Are you looking for a part-time job? Would you be interested

in a position that has summers off, and no nights, weekends or

holidays? Have you ever thought about becoming a school

bus driver?

These are great jobs for a semi-retired person, a stay at home

parent, or just someone needing a little extra money.

personnel to be substitute bus drivers.

National Elementary Honor Society

Bus Riders of the Month FriYAY Fun

Mrs. Ferrer and Mrs. Brooks

led students in a study of

Cajun culture at a recent

FriYAY enrichment. Students

got the chance to listen to a

story read with a Cajun ac-

cent, teachers taught the

students how to dance the

two-step and Cajun music

livened up the event.

Third grade students complet-

ed their Cajun Folktales Eng-

lish Language Arts unit and

celebrated their learning by

sharing traditional Louisiana

food and a second line all

around BCP. The third grade

students are continuing to

learn about Louisiana in both

ELA and Social Living through

their study of the Louisiana

Purchase.

Congratulations to Belle Chasse Prima-

ry’s newly inducted National Elemen-

tary Honor Society members. Students

nominated must have earned straight A

Honor Roll in the last two quarters of 3rd

grade and the first two quarters of 4th

grade. In addition to being scholars, stu-

dents must also show a willingness to

serve others as well as have leadership

qualities. We expect great things from

this outstanding group of students.

Native American Culture

Bandit’s Book Challenge

Thank you to members of the Yellow Moon Singers, who

represent various Native American tribes in Louisiana, for

coming to BCP to share their culture with students during

a FriYAY enrichment. Students got to hear songs in the

Kaiowa language and the rhythmic sounds of the drums

while dancing a round dance. Authentic dress and arti-

facts were also available for students to see. Thank you

to Mrs. Scheuermann for organizing this wonderful experi-

ence for our students. Among the visitors was August

Creppel, vice principal of the United Houma Nation.

The librarians are encouraging all of the students at BCP to participate

in Bandit’s Book Challenge. This is a reading program established by

Governor John Bel Edwards and his wife, Donna. Mr. and Mrs. Edwards

know that the more students read, the better they become at reading

so they are challenging students to read at home as well as at school.

The goal is for students to read at least 10 books. Mrs. Edwards will visit

BCP in February to check on our progress! Be sure to READ every day!

Reading with the Champs

BCP students had a blast hanging

out with the “champs” at Belle

Chasse High School. Students read

books, enjoyed cookies and milk

and got autographs from student

athletes representing football, base-

ball, soccer, softball, cross country,

dance, cheer and other sports.
