Happy March everyone!
It looks like the weather is starting to clear up a little and soon we will be riding our toys.
Well folks, looks like your CD learned a lesson this year. As most of you know, I had carpal
tunnel surgery right after Thanksgiving and I managed to sneak a ride in the Friday before
turkey day. Well the bike has been parked since then and I only managed to get a quick start
out of it last month. I have been planning on taking it to my shop and doing some much
needed maintenance on it. Well, I had been watching the rear tire slooowwly losing air and
going flat for a while. But I figured I still had time. Well, I arrived home about ¼ till 1am.
the other day from work, opened the door and there she was laying on the guards. For those
who don’t know, this bike has a kickstand extension and I installed a car tire last year. Well,
with the combination of the stand extension keeping the bike almost vertical and the shorter
rear tire, combined with the slight hump in the floor it was a recipe for disaster. And I baked
it! So, if you don’t already, make sure you store your baby on its center stand and I think I
am going to lose that extension this year, it has been a pain trying to park that bike since I
bought it. Tom D. If you would like to add the pitfalls of the side stand for storage in one of
your safety talks…. Well. Be my guest. Lol You can use my story as an example of what
NOT to do! HAHA! I finally got to sit on the bike since November, it felt great sliding onto
the seat and firing her up. I can’t wait till the weather clears and get out there on the roads. I
did notice that I didn’t have any pain when pulling the brake or clutch, I hope it is a good
sign for travelling this year.
So about the rally.
If you are going to attend the Rally, please make sure you have your rally registrations
turned in before March 31st. as the cost will increase after that.
We have some volunteers signed up to help with the rally and we will still need some more
helpers if you can spare the time. Let us know when you are available. Right now, we will
need some people to help in the mornings with the hospitality suite. I still do not have a
schedule yet for the classes and events. We hope we have enough leaders and tail gunners,
but we might need a couple more, depending on how many people sign up for the rides.

Hi Friends!
They say the first sign of spring is daffodils, but we know better…it’s motorcycles! As I write
this it is currently 72 degrees in mid-February. I saw a few dozen bikes out and about today,
a sure sign that riding season is soon upon us. A few folks from the chapter were out on rides
today, surely just to make me jealous.
Please folks, when you are out on the bikes in the next few weeks, keep an extra eye out for
gravel and the ubiquitous Pennsylvania Pothole. Some of the ones I’ve seen should be
classified as sinkholes instead. I’m absolutely convinced to hit one of them at would damage
the bike at least and cause a catastrophic fall at worst. Please be especially careful at night or
after a rain when they are harder to see.
Another thing that we’re going to start seeing more of in the next month is animals, both
domestic and wild. Wild animals become more active as the weather warms and the dogs that
have been inside all winter are going to be out on leashes and in yards. And naturally, people
are going to wake up from winter hibernation as well. Be aware of bicyclists, joggers, and
kids who might be looking for cars but won’t see our bikes. I’ve heard of folks teaching their
young children and grandchildren to count motorcycles while on car rides. That way they
grow up becoming aware of them.
I’d like to thank everyone for participating in the Quarter Game at the dinner rides. It’s turned
in to a fun addition to the dinner! The last few winners were Becca, Pap, and Joanie. The
Buck A Ride is gaining some momentum as well. Our first winner was Sam G. with $50.00.
We’ll have another drawing at the gathering but remember, to win you need to be present.
I personally despise winter, that’s why I have a bike and not a snowmobile. One of the few
things that have made this winter bearable for me is knowing that I get to spend some time
each week with my friends. I truly look forward to seeing you folks at the dinner rides and
gathering. I can hardly wait until I get to hit the road with you this riding season. We’ve got
a busy summer this year folks, let’s get to putting some miles on our machines!
And remember, when life throws you a curve, lean into it!

Hello everyone!
Let’s talk about the GWRRA’s Rider Education Program. There’s a lot of information to share, so we are going to break the conversation into two
parts. This month, we’ll cover the purpose of the program as well as Level I and Level II. In April, we’ll chat about moving up to Level III and Level IV of the REP. The following information is taken from the GWRRA website.
Purpose
The GWRRA Rider Education Program (REP) is intended to make the motorcycle environment safer by reducing injuries and fatalities and increasing motorcyclist skills and awareness.
The REP does not propose to have all the answers. However, our
close working relationship with the Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF), as well as additional GWRRA programs and studies, has provided a wealth of information for use in establishing a comprehensive Rider Education Program. Through Commitment, Education and Application, we can reduce our accident rate significantly.
Listed below are several benefits of a fully implemented GWRRA Rider Education Program at the Chapter level:
• Increased rider knowledge
• Increased rider safety skills
• Prevention of accidents
• Reduced injuries
• Reduced fatalities
• Improved general public image of motorcyclists
• Enhanced enjoyment of motorcycle riding
The motorcycle community is already realizing many positive benefits from the GWRRA Rider Education Program. Through the efforts of the Rider Education Officers and participation of the membership and others, we will reach our goal of establishing the safest motorcycle environment possible.
Level I: Safety by Commitment - The first big step to success
DISTRICT SAFETY
ARTICLE
Level I of the Rider Education Program is also referred to as Safe Miles. It represents the commitment of the Rider and/or the Co-Rider to practice safe motorcycle operation whenever they operate their motorcycle.
Safety is a state of mind which can only be attained through total commitment. Every successful accomplishment begins with a commitment to reach the intended objective. This is true of the Rider Education Program and includes a promise to learn for the sake of
Rider, Co-Rider, friends and family, and others on the road.
Though there is no mileage requirement to enter Level I, the commitment
to safe riding is tracked by the number of accident free miles since joining GWRRA. Accident free miles are accumulated in 5,000 mile increments and may be updated at yearly intervals.
Requirement: Verbal commitment to ride safely at all times.
No cost to sign up.
Patches available at $6.00 per participant.
Receive: "Safe Miles" patch, Rider (or Co-rider) Rocker, and mileage pin.
Level II: Safety by Education
Level II of the REP is also referred to as Tour Rider. It represents the commitment of the Rider and/or Co-Rider to be safer motorcycle riders by taking approved motorcycle riding courses at regular intervals.
GWRRA has chosen several educational training programs
for the Riders and Co-Riders such as the MSF (Motorcycle Safety Foundation) programs, the United Sidecar Association course, the CSC (Canadian Safety Council)
programs, and the GWRRA's Advanced Riding courses.
Completing these courses provides the foundation and skills for your quest to be a safe motorcycle rider. All recognized programs are taught by qualified and nationally-certified instructors.
For the Co-Rider, we have provided an excellent seminar and "Two
Up" programs to assist in their role in the safety aspect of motorcycle riding.
Motorcycle education goes "hand in hand" with commitment. The "on bike" education by MSF, USCA, CSC, and GWRRA for the Rider and Co-Rider and the "off bike" education designed specifically for the Co-Rider, provide a very effective approach to motorcycle safety. This is
when a REP participant truly begins to understand what the Level I commitment means and sees the value in the program.
Requirement: Rider - a Certified Rider Course with 5,000 safe miles. Co-Rider - certified Co-rider Seminar or 2-up Rider Course.
No cost to sign up.
Patches available at $5.00 per participant
Receive: "Red Triangle" patch for either Rider or Co-rider signifying Level II participant.

Please think about submitting any trip articles about any motorcycle trips you have taken
for publication in the website. We would love to share your experience with the others in
the chapter. If you don't have pictures that's okay, we'll be glad to post a story without them.
Don’t worry about perfect grammar or syntax either, it's better to communicate the story
than to have a perfectly written script that doesn’t sound like the author. Any spelling and
small errors can be cleared up at the time its put in the website.
So, don’t hesitate, share your story with your fellow chapter members. If you need any
help, feel free to call or email me for any assistance. Also, not that I'm a computer guru, but
if you have any problems accessing or using the website, I'll be more than happy to help
where I can.

WE’RE MOVING!!

Well it’s been a crazy winter. We have had some snow, some really cold
weather, rain and a few really nice days in between. I haven’t heard of much
riding going on yet this year, although that 78 degree day, I heard a rumor a
couple of our members went on a 300+ mile ride. I got a few miles in that day
also and it was good to get some wind therapy. It looks as if we have some nice
days coming up, so maybe we can get this old gas out of our bikes and some
new in.
A little birdie told me we have some poets among us. Thanks everyone who
participated. Remember, if anyone has any ideas how to make our gatherings
more fun, please let Suzanne or I know.
Due to Easter Sunday falling on April 1st, our Gathering will be on April 8th.
Let’s have an Easter Parade. All the guys and gals need to show up to the
Gathering wearing their best “Easter Bonnet”. Prizes awarded to whom the
membership vote the best and there will be more than one category. Let’s get
creative and have fun.
Let all hope for good weather this month so we can get the bikes and trikes out
and put some miles on them. And the Dairy Queens usually open in March as
well….LOL.

Hopefully you have had a chance to see and sit on the 2018 Goldwing. Most dealers have had the new wing in their showrooms however, the motorcycle is selling quickly. Maybe you are one of the luck ones that have a new wing in your garage. It is almost time to get those great machines back out of storage. Remember to do all the maintenance that you have learned about over the years, it will payoff on the long ride. It won’t be long before we will see you at a chapter gathering, event or on the road. A lady about eight months pregnant got on a bus. She noticed the man opposite her was smiling at her.
She immediately moved to another seat.
This time the smile turned into a grin, so she moved again. He seemed more amused. On the fourth move,
the man burst out laughing, she complained to the driver and had the man arrested.
The case came up in court. The judge asked the man (he was about 20 years old) what he had to say for
himself.
The man replied…. Well your honor, it was like this. When the lady got on the bus, I couldn’t help but notice
her condition. She sat under a sweets sign that said, “The double mint twins are coming” and I grinned.
Then, she moved and sat under a sign that said: “Logan’s liniment will reduce the swelling”, and I had to
smile.
Then she placed herself under a deodorant sign that said: “William’s big stick did the trick.” And I could hardly
contain myself.
But your honor, when she moved for the fourth time and sat under the sign that said: “Goodyear rubber
could have prevented this accident…… I just lost it……
The judge banged his gavel and said: “Case dismissed.”
A retired couple returned to a car dealership where the salesman promised to hold a car for them. But they found the
car was just sold to a beautiful blonde lady. The man was visibly upset. He spoke to the salesman sharply. “You said
you’d hold that car till we raised the $95,000 asking price, yet you closed the deal for $75,000 dollars to the young lady
there. And if I remember right, you had insisted there was no discount for this model.” The salesman took a deep
breath, cleared his throat and reached for his coffee. He said: Well what can I tell you? She had the cash ready. She
didn’t need any financial help. And sir, just look at her, how could I resist? Replied the grinning salesman sheepishly.
Just then, the young woman drove over to the couple and gave the car keys to them. She looked at them and said:
There you go, I told you I could get him to lower the price. See you later dad.
While riding my Goldwing, I swerved to avoid hitting a deer, lost control and landed in a ditch, severely banging my head. Dazed and confused I crawled out of the ditch to the edge of the road when a shiny new convertible pulled up with a very beautiful woman who asked, "Are you okay?" As I looked up, I noticed she was wearing a low cut blouse with cleavage to die for... "I'm okay, I think," I replied as I pulled myself up to the side of the car to get a closer look. She said, “Get in and I’ll take you home so I can clean and bandage that nasty scrape on your head.” "That's nice of you," I answered, “but I don't think my wife will like me doing that!” "Oh, come now, I’m a nurse," she insisted. "I need to see if you have any more scrapes and then treat them properly." Well, she was really pretty and very persuasive. Being sort of shaken and weak, I agreed, but repeated, "I'm sure my wife won't like this." We arrived at her place which was just few miles away, and after a couple of cold beers and the bandaging, I thanked her and said, "I feel a lot better, but I know my wife is going to be really upset, so I'd better go now." "Don't be silly!" she said with a smile, while unbuttoning her blouse exposing the most beautiful set of breasts I’ve ever seen. "Stay for a while. She won't know anything. By the way, where is she?" "Still in the ditch with my Goldwing, I guess."
