PERCEPTION ABOUT COLOR

‘’RED’’

Page 2: Perception about Colour Red

Color has a huge impact on one’s emotions and perceptions. Any color doesn’t have a single color or a constant emotion attached to it. ‘Perception’ plays the major

role in this.Red, is highly visible color and is associated with variant emotions. Any color can also

have contradictory emotions attached to it, for instance, Red can display affection(Love) and Anger(Hate) both.

The Red Rose displays LOVE and it’s thorny stem displays HATE. The red chilies portrays the emotions of both HOTNESS and AGGRESSION. The entangled rope

displays the HOPE required to live life. The RED LIGHT AREA, which is demonstration of the Prostitutes area, further deepens the meaning of

associated with the lives of Prostitutes(SACRIFICE, SORROW). There is also RELEGIOUS element associated to color red. END to any process can also be

demonstrated by the disconnecting red button on phone. Bindi and the red heels depicts the FEMINISM associated with the color red. There is also POWER OF

WRITING, EXPRESSION associated with the color Red. Fire displays the process of REJUVENATION. The blooded Hand(red paint) is the depiction of SACRIFICE and

WAR. The ‘Nutties’ shot using spectacles further highlights on the childhood memories and NOSTALGIA.

To display any color it is not necessary that there should be existence of that color in the picture. Even the picture of REDBULL displays the emotions attached to color

red, that’s ENERGY and HOPE.

Nature, has more than what you see. Nature appears to be one of the most important poetic inspiration for Poets, after Love. Rose, identified as a symbol of Love. However, what I see is as a combination of Love and Hate both. The color red attached

to this flower bring in the element of Love. On the other hand, it’s thorny stem brings in the harshness attached to it, thus

referring to Hate. The Flower thereby, equipped of the contrasting emotions, Love and Hate.

Also, the Rose could be interpreted as a symbol of patriarchal attack on women. For me, the rose petals refers to the

Feminine nature of women, who have to face the harshness (thorny stem) and difficulties opposed on them due to

existence of Patriarchy in the society.

For me, the Red chilies is a representation of Hotness. It is often associated with a person who appears to be attractive. Many a times a person who looks hot is associated with the ‘teekhness’ of a red chilly.

The image also demonstrates the emotion of Aggression . Emotions can have an effect on human’s face as well. Whenever a person gets angry, his/her cheeks get Red as Chilly. Thus, associating with the Red chilies.

I have clicked the above image so as to bring the contrast between the two colors Red and White. Red color is associated with danger. Also, the color red represents blood thus directing towards danger too. However, on the other hand the color white is associated with Peace. Thus, there is a contrasting image appearing in the picture between ‘Danger’ and ‘Peace/Calmness’.

By clicking this image I wanted to put forward the element of creativity attached to the color. Visually the image seems to be catchy and depicting creativity. There is also a reference to the formation of colors from the Nature. The colors are formed from the Nature itself, thus inheriting natural traits. Similarly, by capturing the shit in such a manner I wanted to show that how the color is formed using the seeds of a natural fruit, pomegranate.

The picture of this Entangled rope is clicked during a workshop held at college. According to me the image signifies the journey of Life. Life is not easy, it has happy moments along with the sad moments. However, it is the Hope which helps you come over one’s sadness. Thus, it depicts Hope.

I also associate this ‘entangled rope’ with the living of contemporary world. People now-a-days have become too pre-occupied with the work that they have forgotten about the importance of introspection, spending time with oneself.

The ‘Red-light Area’ often refers to the Prostitutes. The motive of me clicking such an image was to bring the existence of Prostitution as a Profession(willing or forceful). Also, the ‘Redness’ signifies the sacrifice Prostitutes have to make so as to earn living for oneself or the family. Gloominess is also displays via the color red. Thus, association of Prostitutes with the Red light area also reflects their painful living.

Red color is associated with the Religion. One can see the ‘Red tikka’, Red ‘chunri’ and many more. The intention of me clicking this picture was to demonstrate the relationship between worship and fear. Many rituals are performed under the fear, and followed throughout. For example, the image represents the superstition which is followed by me.

I also associate the above image as a contrast between pure and impure. The color red, in religion is believed to be the ‘purest’ color. However, when a woman is on her periods bleeding(red) she is called impure and is not allowed to perform any religious affair. This appears to be so ironical.

Not only a visual of the color but also its writing could bring in some emotions into the image. Red Bull-’Give Wings’, according to me the Redness is symbolized with energy. As it is said, Give me Red. Energy is thereby linked with the color Red.

The ‘disconnecting’ button focuses on ‘END’. It points out the ending or stoppage of any happening or event. It also means that technology has immensely affected the lives of people. It is a boon but also turned out to be a curse for many. On one hand if technology is making the lives easier, it is also taking people away from oneself and becoming an obstacle for happy living and relationships.

The image is a representation of Feminism. The bindi reflects the over all idea of Indian Marriages. A bride mostly wearing the lehanga in color red, marries wear sindoor, bindi and many such things in color Red. There is also a juxtaposing to this that whenever a woman becomes a widow she has to shed all her ‘’redness’’ and is not allowed to wear red and is asked to wear white. Thus, again a contrasting image between Red and White is formed.

The intention of clicking the picture of the Red box of chocolates in such a manner was to reflect the idea of ‘flashback’. The ‘nutties’ somehow relates to childhood. Spectacles, providing vision, symbolizes that when one looks back and remembers his/her childhood memories, he/she feels Nostalgic. Thus, the image demonstrates Nostalgia.

During School and College one always witness the ‘Red Pen’ associating with power of writing. For me, This handwriting in red color signifies power of teaching as well as power of writing.

These Red painted Hands for me symbolizes the War. The war causes destruction to not only Environment but also to Human Lives. ‘Give me Blood!’

The image however, also represents the Celebration. Holi, for instance, it is a festival of colors. There is a representation of happiness inherited in any festival.

Thus, a contrasting image is developed between ‘war’ and ‘celebration’.

The Red Heels is a representation of Feminine aspect. It reflects the happiness a woman feels dressing up. The color also seems to be arousing.

I captured the shot in such a posture so as to demonstrate that now there are women who are stepping out of the patriarchal clutches and liberating themselves.

The burning Candle portrays that although its burning itself, physically dying but it is providing brightness to its surrounding, it is enlighten the souls. Also, It is a representation of the ongoing process of Life. Hope is also demonstrated due the lightening the red color candle is providing.
