B. Analysis

So, yesterday, I asked you to read the poem Lines Composed A Few Miles Above Tintern Abbey by William Wordsworth. Have you read it?

Good. I also told you to search something about William Wordsworth. So what have you searched about him?

Yes Elaine?

That is right. He ushered English Romantic Movement together with Samuel Taylor Coleridge. What else can say about William Wordsworth?

Yes. Another fact about Wordsworth?

Very good. So what are the famous works of him?

Yes ma’am.

William Wordsworth is a British poet.

With the help of his two uncles, Wordsworth entered a local school and continued his studies at Cambridge University. Wordsworth made his debut as a writer in 1787, when he published a sonnet in The European Magazine.

In 1843 he succeeded Robert Southey as England's poet laureate.

What else?

Very good class. Now, let’s analyze one of his works that I gave you yesterday. I believe that you have read it already. So what can you say about Lines Composed A Few Miles Above Tintern Abbey?

Yes?

Who else wants to share their insights about the poem?

C. Analysis

Very good. Let’s take a look of some lines in the poem.

Of five long winters! and again I hear

Or of some Hermit's cave, where by his fire

Through a long absence, have not been to me

In which the affections gently lead us on

Almost suspended, we are laid asleep

Flying from something that he dreads, than one

An Evening Walk (1793) Descriptive Sketches (1793)

Lyrical Ballads (1798) Poems in Two Volumes (1807)

It has a subtle strain of religious sentiment.

It is about childhood memories of communion with natural beauty.

Ma’am, I think that the idea of the abbey is a place consecrated to the spirit.

Page 6: Peer Teaching Lesson Plan

Teacher’s Activity Students’ Activity The heart that loved her; 'tis

her privilege,

What is the pronoun in the first line?

How about the next line; please choose the pronoun.

Good. In the third line, which one is the pronoun?

In the fourth line, what is the pronoun?

And in the fifth line?

Yes, how about in the sixth line?

And in the last line?

Very good class. All the words you chose are pronouns. In you past lessons in English, what is a pronoun? Yes, Dian.

Very good. It is used to lessen the repetition of the nouns. And pronouns can function in different ways. They can be a subject and an object pronoun; direct or indirect.

The subject is WHO or WHAT the sentence is about.

For example, She is my sister.

Who is my sister?

The pronoun in the first line is I.

His ma’am.

The pronoun is me.

Us is the pronoun in the fourth line ma’am.

We.

He is the pronoun.

The pronoun in the last line is her.

A pronoun is a word that takes the place of one or more nouns.

She.

Page 7: Peer Teaching Lesson Plan

She is our subject. Another example is:

Sometimes, they act crazy.

Who act crazy?

On the other hand, object pronoun is a personal pronoun in the objective case. It is used as the direct or indirect object of a verb. Object pronouns will never be the subject of the sentence.

Direct object identifies what or who receives the action of a transitive verb.

Examples: Craig read it.

What did Craig read?

Andy will visit her.Who will Andy visit?

The dog bit him.Who did the dog bite?

Indirect object tells to whom or for whom the action of the verb is done.

Examples: Dad made him a sandwich.

For whom did Dad make a sandwich?

I am giving money to them.To whom am I giving money?

Ian bought her a flower. For whom was the flower bought?

They act crazy.

Craig read it.

Her.

Him.

For him.

I am giving money to them.

For her.
