Pepper was the fastest ferret in the forest. He loved to run, jump and climb trees. He knew them all near his home. Each tree, each branch, each flower. Pepper the ferret was also an explorer! …Pepper era el hurón más rápido del bosque. Le encantaba correr, saltar y subirse a los árboles. Los conocía a todos cerca a su casa. Cada árbol, cada rama, cada flor. Pepper el hurón ¡también era explorador!

One day, Pepper was drinking water from the river, enjoying the sun. He could see the leaves floating, moving quickly with the current. All of the sudden, a leaf became full of colors! A giant and beautiful butterfly had landed on it. “Hi ferret! My name is Olive” she said. …Un día, Pepper estaba tomando agua del río, disfrutando del sol. Podía ver las hojas flotando, moviéndose rápido con la corriente. De pronto, ¡una hoja se llenó de colores! Una mariposa gigante y bella había aterrizado en la hoja. “¡Hola hurón! Mi nombre es Olive” dijo ella. 3

“I am Pepper, nice to meet you” said the ferret. “I come from far, far away, to see the tallest tree in the world. Have you seen it?” asked the butterfly. Pepper was as surprised as curious. “I didn’t know about it until now. Could I go with you, Olive?” the ferret said. “Well, you don’t have wings, but you can walk and follow me” replied the butterfly. “Yes! When I run, I fly!” said Pepper, jumping with a happy smile. …“Soy Pepper, gusto en conocerte”, dijo el hurón. “Vengo de lejos, muy lejos, para ver el árbol más grande del mundo. ¿Lo has visto?” preguntó la mariposa. Pepper estaba tan sorprendido como curioso. “No sabía de eso hasta ahora. ¿Podría ir contigo, Olive?” dijo el hurón. “Bueno, no tienes alas, pero puedes caminar y seguirme” respondió la mariposa. “¡Sí! ¡Cuando yo corro, vuelo!” dijo Pepper, saltando con una sonrisafeliz.

The ferret and the butterfly ran and flew for three days. Then, they heard noises. “Grandpa, you can do it” said a squirrel to another one. It was a family of squirrels. “We are going to see the tallest tree in the world” Pepper told them. “So are we!” said grandpa squirrel. …El hurón y la mariposa corrieron y volaron por tres días. Entonces, oyeron ruidos. “Abuelo, puedes hacerlo” dijo una ardilla a otra. Era una familia de ardillas. “Vamos a ver el árbol más alto del mundo” Pepper les contó. ”¡Nosotros también!” dijo abuelo ardilla. 5

When grandpa squirrel was little, he heard stories about the tallest tree in the world. ”It is a type of tree called Sequoia” he explained. But he could never find it. Now, his family decided to take him to see the so very special tree. “It is an opportunity I am not going to miss!” said grandpa, with bright squirrel eyes. “We will help you and travel together” said Olive. …Cuando abuelo ardilla era chiquito, escuchó historias sobre el árbol más alto del mundo. “Es un tipo de árbol que se llama Sequoia” explicó. Pero él nunca pudo encontrarlo. Ahora, su familia decidió llevarlo a ver el árbol tan especial. “¡Es una oportunidad que no voy a perder!” dijo abuelo, con ojos de ardilla brillantes. “Les ayudaremos y viajaremos juntos” dijo Olive.

It took effort but they made it. “It is taller than I had imagined!” said the ferret, thinking about climbing the huge tree. And he wasn’t the only one. “I want to get to the top of the tree” said grandpa squirrel. And he started to climb. They all did! What an adventure. The ferret, the butterfly and the squirrels going up, up, up! .Tomó esfuerzo pero lo lograron. “¡Es más alto de lo que había imaginado!” dijo el hurón, pensando en subirse al enorme árbol. Y no era el único. “Quiero llegar a lo más alto del árbol” dijo abuelo ardilla. Y comenzó a subir. ¡Todos lo hicieron! Qué aventura. El hurón, la mariposa y las ardillas, ¡arriba, arriba, arriba! 7

But grandpa got tired soon. “Don’t worry about me, I will go back down. You keep going” he told them. There was a moment of silence. “I have an idea!” Pepper replied. “I will carry grandpa on my back. Just hold on tight, dear grandpa.” They all said thank you, and the words sounded like music. …Pero abuelo pronto se sintió cansado. “No se preocupen por mi, voy a bajar. Ustedes sigan” les dijo. Hubo un momento de silencio. “¡Tengo una idea!” contestó Pepper. “Llevaré al abuelo en mi espalda. Agárrate, querido abuelo.” Todos dijeron gracias, y las palabras sonaron como música.

Then, grandpa got thirsty. “Oh, oh, we don’t have any water” said Olive. “But he does” said baby squirrel, pointing to a mouse carrying a bottle. The mouse replied “My bottle is empty, but if you go to the lake, you can fill it with water.” Something very blue moved among the leaves. “I can go to the lake” a voice said. …Entonces, abuelo sintió sed. “Oh, oh, no tenemos agua” dijo Olive. “Pero él si tiene” dijo el bebé ardilla, señalando a un ratón con una botella. El ratón respondió “Mi botella está vacía, pero si van al lago, la pueden llenar con agua”. Algo muy azul se movió entre las hojas. “Yo puedo ir al lago” dijo una voz. 9

“Who said that?” asked mom squirrel. “I will fly down with the bottle and bring you water” a blue bird said. So she did. …“¿Quién dijo eso?” preguntó mamá ardilla. “Volaré con la botella y les traeré agua”, dijo un ave azul. Y así lo hizo.

The blue bird brought back the bottle, filled with water. “Thank you, thank you!” they all said. Grandpa drank the water and smiled. They kept climbing the tree to reach the clouds at the top. The ferret, the butterfly, the squirrels, the mouse and the blue bird, on the tallest tree, with the best friends in the world. …El ave azul les trajo la botella, llena de agua, “¡Gracias, gracias!” le dijeron todos. Abuelo bebió el agua y sonrió. Subieron el árbol hasta llegar a las nubes arriba. El hurón, la mariposa, las ardillas, el ratón y el ave azul, en el árbol más alto, con los mejores amigos del mundo. 11
