OUR MISSION

Transfigura"on Catholic Church

is a Parish empowered by the Holy Spirit

to shine with the light of the Transfigured

Christ through worship, educa"on,

stewardship and outreach.

From Fr. Al Backmann, Parochial Administrator:

The power of the Spirit in our lives is the spirit of freedom. We live in

an age that seeks freedom, but everywhere we look there are people

in chains. The compulsive need to consume, produce, and achieve has

threatened our freedom. So much of our self-worth is dependent on

the abundance of our possessions. The treasure that we store up is too

o#en that which the thief steals, the moth consumes and rust destroys.

We are called to live in the freedom of total acceptance and gi#edness.

The gi#s of the Spirit are the treasures that last. These gi#s are not

products for consump"on or ar"cles that go to the highest bidder.

Rather, the Holy Spirit gives gi#s for the common good. Each personal

gi# is to be integrated with gi#s of each community member for the

praise of God. There is no need for “one-upmanship” or resentment.

All are gi#ed. In order to prevent gi#s from becoming possessions, we

must share them with others. We can do so knowing that in giving we

receive.

The power of the Spirit is the presence of peace in our hearts. The first

gi# of the risen Lord to his disciples was peace. The disciples were

locked in the grip of fear. Jesus stood in their midst as the gi# of peace

through His death and resurrec"on. The disciples needed peace so they

could carry on the mission of proclaiming the good news to the whole

world. The gi# of peace is for us as well. Through the indwelling of the

Paraclete, the risen Lord is present in our hearts. Because we experience

the peace of Christ through the Spirit we are able to be with, and for,

others. The ul"mate power of the Spirit is exercised in love. Without

love there is no life in us. The power of the Spirit is that which enables

us to love as Jesus loved, with a love that is uncondi"onal,

non-manipula"ve and which respects the freedom of others. The love

that became incarnate in Jesus is a love of service. That is the source of

our ul"mate meaning and happiness; to love as Jesus loved and to be for

others as much as we are for ourselves. It is that self-giving love that will

set us free.

May each day be one of growth in the power of that Holy Spirit.

Pray o#en, “Come Holy Spirit! Come!”

· Three boilers used to heat Church, Chapel, and Parish offices. The units are 32 years old and in constant need of parts and maintenance. They also have a very old thermostat system that does not allow for efficient climate control. Es"mated cost of replacement is $75,000.

· Window Sill Tray Repair on south-facing School windows. The windows have been leaking for many years, and we had them re-caulked last summer as a short-term solu"on. The caulking will last about one more year. Es"mated cost of replacement is $45,000.

Phil Stoffel, our Maintenance Director, is also at work on several projects that will be completed with opera"ng funds. Repairs to the parking lot, roo%op hea"ng and cooling units, and altera"ons to the flat roof to prevent ice dams next winter are all currently being addressed.

Our Second Collec"on to fund Big Ticket Capital Improvements has been a great success for our parish. Thank you to all parishioners and guests who contribute to this fund! We have collected $5,257 during the first two weeks of May, and on average, we have collected over $8,800 per month over the past twelve months. This brings the total in our savings account to $77,788 as of May 14.

This past year we completed two major projects: the replacement of the roof over the original Church building and the replacement of the hea"ng units with a new boiler in the northwest corner of the Church. Please con"nue reading for informa"on on projects in line for future Big-Ticket Capital Improvement funds.

Campus Repairs Update

We have made great progress with major repairs to our campus, but with a 32-year-old building, there are many more that will need to be addressed in the next several years. Here is a brief descrip"on of the work that we will be planning to use future Big-Ticket funds for: · Parish Rectory repairs. In prepara"on for our new pastor, we need to clean up and complete several projects at

the rectory: replace the two entry doors, install new flooring in the kitchen, replace the shower in the pastor suite, remove flooring in the basement, and clean and seal the basement floor and walls. We will also be pain"ng rooms, cleaning carpets, and replacing blinds and small furniture as needed. The Finance Council has authorized up to $10,000 to be spent on improvements to the parish rectory.

· Four cooling units and roof replacement, northeast corner of building. The units are 32 years old and beginning to fail. Es"mated cost of replacement is $115,000.

LITURGY HIGHLIGHT

All-powerful God, Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, by

water and the Holy Spirit you freed your sons and

daughters from sin and gave them new life.

Send your Holy Spirit upon them to be their helper

and guide. Give them the spirit of wisdom and

understanding, the spirit of right judgment and

courage, the spirit of knowledge and reverence.

Fill them with the spirit of wonder and awe in your

presence. We ask this through Christ our Lord.

Order of Confirma"on, 113

As I men"oned in last weekend’s bulle"n, Pentecost

Sunday, the Solemnity we celebrate this weekend, is the

Birthday of the Church. Perhaps this could be a good

medita"on for us to reflect upon in the coming weeks.

How do I, or how could I, share the gi$s and talents the

Lord has given me with my parish family, ul"mately giving

my gi$s back to the Lord?

-Has God given me musical talent, or the ability to proclaim

the Word of God to the congrega"on?

-Do I have a love for the Eucharist that would be visible

as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion?

-Do I possess organiza"onal skills, a%en"on to detail and

reverence for the Mass that would be helpful in my service

as a Sacristan or Altar Server?

-Do I possess a gi$ of hospitality that would share the light

of Christ with all those I encounter?

Thank you for considering your gi$ to the Lord, as we

conclude the great Season of Easter. Please contact

Shantel to join any one of our Liturgical Ministries, or

Mary Demko if you are interested in joining the choir.

This year will be Transfigura"on’s fi$h summer hos"ng

Totus Tuus for youth. The past four years have provided a

returning par"cipants!

All youth are invited to join us for an exci"ng, week-

long, faith filled, summer camp experience. Preschool-

9:00 a.m.-2:30 p.m. 7th-12th grade meets Sunday to

Thursday, June 24-28 from 7:30 – 9:30 p.m.

The goal of Totus Tuus is to help young people develop

their rela"onship with Jesus Christ and immerse them in

a rich experience of what it means to be Catholic.

The week includes a parish-wide potluck picnic on

Wednesday, junior high & high school Fun Night on
