Our policy makers, starting with President Obama, must lead with a support-based reform agenda focused on creating the
learning environments and conditions in which all children will have an opportunity to learn and succeed. Dr. John H.

FACT: Market-based education reform is driven by corporations and includes profit and political or economic control
by those creating the policies in the first place.
FACT: Market-based education reform is grounded in two notions: public education should be run like a business and
public school students are future workers to be molded to fit their predetermined role in the corporate workforce.
Research shows that market-based reforms:
Reality:
Market-based education reform has hurt public education with high-stakes tests attached to untested national standards that have reduced quality and equitable instruction for all students.
Market-based education reform has drained schools and communities of much needed funding and has caused an increased in mismanagement, cheating, and stealing.
Discriminatory state and federal education policies with an over emphasis on high-stakes testing foster achievement and economic gaps based on race and class.
Educators and students of color suffer the major brunt of the negative impact market-based reform has on teaching and learning.
