The pendulum IMPACT tester series are designed for the highly efficient performance of notched bar impact tests and impact bending tests according to CHARPY or IZOD. Due to the rigid
machine bodies optimized for low resonances, the unaffected impact energy is reliably available
for the test and thus enables tests to be performed in accordance with EN ISO 148, ASTM E23
and all international standards.
The machines are optimized for fast test execution on metal specimens as, for example: The motorized hammer lifting only takes approx. 3 - 9 seconds (depending on the impact energy
consumed in the previous test). The machines should be placed on a machine foundation height
> 30 cm. Due to this ergonomic positioning it is then possible to carry out up to 240 tests / hour.
Even deep-cooled samples can be placed on the support and struck within a very short time (< 5
seconds) through the large safety door. The machine is optionally equipped with a sample
centring device so that the samples can be placed safely without the use of loading tongs
(exception: frozen samples).
Innovative mechanical, ergonomic and electrical equipment details make the machines the first
choice in this category. The excellent price/performance ratio and high precision are the decisive
reasons for the steel industry, universities, and companies in the automotive and aviation sectors, service providers, research and development to trust these products.

Main advantages of the pendulum IMPACT testers
• Electronic control panel for easy setting of: Test method (Charpy /
Izod), used standard (EN, ASTM, JIS ...), nominal energy (change of
weight masses), potential / consumed energy, sample data, test
temperature, date + time
• The test results can be read out via the USB/LAN interface for further
processing in the optional WIN-IMPACT software, evaluated, printed
and archived
• The exact angular position of the trigger angle and the evaluation of
the impact energy consumed are determined by means of a high-
resolution incremental rotary encoder. The high resolution ensures
the high-precision evaluation of the absorbed energy
• The operator can easily activate the automatic hammer lift (standard
setting) in the operator menu. The hammer lift uses the residual
energy available after the previous attempt to quickly raise the
pendulum again by closing an electro-mechanical clutch at right time
• The automatic pendulum hammer lift ensures that the pendulum
hammer is ready for the next test in a few seconds
• The pendulum hammer can be manually moved to any position for
changing the weight masses, the impact fin or for calibration
• The pendulum hammer can be equipped with conventional impact
fins (Charpy, Izod, impact pulling devices) or other tools that can be
changed quickly and easily
• The machine was specially designed for absolutely hazard-free use.
Among other things, safety devices are used here that have not been
implemented by any other supplier to date (swivel safety rod). Due to
the protective housing and the electrical locking of the safety door,
simple and fast operation from the outside is possible
• 24 months warranty
• Unbeatable quality-price-ratio
• Power connection only 220 / 230 V required
• Delivery includes DAkkS calibration by SCHÜTZ + LICHT Prüftechnik
Options • 2 types of centring devices: A.) swivelling in from below B.) with extending lateral stop
• Loading tongs for handling cooled samples, with centring function (centring device may not be required)
• Deep cooling cryostat: Bath for notched bar impact bending samples down to - 90° C (special brochure)
• Stainless steel funnel plates with conveyor belt: Broken samples are directed funnel-like onto the conveyor belt
(recommended if the lateral expansion of the samples must be measured / the samples are sorted
• Side parts protective housing hinged and locked one side / both sides
• Application of the hammer fin for instrumented notched bar impact tests with special electronics / software
• Notch broaching machine for the rational insertion of the notch into a prefabricated sample 55 x 10 x 10 mm

Option: Equipment for instrumented notched bar impact test
Principle of operation In this type of impact test, the fin of the pendulum hammer is designed
as a load cell. During the test, the abruptly increasing force is recorded by means of this force measuring
device by a transient recorder (high-speed recorder) and displayed and evaluated in software as a force
/ displacement (force / time) diagram.
With successive numerical derived functions, a diagram force / displacement (force / time) as well as the
resulting work (area under the curve) and an indication of how the specimen sells (increase the
information about the test).
Software This software is a version of
the LabTest testing software that has been
reduced to the essential. It has been freed
of all unnecessary functions - but is one of
the core components of the system.
Samples The test recording is done by a
special high-speed measuring system - a
transient recorder. This recorder plots the
measured values in the instrument's
internal memory. After the test, these are
output directly to the PC software and
evaluated. The PC connection is via USB
interface.

Schematic representation of the measuring technique
Conformity to standards: UNI EN ISO 14556 (2003)
The instrumentation of the impact fin is available for both types of
available impact fins:
• ISO148 - radius 2 mm
• Type ASTM - radius 8 mm
The impact fins are for pendulum hammers with potential energy
from 150 | 300 | 450 | 750 joules available
If this system is retrofitted, a new calibration is necessary because the
mechanical components are changed: cable, photocell.
The software WIN-IMPACT and WIN-IMPACT-Instrumented can be used in
parallel, with the proviso that faults may occur occasionally.
The test curve can be exported in Excel format to perform external
calculations.
Results / Reports The system automatically evaluates all important
results according to the standard. In view of the great
variability of the deformation curves, the user was
enabled to move the evaluation algorithms / query
points to perform individual evaluations.
