Pediatric TraumaConference OverviewChildren’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters Pediatric Trauma Conference is a one-day accredited pediatric course designed to improve providers’ knowledge and skills related to pediatric trauma. We seek to enhance the ability of healthcare providers in our community to manage pediatric trauma cases. The conference will include various learning methodologies presented by experts in pediatric trauma.

9:05 Don’t Get Burned in the Trauma Bay: Emergent burn care Debbie Harrell, MSN, RN, NE-BC, Director of Professional Relations, Cincinnati Shriners Hospital Identify the immediate priorities of initial stabilization following a thermal injury. Describe types of burn injuries as well as the various degrees. State three complexities of burn injury and the American Burn Association referral criteria.

10:20 MCI Triage with a Focus on Pediatric Considerations David Foster, RPh, PharmD, Pharmacist for Perioperative Services and Emergency Department, Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters Recognize how the philosophy of multi-casualty incident (MCI) triage differs from that of our daily non-disaster triage. Describe the circumstances under which MCI triage may be implemented and the performance criteria to be accomplished at each stage. Review JumpSTART, SALT, and triage algorithms. Apply the JumpSTART triage algorithm to a simulated pediatric victim. Discuss psychosocial barriers to effective implementation of MCI triage for the pediatric victim.
