider.


5. If you want to create an applique that is not in the Applique shapes list, you may either draw it with

the drawing tools, or use one of the motif shapes. Click on the Text designs down arrow . and then choose Motif Shapes.


6. Double click on a shape to place it on the design page.

7. Right mouse click on the shape and choose Convert to and then select Applique. The applique will have been created.

8. Save the design in the C2S format and in your embroidery format.

9. If you wish to save a cutting file for a digital cutting machine, from the file pull down menu, choose Save as and save in the format for your cutting machine.

Applique Lettering

1. Applique lettering may be accomplished with TTfonts.


3. Click on the Text tool .

4. Click on the design page to activate the tool.


5. Type in the text in the Properties window. Place a checkmark in front of TT.

6. From the font pull down menu, choose a font.

7. Change the Height of the letters to 2.0 in.

8. Click Apply.

9. Click on the Select tool .

10. Right mouse click on the lettering and choose Break up text.

.

11. Right mouse click again and choose Convert to and then choose Applique.

12. Your applique lettering will have been created.


Alternate Method of creating Applique Lettering

Sometimes when you convert TT fonts selected in the Properties window the applique doesn’t apply correctly.If this occurs, there is an alternate method to create applique lettering.

1. From the File pull down menu, choose Import TT Text.

2. In the Text box, type in the desired text.

3. Click on the Browse button next to the current font style.

4. Select a font from the pull down menu and then click OK.

5. Click OK again. The lettering will appear on the screen as artwork.

6. Pull it from one of the corners to resize the lettering. (Bigger is better with Applique Lettering.)

7. Right mouse click on the image and choose Convert to and then Applique.

Semi-Auto Digitizing

1. Click on the Auto Digitizing icon .

2. Click on the Browse button to browse for an image file.

3. In the Look in drop down menu, click on C:\Dime\Images\Bitmaps. For this exercise, change the file type to jpeg. You can use other file types, this is just the image we selected.

4. Select butterfly 7.jpg and then click Open.

5. Change the output to artwork and then click NEXT. This changes the scanned artwork into a computer generated artwork file.

6. Choose the size for your design. For this exercise, you may leave it at the default and click NEXT.

7. If you need to edit the image, click on the Edit tab this will open up the image in MS Paint. This image doesn’t need editing, so click Finish.

8. You now have artwork to change into stitches.


9. The entire image should have black handles around it. Right mouse click and choose Convert to and then choose Complex fill. The entire design will have embroidery stitches and all areas will be considered a fill stitch.

10. If you want to change stitch types, in the sequence view, expand the color you with to adjust. For this exercise, click on the black segment.

11. To change all the black colors from a complex fill to a satin fill, stitch, click on the segment in the Sequence window and then in the Properties window, select Satin and click Apply.

12. That technique works well with everything except the outline. In the sequence window, click on the plus sign next to the black color. The first segment is the outline stitch currently. Right mouse click on that segment and choose Convert to Satin. This will turn it into an outline than a fill area.

13. Drag that segment to embroider last in the Sequence window.

14. To get a smoother outline, right mouse click and choose Simplify. This removes some of the editing points and will smooth out the line.

15. To change the direction, in the sequence window, click on the plus sign next to the color that you want to change, click on the segment and then.

16. Click on the Shape tool and then look in the design window.

17. The yellow line with black dots on each end is the angle line. Drag one of the points to another location and then click outside the area. The angle will be changed.

18. When you have completed the design, go to the File pull down menu, and choose Save as, Save the design in the C2S format for editing later.

19. Go to the File pull down menu again, and choose Click2Stitch.

20. This brings up the recipes for fabric.


21. Choose the type fabric you are embroidering, for this design, choose Woven Med, Smooth choose Solid, Dense, Outlines since it has a fill and an outline. (Note: the options available will depend on the fabric selected.) The shape of the design should be Closed, and choose to hoop the fabric. Click Next.

22. Click Apply to apply the new settings and then click Next after the warning message.

23. Read the Recipe information and then click Finished. Name the design and click Save. Save in the C2S format to come back to edit.

24. From the file pull down menu, choose Save as and save the design in your machine format.

Digitizing with the Backdrop tool

1. Click New Page .

2. Click on the load backdrop tool .

3. Select the butterfly jpg in the Dime image files and then click OK.

4. In the Properties window, change the height to 3in and click Apply. The width will automatically adjust.


5. Click on the Artwork tool . You do not need to choose a tool with the down arrow, just click on the tool.

6. Click on the Magic Wand .

7. In the Properties window, place a checkmark in front of Fill and then click Apply.

8. Right mouse click on a color tile for the outer area of the butterfly wing.

9. Left mouse click on all the wing sections.

10. Choose a color for the green and left mouse click on the green areas.

11. Continue in this manner for all the colors.

12. Turn off the backdrop tool to see if all the colors are there. If you missed any, make note of

them, turn the backdrop tool back on and create those artwork segments.

13. Click on the Select tool and choose Select All.


14. Right mouse click and choose Convert to and choose Complex Fill.

15. If there are areas that you would rather be a Satin, you can then individual select them and change them to a different style. You can also change the directions of the fill areas individually.

16. Click the plus sign next to the color segment you wish to adjust in the Sequence window.

17. Click on the individual part to see select that segment. Below, the first segment of green is selected.

18. Click on the Shape tool . Points will appear around the area. The blue squares adjust the shape, the red and green circles adjust the entry and exit point (green enter, red exit) and the black circles are the direction line end points.


19. Click on one of the black circles and move it to change the direction of the fill area. Right mouse click away from the design and the direction change will be applied. Make the direction changes to the areas that you wish to change.

20. Click on the 3d icon to see the realistic view of the stitches.

21. If you wish to change the type of stitch for an area, select the area in the Sequence window. Right mouse click on the design and choose Convert to and then select the stitch type. For this exercise, select the black outline.

22. Right mouse click and choose Convert to and then choose Satin. This will change the stitch to follow the curve more like an outline stitch.

23. When you have finished the design, from the File pull down menu choose Save As. Save it first in the C2S format and then in your machine format.

24. From the File Pull down menu, choose Click2Stitch.


25. Choose the Fabric that you wish to embroider on, (the next options are dependent on fabric) choose whether you wish to hoop the fabric and then click Next.

26. Click Apply to Apply the settings and then click Next.

27. Click Finish and then choose your machine format to save the design. Since it will be the same design you already have, you may wish to place an indicator for the fabric style.
