‘PEDAL FOR A PURPOSE’

Providing the best options and opportunities for people with disability or disadvantage

Pedal for a Purpose is an exciting new fundraising event which will to take place from the 24 January – 2 February 2012

The event will see 12 riders embark on a 9 day 1,079 kilometre cycle journey along the Great Ocean Road to raise funds for Bedford’s supported accommodation and housing options projects.

The more money we raise, the bigger the projects will be!

Bedford has created a brighter future for South Australians with disability or disadvantage since 1945. To this day, empowering people with diverse needs remains our key goal.  We pride ourselves on our progressive nature and commitment to innovation. Our service offering is purposely broad to ensure that we are able to address the diverse and evolving needs of people with disability or disadvantage.  An integral part of our service is the availability of pathways between programmes and locations to ensure that each individual can choose the best options and opportunities. We provide employment and training through our furniture, hospitality, horticulture, packaging, and various regional Australian Disability Enterprises (ADE's) or in the community though CareerSystems.  In addition, life skills education is offered through our Day Options programme and key residential services in metropolitan and regional communities as well as accredited training through our registered training organisation. We provide much needed services to more than 3,700 people across the state. But more still needs to be done.  With the help of the community and key supporters such as Smallacombe, we can ensure that people with disability or disadvantage are given the opportunity to fulfill their potential and achieve their dreams.

ABOUT BEDFORD

Providing the best options and opportunities for people with disability or disadvantage

Bedford offers a range of housing options to meet the diverse needs of people with disability across South Australia.

We offer supported accommodation at Balyana, our residential centre in Clapham in addition to community based homes around the State.

Balyana is currently home to 83 people with disability and is situated in picturesque grounds in Clapham.

Balyana offers accommodation in individual rooms or in one of the eight share houses around the property. Residents are encouraged to take part in life skills training programmes including learning to cook, money management, shopping and much more.

Living independently in your own home is the goal for many people. For people with disability, it can be difficult to find a home in the first place and to live independently.  We are helping to address the need for independent, community based housing options for people with disability, through the ‘Homes for 100’ programme - a partnership between Bedford and the State Government of South Australia.

In addition to residents of Balyana, an additional 112 people are supported through Bedford community based housing options in and around Adelaide. We also offer regional housing options – in the past year we’ve completed construction of 26  new homes in Adelaide, Murray Bridge, Port Pirie and Port Lincoln, with construction due to commence shortly in Millicent.
