• Links from low quality sites

How to know Penguin hit our site ?

• If a site get increase or decrease in traffic after a specific update, it means the site is affected.

• Check “Search Queries” report in GWT to understand the status of site.

• Google Analytics can be used to monitor the search traffic graph. (Example of Analytics)

• Sudden drop in SERP positions and Visibility

Penguin hit the site ?

Recovery Process

Step 1

• Find all link sources to site using

– GWT

– Ahrefs.com

– Opensiteexplorer.org

– Majesticseo.com

• Filter only Do Follow Links – NoFollow links are not a problem for Penguin

Step 2

• Identify the spam links from downloaded links– Low quality directories

– Low quality social bookmarking

– Forums links

– Blog comments

– Article sites

– Exact keyword Anchor Texts

– Site wide links

Step 3

• If you have access to the site, remove the links manually by logging to the site.

• If site owner do not offer login, then request the site owner to remove the site

• If site owner is asking fee for removal of links, ignore the request [BlackMail Examples]

Step 4

• DisAvow Tool from Google

• Create a list of sites to DisAvow

• Login to webmaster tools to submit the Disavow file list.

Step 5

• Generate high quality links from good sources

• Monitor the back links regularly

Step 6

• Wait until next penguin update is released by Google

• In case of manual penalty and unnatural links warning in GWT tool.

• Submit site for reconsideration request.
