    prayer of confession *

Let us confess our sins before God.

Generous and loving God, no good thing have you withheld from us. You lavishly pour out your blessings into our lives, and have filled us with good things. Yet, Lord, we confess that we do not always recognize your blessings because we are often striving for more than we need. And as such, we sometimes forget how much we already have, causing us to neglect to give you thanks. Forgive us we pray. Open the eyes of our hearts to see how richly you have blessed us, so we will express our gratitude to you daily.

Hear the good news: God has generously given us all we need for life, for which we are to give thanks. In the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven.

In the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven. Glory to God! Amen.

    prayer of thanksgiving

Leader: Generous and loving God, you have made all things, and you have graciously poured out yourself into all creation. The dawning of each new day, the changing of seasons, and the beauty and bounty of nature reflect your generosity and love.

People: With grateful hearts, we give you thanks.

Leader: Amidst the pain and suffering we have experienced this year, we still remember the blessings you have so richly bestowed on us. We know if it had not been for your tender mercies we would have been consumed, and if it had not been for your presence we would have lost hope.

People: With grateful hearts, we give you thanks.

    choral response John Rutter(b. 1945)

Leader: Amidst the viral pandemic that upended our lives and ravaged our nation and the world, and amidst the lives that have been lost and the countless persons who have contracted the virus, even then you have been a healing Presence to us.

People: With grateful hearts, we give you thanks.

Leader: Amidst the toll of the virus on our nation’s and the world economies, and amidst the livelihoods decimated, and the savings lost, even then, through so many people, we have experienced your goodness and your provisions.

People: With grateful hearts, we give you thanks.

Leader: Amidst the racial social upheaval our nation has experienced, and amidst the protests in cities across the country for justice reforms, and the violence that flared, yet even then, you remind us that our hope is anchored in you.

People: With grateful hearts, we give you thanks.

Leader: Amidst a polarized and contentious general election, and amidst the division and strife that seemed to be the order of the day, even then we experienced your kindness and compassion through others.

People: With grateful hearts, we give you thanks.

Leader: So as we prepare to gather with family around the table to partake of your blessings, remind us again of your love, compassion, mercy and grace. For you have been good to us, far more than we could ever be to ourselves.

People: With grateful hearts, we give you thanks.

All: Thanks be to God. Amen.

  • Response to The Word

affirmation of faith The Apostles’ CreedI believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord: who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; the third day he rose from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

ministry of musicFor the beauty of the earth John Rutter

    (b. 1945)For the beauty of the earth; for the beauty of the skies, for the love which from our birth over and around us lies: Lord of all, to thee we raise this our joyful hymn of praise. For the beauty of each hour of the day and of the night, hill and vale and tree and flower, sun and moon and stars of light. For the joy of human love, brother, sister, parent, child, friends of earth, and friends above, for all gentle thoughts and mild. For each perfect gift of thine to our race so freely given, graces human and divine, flow’rs of earth and buds of heav’n.

Love Your Neighbor | Stewardship 2021These past several months, your support of Peachtree Road has maintained the greater church’s presence in the world. You assured that there was a positive voice, a spiritual hand, and a hope that was bigger than any fear.

2021 will be a new year to bring the mission of our church to life, and bring light to the world. Your support reflects our beliefs. Let us continue to be a place of inspiration and an example of our Christian faith. “I think the church can be a place that says, ‘In the midst of this, God is with us and God will see us through.’ The church can continue to be that source of hope, that source of life to others.” Bill Britt

Today, we ask you to commit your gifts to the mission of Peachtree Road in 2021. You may make your pledge by handing in the enclosed card and envelope, by visiting prumc.org/give, or by mailing your card to the church. We know this has been a year of "the unexpected." If you would like to talk to a staff member, please don't hesitate to reach out to our clergy or business office.
