This guide will show you how to set up a PE using Win7PE, and insert TechWARU into it.

If your client has a nasty infection, their computer won’t boot, or you require an environment outside of the Host OS, a PE can most likely suit your needs. It can be somewhat challenging to create a PE containing up-to-date tools that work properly, so we’ve engineered TechWARU to work within Win7PE.

Now you can run your favorite Windows utilities without inter-ference from client specific issues. You can even upload a Win-dows executable to TechPortal and have TechWARU run it on boot, an incredibly useful feature for remoting into the system.

Requirements:

32-bit Windows 7 ISO file (mounted or extracted to host PC). Win7PEBuilder must be run on a Windows 7 or 8 computer.

Download Win7PEbuilder from:

make a folder at the root level of your drive and put the executable there (Example “C:\pe”).

Run the Win7PESE80_Builder.exe as an administrator. 2.

If you haven’t run the builder before you will prompted to download. If you have run it before, skip to step 5.

Un-check any checkboxes you see checked (usually only one by default) and check the box that says ‘w7pese.cwcodes.net’ and click the download button (it will take some time to down-load all the tools).

5. Close Win7PESE80_Builder.exe and go to the location you have stored the WinBuilder and traverse to -> Projects\Win7PESE\Apps a) make a folder called TechWARU b) make a file in that folder called TechWARU.script and in that script put the following:

5. c) Open Win7PESE80_Builder.exe and verify there is a Tech-WARU folder in the Apps section and that it is selected

Click the source button and change the source directory to point to your Windows 7 files:

You can now go through the various sections and customize the PE as you like. Here are some sections we recommend you include:

a) Components -> .Net Framework (under file copy select ‘full’)

b) Components -> Max Resolution is a program that auto adjusts the resolution for you (this doesn’t work very well with external monitors)

c) Tweaks -> Wallpaper - lets you add your own custom wallpaper.

d) Drivers -> Original display drivers (select load at startup)

e) Drivers -> Driver Integration - click the folder icons to add drivers to the location they provide. Drivers need to be unpacked from their zip files. Also select load drivers at startup.

f) VirtualTest -> this is up to you, if you want to test your PE in a virtual environment first, use this option.

Select WriteMedia and check Copy-to-USB-device8.

On the Copy-to-USB page, select your USB drive in the top left. On the top right you can select the volume name of the drive. (THIS WILL FORMAT YOUR DRIVE)

Hit the play button at the top right of the screen and let it build. (this can take a while)

Go to the USB drive you chose and you should see something like this:

Go to Programs -> TechWARU and copy TechWARU.exe into this folder.

It is recommended you Authenticate TechWARU here so you will not have to do it when in the PE. Simply run TechWARU and enter your information.

If you wish to download 3rd party tools in advance, open TechWARU and go to Options -> Tool Settings -> Update 3rd Party Apps.

If you want to have the executable you’ve uploaded to TechPortal run on boot, go to Options -> Config File and click the “Run Executable from TechPortal in PE on boot” to “True”

PE building is done! If you boot into this USB drive TechWARU will run automatically. You can always go edit the configuration of TechWARU on the drive in advance if there’s anything you’d like to do before running it in a PE.
