We’ve Gone Viral! Corona virus this. Corona virus that. Corona virus some other dang thing. Welcome to the Viral Issue of Headlamps. We know the Model T made it through the Spanish Flu and will make it through Corona. We don’t want to make light of the world’s illness or the resultant economic hardships, and when these touch our

members, be sure to pass them on for our Momen-tous Events section. On the other hand we also welcome the good news like this: From Ron and Paulette Jackson: We sure hope everybody is staying safe and hoping too that we can see you all soon. We are okay here and staying home as much as possible. Ron’s even playing Scrabble with me almost daily, lol. Cooking and cleaning has taken the place of my friends at the commu-nity center and lunches at Westys! Feeding Ron three squares a day ...oh goodness we’re both gaining weight!! We seriously miss our family and friends and hoping soon that we can visit everyone and cherish our friendships deeper than ever before. Stay safe and be well!

I’m not sure I believe that Ron is playing Scrabble. That’s why pictures are so important! (Check out the mystery picture on page 9. Send in your own! Also pictures on p. 3 from Steve S.)

Nevertheless pass on your messages, lies and all, and we will report them here, like this message from Jim Bane:

Things are w-a-a-a too quiet round here. However, I am still laughing about my 1 (ONE) horsepower model T from back in the middle ages. (I think you have the story from me last year) And I still spend time in the larger garage with my last remaining "T" , 1922 depot hack. ( once owned 7 total.) (Colorado AAA 50th anniversary car). (1922) in1972. That was my first operating car (That means I can start the dern thing) from 1970. I was Colorado AAA radio traffic reporter on 7 local stations and later Colorado AAA managing direc-tor. We loan this hack back to AAA for parades (on a large, beautiful AAA truck). My impending geezerhood is my only excuse for not being very active with our great club! Very best regards, Jim Bane.

Momentous Events: “Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep.” We weep this month at the loss of our friend,

Mel May. Featured in last month’s newslet-ter, Mel is now featured in another, much classier venue. Be sure to check out more pictures of Mel on the webpage under “Mel & Mark on the Tour 2018”

www.milehighpedalpushers.com We rejoice with Marilyn and Dave Huson. Dave had an operation on his neck for can-cer. After a long siege of radiation treatment there is no cancer detected. Dave is out every day working on a 1926 touring and Marilynn is helping. Or is it the other way around?

Thanksgiving Corner: “In everything, give thanks.”

Thanks from the newsletter “staff “to President W. (that’s Jackie W., not George W.) for all your contributions over the last two months. Also, thanks for taking part in Church of the Risen Lord’s Zoom service on 4/5, and for praying after Gerry Hibbs preached over the internet. You too can join the Sunday internet service over the internet via https://zoom.us/j/5167488997 or on your phone, 720 928 9299, meeting ID 5167488997. 10:30 am Sunday School, 11:30 am Worship Service.

(Huson Interview, Continued from The Rear End) And then we started going to lot of national tours. By then I had my center door, and we took it up to Canada to a na -tional tour, and we took it to Maine to a national tour, went down to Mississippi to a national tour, to Arizona to a na-tional tour. Oh, and California. We took it out to Sacra-mento to a national tour. About that time I opened up a shop to work on Model T's and my gosh people come bringing T's from all over, Ne-braska and Kansas and Wyoming. I worked on all of them. And a lot of them were from Colorado. A lot of them were in the Denver Model T club and they'd bring their cars out there and I'd do an overhaul on their motor and sometimes do the whole car for 'em. Had a couple guys working for me. Eventually I got tired of working on Model T's for guys and I closed the business and just kept my own Model T's. I've been selling parts now for many years. I've been buying out some big estate auctions. The last one was down in Kiowa. There was eight pickups and seven trailers. And then we didn't get everything. There's still some good stuff down there, but boy that's a long trip down there. Trip before that we went two trips way out in eastern Kansas. To a guy died, and again it was an estate auction. They insisted that we take every Model T part that was there, and boy he had a lot of 'em. Another big estate auction east of Longmont. A guy died they got all his Model T stuff and they got a semi-trailer and they loaded it to the top. You couldn't hardly get in there. You pretty much had to crawl. It was pretty hard to tell what was in there so I just bought the whole trailer load. We had six guys down there loadin', and it took us two days to get everything out of there. And I was worried on that one because you've got four motors in a pickup and a bunch of other stuff and you've go a heck of a load. Yeah I think I've had an interesting life. I really have. My dad had a '26 Roadster pickup he had when he was in High School. He had stuff written on it like, "Mama, be careful. I've got your daughter tonight." That kind of stuff. When I got drafted in the army, he had parked it on a friend's ranch and some guy bought three cars and one of them was it. I wish I still had it. ED>The one the got away. Yeah, that's the one that got away. ED>Well, you seem to have kept a few others, so I'm not

From the President

Greetings MHPP T-Gang, Hi, given the week only has 3 days now, yesterday, tomor-row and today, I choose to live for today! I pray this finds all members and families healthy safe and in the comfort of your own home. I for one love my home but miss the club and the outside world dearly. Due to the cur-rent crisis in Colorado, America and the world with Covid-19, many of this year’s planned club events have either been postponed of canceled completely. These are challenging times and many establishments we meet at have been closed by the government and group sizes are being limited. We, the board feel, in the best interest of everyone’s health and safety, we as a club, need to look at things happening, times at hand, socially distance ourselves and put our club’s activi-ties on hold until the condition of this serious virus is under control. We must all help to flatten the curve. It looks like we’ll be on lockdown as a state until the end of April mini-mum. Even then, the air will be uncertain, and people will still be wary. As our club sits in limbo, we want and need everyone to be alive, healthy and safe! It’s hard to cancel events people have worked so long and hard to pull together, but safety must come first. Therefore, moving forward the board delib-erated and made the difficult decision that April’s club events are canceled, as well as, the 2020 June 6th Swap Meet. Chuck Smith, Thank You for all the work you did to organize the swap meet this year. I look forward to working with you next year on the meet. My crystal ball’s a little cloudy right now and I can’t say what the month of May will offer us, so I ask you to stay tuned and keep smiling. We’ll do our best to keep you updated of changes they come along. SORRY Y’ALL, we will get through this stronger and wiser maybe even nicer to others!!! Now the GOOD NEWS: The www.MileHighPedalPushers.com website is active and a great way for us to stay connected with each other during this tough struggle. Pull it up, make a T-Card about Your car and post a picture. There are 2 T-cards listed on the site already. We might even be able to organize and coordinate an online swap meet. Who knows? This is a life changing event for all of us and I’m hoping our club can grow through the pains. If you need anything: potatoes, eggs, TP, beans, anything call me 720-971-6420 do not hesitate, I will be there or do my best to get it to you! Because Mother Earth hurts, I hurt for her. Prayers, Blessings, Health & Best Wishes! Regards Jackie

March Roster Calls I really enjoyed talking to members in March when I made club roster phone calls to advise that the club kickoff event had been canceled due to the devastating outbreak across the world. Some people I didn’t call because they already knew of club cancelations that were starting to happen, but many members didn’t. It was my pleasure to hear your voices and stories even if I didn’t get to personally meet all of you yet. But I know you, you’re “T” people. I especially enjoyed hearing member’s stories about their Model T’s. A few calls stood out for me. Member Norman Meyer of Conifer had a truly amazing family history story of his 1923 Coupe, Rear End newsletter worthy. We must have talked for at least 15 minutes it was wonderful and my soul was warmed after our talk. And, Wayne Russert of Castle Rock hosts an Ice Cream Social with T’s. I hope he gets his tires/wheels back soon for his 1924 Pickup, so it too can be on the road. I’d love to meet for a sundae one day. There were other conversations that made me smile and laugh and I don’t want to leave anybody out. Just know I had fun and I am proud to serve you. Remember through this crazy train ride time: Social Distanc-ing highly recommended. If you feel sick Isolate and hy-drate. Schools, Libraries and Restaurants all closed. April Club events canceled. Car Shows & Parades questiona-ble due to crowds. 2020 Model T&A Swap Meet canceled. May? Maybe! We’ll have to wait and see what we can do then! As soon as we can get together…how about just a too-tle around town in our Flivvers? The moon and sun still rise and set, the stars still twinkle and shine. Life as we’ve known it now has changed, growth and enrich-ment will be thine. Keep the faith! Jewellioppy Jackie ————————————————————————-

THE REAR END

Dave Huson Interview They took a pretty big size cancer out of my neck, right un-derneath my chin. So you had a pain in the neck, eh? Yeah, a big one. Tell me a little bit about yourself. What's your background? Well I was raised in the Sierra Nevadas in California up near some of the mining towns where when I was being raised all the big mines were still working although they eventually shut down. I don't know why they did. My first experience with a Model T was, my other was working in a Studebaker garage as a bookkeeper. And one day farmer come in, there was still a few people driving Model T's in those days, and this one farmer come in and traded his Model T in for a Studebaker, and after he drove away the owner of the Studebaker (dealership) says, "Well I can't put something like that old Model T out in the show-room or anything, anywhere to sell it. Would you like to have it?" And my mother said, "Well I'll ask my husband," which was my dad, and he said yeah he always kind of liked Model T's so he came down went into town and got it and drove it home. On weekends we'd go out to visit people and I'd ride in the back. It was a roadster pickup and mom and dad would ride in the front and I'd ride in the back. Also my grandfather was still driving a Model T roadster pickup. We used to haul all our garbage with it. Between the two model T's that's what I learned to drive. The first thing I ever drove was a Model T. About I suppose once a month we'd go out. There was lots and lots the hills were full of old abandoned mines. These shafts would go stright down, they don't go into the moun-tain like they show you in the movies and stuff. All of 'em was straight down, many feet. And probably once month I don't remember how often my daddy'd haul our house gar-bage in the back of the pickup and then he'd let me drive. Of course he went along as a passenger. He let me drive the

Model T up to where these mine holes were and we'd throw all the stuff in there and then I'd drive it back home. Shortly after that I got out of high school. My first car was a Model A and I pushed it further than I ever drove it I think. It never did run very good. I bought a motor cycle, a Harley Davidson motor cycle. And I started doing ranch work, working with cattle, and I'd had quite a bit of experience with horses before that, so they were glad to get me on board. Used to go on some long cat-tle drives. I can remember one we crossed a river on a cov-ered bridge, and it was so old and ancient that they'd only let eight cows at a time go across the bridge. They was afraid the cows would cave the bridge in. was still around where we used to live too. I don't know if any of 'em are left now. I even worked up in Oregon on a huge, huge cattle ranch. They made me work the cavvie. Each person was given two horses, and some of 'em three I think. Trouble is I had to drive the cavvie and keeping track of 30 or 40 horses was much harder than driving cattle. Then I got drafted in the army and when I got out I got mar-ried to my wife and she lived in Nebraska. And I was down along the river there, the Platte river and each one of those little tiny towns, those little farm towns used it as a garbage dump, and there was all kinds of Model T's along the river. So I decided, "Oh I think I'll see if I can't put one together. And I did. In fact I put several of them together, and gave my boy one. and I found one that was a 1912, and I still got it. I used to drive the twelve a lot, and now I use it as a mar-riage car. People get married and they hire me to drive them from the church to the reception hall. >Is that the Tourabout? Yeah, that's the tourabout. Yup, 1912 Tourabout. When I moved to Colorado I learned about this Model T club in Denver, and I joined it. By the time I joined it I was putting together a '26 roadster that I found out on the prairie in Nebraska. and the guy just gave it to me so that's what I first drove. (Continued, page 7)

Ford Scramble: Send in your T quote ([email protected]) for the Ford Scramble. Last month’s quote was by John Burroughs, one of Henry’s buddies, and recipient of a free T! “How ready it is to take to the ditch, or a tree, or a fence.” Think of all the first time drivers learn-ing on a model T (like Dave. See above)! This month we turn to an advertisement for another Ford product. Bonus point if you can name it after you complete the puzzle.
