PUBLIShER’S LETTER:

Dear residents of Pebble Creek,

We are very excited to be publishing the Pebble Creek News newsletter. We live and work in the community and are part of several organizations here; like the New Tampa Chamber and the New Tampa Rotary. We would like to make your newsletter better in all the ways you enjoy. We welcome your resident stories, photos, information on social clubs, events, special announcements, baby arrivals, weddings, school news, boy and girl scout troop information and anything you feel is important and would like to share. There is a cover photo contest as well. If your picture is chosen we will put it on the cover. November is the perfect month to start this new venture. Remembering to give thanks for good fortune and thanks for the challenges that make us stronger. Listening is a way of being thankful. It is something you CAN do everyday not just during this month.

Listen to the sounds of life around you -

there is so much music we often miss

Listen to your kids - they speak a wisdom

lost to most adults

Listen to your friends - actually listen, not

just converse

Listen to your pets - animals

communicate with a unique style of love

Listen to those you love - show them

your love by hearing their hearts

Listen to those you don’t even like -

even they have something valuable to say

Take the time to listen and you may have

a friend for life.

Take the time to listen and you will

gather insight.

Take the time to listen and wisdom

will be yours.

Take the time to listen, it may open up

a door that has been closed for a very long

time.

Please know, that if you have suggestions, ideas, comments or concerns along the way, feel free to contact us anytime, via email or phone call.

L e t t e r f r o m t h ePresident of Pebble Creek HOA By Dan Logan At our quarterly board meetings, we have been asked to “change up” our newsletter … to make it more informative, more visually appealing and more relevant to the New Tampa community. I hope you like our new format! We have partnered with a new vendor for our newsletter. Our goal was to update the newsletter visually … and to include more local news. If you would like to submit an article, please let us know. Just remember … your article can’t endorse a business, can’t endorse a political belief, can’t be nasty towards another neighbor, etc. The board of directors has the final say on what gets published. I believe we also have the ability to highlight a homeowner on the front page. If you know of someone or something that is worthy of “front page news” … just let us know. Finally, our annual members’ meeting is on November 12th at the community center. This is a great opportunity to hear about what we accomplished this year, what we are budgeting for next year, and for you to ask questions. We hope to see you there!

complied be considerate of their neighbors, and the community, and correct the violations in the very near future so that the Board members do not continue to receive phone calls and complaint letters regarding these properties. There was a question brought to our attention as to who is responsible for the cleaning of sidewalks in our Village. As of 10/9/2012, I

was told by a representative of the county that they are responsible only for REPAIRING/REPLACING residential sidewalks. They have no funds, man power or equipment to clean residential sidewalks in the county. The Board is waiting for a letter from the county regarding this matter. Because of the time required by volunteer Board members to check out complaints, send out deed restriction violation letters and make and receive phone calls from our association members, we are looking at having a Management Company run the day to day activities of our homeowners association. One of the management companies that we are considering is the same one that manages the Pebble Creek Homeowners Association. In talking with members of the PCHOA, we find that they are satisfied with the performance of this management firm. We will keep you advised as we progress. The New Tampa Relay For Life fundraising year has officially started. The Kick-Off Party was held at Hunters Green on October 9th. A limo parked at the entrance of Hunters Green Country Club from Lightning Limo gave a clue as

TEXTING WHILE DRIVING – IT CAN WAIT

Wharton High School Students Pledge “Not to

Text and drive” For four months, Wharton High School PTSA’s Health and Safety Committee collaborated with the Florida Department of Transportation, SADD (Students

Against Destructive Decisions) and AT&T to develop a “Don’t Text and Drive” Program … a program that would enhance Wharton’s current driver’s education curriculum and truly impact the decisions our students and families make in the New Tampa community. Fast forward to September 19th... a national day proclaiming “It Can Wait – No Texting While Driving”. Wharton PTSA partnered with AT&T specifically to hold an “It Can Wait” campaign to encourage the entire Wharton community to take the pledge to never text and drive.Amal and Marcia Forbes, PTSA Health & Safety chairs emphasized the program’s goal was to save lives … the lives of not only past, present and future students but also the lives of those who visit our Wharton campus and website.

Statistics are alarming. According to the National Safety Council, more than 100,000 automobile crashes occur and individuals are injured or die because the driver was texting and driving. AT&T’s Teen Driver Survey finds that 77% of teens have seen their friends and yes, their parents text and drive. Furthermore, 97% of teens will state that texting while driving is very dangerous, yet 43% still text and drive. The Technology Lab was the epicenter of the program’s activities which ran throughout the day. At the start of each period, Stephanie Smith, AT&T/FL Director of Public Affairs spoke from the heart as she zeroed in on the program’s purpose: No text is worth causing an accident – “It Can Wait”. Over 120 students were given the opportunity to view an AT&T 10 minute documentary depicting real individuals and families affected both emotionally and physically by the tragedies of texting while driving. The reaction to the documentary was immediate. A normally interactive and very talkative student group sat motionless

with teary eyes as silence consumed the entire classroom. Surprisingly, questions asked by Elizabeth Bolstridge, Wharton’s Technology Instructor, went unanswered despite

students that are normally very vocal in expressing themselves. Afterwards, each student was allowed to practice individually or in groups driving the AT&T online computer auto simulator. With the simulator, students experienced firsthand how accidents happen in a split second when they are distracted by texting. Each student was then given the opportunity to take the pledge online as well as sign their name to the “No Texting & Driving” poster. PTSA volunteers were also busy getting the attention of hundreds of hungry students during three lunch periods. In the Wharton Cafeteria, students could view the AT&T documentary as well as receive stickers and handouts on the dangers of distracted driving. In big bold letters, all banners read “It Can Wait” and “I Pledge Not to Text and Drive”. Principal Bradley Woods was one of the first to sign the banner. Throughout each lunch period, Wharton faculty, coaches, assistant principals, guidance counselors and administrators stopped by to sign the pledge. Over 1800 students signed the pledge with all banners now prominently displayed in Wharton’s cafeteria and media center. The day ended with reflections on how outstanding our Wharton Wildcat students are: one

community comprised of truly talented, diverse, and intelligent kids. We are extremely proud that a crucial message was delivered, knowing there is still more work to be done. The day before the 19th, PTSA volunteers decorated the school with “It Can Wait-Don’t Text and Drive/Distracted Driver” banners and permanent metallic parking lot signs. Wharton’s school marquee will continue to flash reminders that the decisions we make while behind the steering wheel can be life changing.Important Final Reflection: Every 9 minutes someone in the United States is severely injured or dies from the decisions others make to be distracted while driving. The best way to help fight distracted driving is to get educated and it starts with taking the pledge. For additional information please visit the websites: http://wharton.mysdhc.org, www.itcanwait.com, www.distraction.gov and www.ghsa.org v

It all started 15 years ago when Jackie Tuozzo, owner of Charles Jewelers, started cashing in her inheritance money to buy inventory for her jewelry store. Jackie feels that one of her greatest

accomplishments has been opening a jewelry store “from scratch” and staying in business for 15 years. Jackie has built the business with her sister Jennifer Boscan . Together the women have hand-picked every piece of jewelry for the store. How does a jewelry store stay in business when gold gets to be so high priced? A big trend started about 4 years ago when women started selling their old and outdated gold to buy more updated pieces. “Women are

always going to buy jewelry,” says Jackie. “I learned that lesson when my anchor store, Publix, was closed for 8 months and my business still continued to grow.” Looking for the right jewelry brands have been the

key to their success. Lines like Simon G, Michelle Watches, Pandora, Swiss Army, Bulova, and Bellitoile are just a few of the brands that Charles Jewelers carries. Charles Jewelers offers other services to their customers as well. Once a month, a GIA appraiser is there to provide jewelry appraisal clinics for insurance purposes. Charles Jewelers also offers jewelry repair on premises, performed by a master jeweler. Free estimates

on watch repair are provided by a certified watch specialist. Another bonus is that the store offers a lay-away program. Stop by to visit

your hometown jeweler, Charles Jewelers, at 16053 Tampa Palms Boulevard West. Or call them at 813-972-4653. v
